I reckon Clancee is a likely out and I'd give Fyfe a rest too. 6 more games for him not to get suspended in...5 would be better. Although I doubt he would have polled lately (possibly 1 today?) so it's conceivable that someone will catch him anyhow. I'd also like to see De Boer as an out, but you wouldn't think we'd make three changes to a winning side.

I doubt it. He could not play again this year and still win.

I'm sitting in a café in Paris reading these posts, didn't get to see the game unfortunately. But it really is hard to gauge the effort of the players going from the randomness in some of these these posts. That leads me to think that we played pretty well in an away game and people are trying to find changes where they don't necessarily exist. Being that I didn't get to watch the game, I won't offer any specific changes, but the beer and pastries here are nice. I'll try and find some nice alternative to custard slice to bring back for the training session watchers. Oh, I'm wearing my dockers shirt too BTW..

RTB's assessment - Effort was tres bon, method was merde.

The thing is even Ross reckons we played like shite and Richmond deserved to win so its not really contradictory that we are all happy with the win but not so thrilled about the way the team played. Ross called our transition disposal football suicide and said although the effort was good and the clearance work elite we turned the ball over and took stupid options at times.
But we keep winning.
Weller must debut next week for mine.

Regarding Ibbo, out of those 51 or so small defenders, how many of them are having to play much of the season as a tall defender?
It wouldn't surprise me to see Dawson in for a small/medium as Ibbo will revert to playing on a smaller forward, improving our intercept marking.

Against Richmond potential match ups were McPharlin on best forward in Riewoldt, then Pearce takes next in Griffiths, leaving "small" defender Ibbo on resting ruck Maric. When Dawson returns, this can revert to McPharlin on Riewoldt, Dawson on Griffiths, Pearce doing Johnsons role on Maric leaving Ibbo free to outmark a smaller player - or relieve Spurr if getting towelled up by Martin.

In relating to the GWS comments for next week, since Mumford went down they have been playing 2 young rucks in Lobb and Downie, swapping between ruck and forward - probably an ideal match up for Dawson.

In: Dawson Out: Clancee
Wishlist: Fyfe rested for Weller or another youngster

Completely OT but if you're in Paris then there is a side street somewhere near-ish to you that has a little antique toy shop, I probably couldn't find it again if I had a week in Paris but it sold me the only tourist souvenir, nick knack, dust collector type thing that I ever felt was really worth the effort of putting on my shelf.

... Oh and Pearce out.

I'm not much into souvenirs but I will be sure to find the shop with your excellent directions! Did just buy a tour de France water bottle, but I'm riding to Amsterdam and lost mine so it was a practical purchase.
Back on topic, if Ross is indeed displeased, perhaps we'll see some 'rested' players for the home game next round. I sure would like to see a new debutant like many others here.

Between now and the finals the following things would influence my thinking in team makeup;
- games into Dawson. The decision about who makes up our defense is best made with a full compliment of options available and in form.
- games into MJ.
- fitness/freshness/form of key players. From the above we should be able to schedule a game off for superMac. A game off to A Pearce and Ibbotson would be possible too. Fyfe clearly needs a game off.
- winning. At least until the last game or 2 when we may be able to control our own destiny and finish top 2, and if that is the case selection options open up.
- games in to other realistic finals personnel for us. Good to see Griffin getting a run and I want Mzungu getting some games too. Apart from the final 2 games i think it is almost too late for Weller and Blakely unless demanded by form and like for like injuries, but.....

In terms of this week, C Pearce and Fyfe could be outs, and i would rest Sandilands.

IN Dawson, Mzungu, Clarke, Weller

OUT MacPharlin, Fyfe, Sandilands, C Pearce

Four changes after a very good win is crazy talk.

I do enjoy that his press conferences repeat what most on here who are accused of being negative think. He's under no illusions that being top of the ladder makes Freo the best side (and I enjoyed his subtle dig at West Coast).

Out : Clancee, A Pearce rested, D pearce back to Peel to work on his disposal.
ins : Dawson, Weller and Grey.
Two hard nuts who will do the 1%, the side needs some muscle added.

DeBoer, Clancee in the gun.

Weller, Dawson in the mix. Peel play today so it'd be good to see who fires.

As for resting guys I'd still not go down that line until we have top 2 sewn up so maybe the last home game vs Melb or the last game vs Port we may sit a half dozen each game if all goes to plan. Sandi the only one I'd consider resting this week as the GWS key forwards are still dangerous, they're weakened in the ruck. At a pinch rest Fyfe but up to him, we do have a week to get right.

Sandi, Luke, Pav & Fyfe the likely ones who may need to sit.

We can afford to rest sandi(I suspect they have been eyeing off this week for a while given GWS ruck div)

We need to somehow give McPharlin a rest to I reckon, I'm not sure about this week (given it would mean dawson first game back) but I reckon it might have to be as we will need him the following 3 games for sure.

Clancee won't want to lose his spot, but I guess it will depend on scans... I'm leaning toward him having to miss due inj.

Mundy is critical for us, (and getting long in tooth) if I was going to rest a mid it would be him

Out: sandi, McPharlin, Pearce .c , mundy

In: Z Clarke, Dawson, Mzungu, Weller(let's see what he has)

Max 4 changes and keeping all structures intact critical, as we still need to win well

it kind of sucks that Port's season is still alive - it means that they'll be going at us hell for leather in round 23. which means that we need to keep winning to give us a chance of resting players prior to our first finals game, given that we will likely play on a Saturday in an away fixture.

the way i see it, realistically apart from the port game, the eagles game and maybe the north game (depending on which north rocks up) are danger games, and with our percentage, we really cannot drop any more than one to stay in top 2. with st. kilda always lifting and handing our asses to us against all odds regardless of where they sit on the ladder, i reckon they'll have to be really smart about player management in the back half of the season as our old stalwarts clearly need a freshen up and need to be preserved for the finals.

Poor old Clancy, if he is out for a couple (as you would think) it will be very hard for him to break back in. Timing is everything just ask Gu.
