Round 7: Changes Vs Adelaide Crows

I don’t think Brayshaw should be dropped for form, I do think he avoids kicking and should be given an opportunity to become confident in a lower pressure environment. However if that doesn’t happen I’ll bow to the wisdom of the coaching staff, they know a bit more than I do.

One thing I liked about Cerra is he seemed a bit more assertive than I’ve seen him, know he can kick so not worried he missed a couple.

Nyhuis most intercept possessions on the ground and someone said 100% disposal efficiency - plus he was very disciplined and played hard. Should definitely stay in. The mark paid against him directly in front was rubbish, a mistake by the umpires.

Interesting developments. For the first time in probably a long time I personally can’t ‘drop’ anyone. We may need to look at structure and guys make way based on that, but that’s it.

I like the idea of Lobb as ruck, but feel we need more bang for buck there.

Possibly Darcy in, Lobb moves forward and McCarthy ‘rested’ or dropped. Would be harsh, but he was tired last night.

Blakely should be an in. No idea who pops out. Would hate to remove Switkowski or Colyer, they give us much needed speed in front half.

Cerra possibly comes out for a ‘rest’.

Blakely should come in.

I am fine with unchanged but if Blakely has to come in then Colyer can have a run for Peel.

No to Colyer out.

His work has been underrated, check out his speedy defensive work in the last quarter.

Why change the line up ?.

Is Blakey firing on all cylinders ?.

I dont know why McCarthy would be going anywhere, didnt play that well (aside from that brilliant kick to Tabs in amongst four Dogs) but he was clearly suffering from that illness. Probably been our best all round forward all year. Going no where I wouldnt think
Only 5 goals 49 disposals in four gamesafter north and some poor efforts last night, career is on the line imo so needs to be more consistant. Cox, his direct competition will be poached and go on to be a star if we dont play him, McCarthy will be delisted, and with his issues unlikely to be picked up.

Tough game coming up. Our last few appearances at AO have been disappointing. Would really like a bold showing.

As for team selection it may depend on the weather. There is a possibility of rain next Sunday in Adelaide. Would the bigger body of Blakely serve us better than say Colyer?

Anyway those saying "why change a winning team?" are probably right.

The question that needs answering honestly and without bias, is can the side be improved by the addition of any of the players available?

No “play your way in, play your way out” bullshit.
No taking into consideration that we won.
No feeling sorry for a young guy trying his best. No feeling sorry for anyone.

The tough calls need to be made.

That’s what successful clubs are able to get right.

The legend of Blakely is a better player than Connor Blakely is.

Cerra has cleaner hands, Cerra has better skills.

Blakely runs hard in a straight line and is good for a clearance when the ball comes to him in motion like that, he isn't the most reliable kick.

I think him coming in will mean we have two Concas playing.

Tucker, Cerra both use it better. Colyer runs much faster to fill space.

Blakely has size and could be a real centre bounce weapon.

Tend to agree. Blakely should really only come in for an inside mid or Conca. He’s much better than Brayshaw though so I think he gets that spot.

What about Duman? Is he a better option than Cerra?

Well we have yet to see Blakely the inside bull play midfield for some time, I wouldn't be surprised to see him play
defence, rotating with Cerra. Controlled midfield minutes.
Will Banfield find a spot? Do Freo still tag? If that doesn't prove we have changed nothing will.

We didn’t tag in 2017 from memory so no big change there imo. We only tagged last year because Banfield was best 22 and that’s was his best role apparently.

We need more midfield grunt & Blakely provides that .We're a stronger team with Blakely playing in place of Colyer imo.

That's my prediction as well. If anyone goes out for Blakely then I cant see how it wont be Cerra. He got exposed for pace playing as a defender running back to goal multiple times tonight and his kicking hasnt been great when playing in defence all year. Conca could easily go back to defence so that Blakley can play midfield as well. Im sure ill cop abuse for suggesting Cerra, but he isnt a defender and if thats the position he's playing exclusively he needs to be better at staying with his man. Anyone watching the replay can point out that Im wrong if proven untrue but my belief, but watching the game is that Im confident at least five of the Bulldogs goals were a result of a WB player getting seperation on Adam running back to goal.
Agreed. I mentioned it above that his lack of pace was a concern tonight (as a defender, doesn’t need it as an inside mid). I think playing midfield for Peel could be excellent for him to tune his craft in his natural position.

I agree = Tucker or Hughes out for Blakely. Why in hades would you drop Hogan though?!?
Why would you drop Ethan? IMO he has been one of our biggest improvers. He is becoming a tough version of Brad Sheppard.

Blakely is a significant upgrade on Brayshaw, Cerra, Hughes, Nyhuis, Conca, Colyer and Tucker in any of their respective positions. He shouldn't struggle to find a spot.

Purely because Blakely is better than him and someone needs to make room. Even Cox is unlucky not to be in the side.

Was it poor efforts or didnt get to enough contests? Slight difference but one causes the other and I'd say it wasnt poor effort but underdone from from being sick

As long as he views this as development and not punishment. A lot of these young guys were forced to play in the seniors last year because we simply had nobody else. It’s not about being ‘dropped’.

Shouldn't have been selected then. I was at the game and a few times there was no second efforts or pressure on the man with the ball, could be still sick, could be slipping back into lazy habits, mccarthy has to play like mayne cos hes no modra.

Seems we have forgotten what its like to be a good side around here.

When you have a top 10 player coming back from injury, he comes back in once deemed ready because he makes the team better

In the unfamiliar scenario where no one deserves to get dropped, someone who doesnt deserve it gets dropped.

I think this is called depth or something

Definitely for development and confidence. He should really tear up the WAFL which would be great for his confidence to play middle. I don’t think HB suits him at all

Maybe we should call it ‘rotation’. Think there’s a fear (possibly legitimate) that if players like Cerra don’t get full time games they will leave.

I’ve been a bit concerned with Ed Langdon after that recent pic with McGuire. He has seemed a bit off his game recently (for Langdon)

Wouldn’t say significant on Nyhuis or Hughes. Different types. Put Blakely on Betts. Nyhuis would do the better job.
Perhaps maybe Tucker and Conca as he’s better in the areas which they’re playing

He was arguably best on last week, he's having his best season to date (consistency wise) so I'm not sure about that. His disposal is always going to be passable at best if thats what your referring.

I dont think AB and Cerra are in much danger of getting dropped personally. In the post-game presser Ross specifically mentioned getting Cerra and AB through the middle more as an aim over the next two years and that they need to make sure Mundy isnt hindering their development should he stay on (or words to those effect).

And it always depends on where you are sitting as to what you see - Langdon had some unusual stuff ups near us last night, where I cringed, bit he may have been better on the other dude of the ground.
