Round 23 - Goodbye Subiaco Oval

Did anyone see the last game West Ham played at Upton Park? They put on a great tribute.

Subiaco Oval is over 100 years old and VFL/AFL footy has only been played there for the last 30 - which is why we have the Bill Walker Room, Haydn Bunton Drive etc. It's also not a venue that most people actually like. Yeah it's 100 years old but people can't wait to see the back of it.

I'd like to see something with all living WAFL premiership captains, the 1986 SOO side etc. involved.

I remember being a young fella in WCEs first few seasons, getting to the ground early to grab a spot on one of the two rows of wooden seats behind the fence, grass hill, city end. We'd kick the footy around and take hangers on the hill and on ground after the game. Many times after a goal, us 3 kids ran up next to the goal umpire to signal with him. Security just shook their head when we jumped back over the fence.
Saw a few SOOs and awesome memories of the legends of our early days. Was 5 metres away when Woosha ironed out Dermie on the goal line!! Suma kicking bags, Matera lighting it up etc etc etc
Many awesome days at Subi since, from smuggling in cheap whisky and kicking on to the pubs afterwards w a good mob and totally forgetting its Sunday night.#$@@%
Its time to move to a new home ground but I'll miss the old hallowed turf and the days that helped create a passion for the game and a small piece of who I am. Cheers Subi!!

Neither West Coast or Fremantle have signed a deal to play at the new stadium yet.

Sounds like the deal offered to both clubs was poor so both clubs have stood together on not signing.

This is great. Would also be funny if Freo take a lesser deal knowing that we'd stay in Subi for a year and try and grow their membership by paying at the stadium. Then 10 years later we roll in even more money and they struggle :P

So are we allowed to smash up the place with sledgehammers @ the end of the game? Like a souvenir to take home

Now all I can see is people pulling electric saws and shit out of their back pockets after the final siren in the calmest manner possible, cutting their seat legs off and walking out. What a memento that would be!

I dibs the main screen for my theatre room.

Funny thing was that Bunton coached Subi for four years and they recruited 3 other Victorians and they didn't do that well in those years but Bunton won three Sandovers and leading goal kicker for those years as well but when my father went to war then came back in 1946 Frank Murphy coached and they ended up third that year

Another on Bunton he was a very good cricketer also being in the NSW country side alongside Sir D Bradman , out scoring him on more than a few occasions and was thought to be a budding test cricketer should he have chosen cricket over footy

I gather that was at training or something as the players are wearing different jumpers and shorts. Great photo BTW.

What a shame all those grand moments couldn't be enjoyed %100 because your bladder was pleading & begging.
No-one looks at the urinal don'tcha know?
I dont usually drink beer at the footy, just take a bottle of water with me. So never really notice a full bladder. And if push comes to shove I will line up and go. Just rather not spend all of half time doing so.
