B: James Frawley, Matthew Warnock, Clint Bartram
HB: Nathan Jones, Colin Garland, Luke Tapscott
C: Ricky Petterd, Jack Grimes, Colin Sylvia
HF: Jack Watts, Liam Jurrah, Addam Maric
F: Brad Green, Matthew Bate, Aaron Davey
Foll: Mark Jamar, Brent Moloney, Jack Trengove
I/C (from): Jordan Gysberts, Lynden Dunn, Joel Macdonald, Michael Newton, Austin Wonaeamirri, Neville Jetta, Rohan Bail
In: Joel Macdonald, Michael Newton, Ricky Petterd, Matthew Bate, Matthew Warnock, Addam Maric, Neville Jetta
Out: Jared Rivers (ankle), Cale Morton, Stef Martin, Jamie Bennell

Huge changes this week.

Somewhat disappointed to see Martin dropped. Might have had negligible impact last week but he was amongst our most improved. I don't think anyone picked Rivers' injury, so it would seem either Macdonald or Warnock in for him.

Juice!

EDIT: Also great to see Ricky back too

working out a bench from this is too hard for my tired brain.

but i'd go with Bail, Gysberts, Dunn, Wona (sub)

Any team with juice seems a step backwards to me.

Love it! Statement made.

I agree.

HOWEVER Jamar can ruck alone with no assistance but we would be in trouble if he got injured.

Warnock is in the 18 so will play. As are petterd, maric and bate.

My bench would be Gysberts, Juice (back up ruck I guess), Bail and Jetta as sub.

Will be interested to see how the fwd line functions.

Juice!

Said the same thing in the changes thread, not sure why.

Does this mean Juice comes in as the second ruck?

Hardly. An injury & 3 guys who are all borderline best 22/young players, i'd wait to see the full changes before making those comments, but the guys on the bench from last weeks team are mostly inexperienced & Dunn.

Happy to see some changes all the same

Bench: Bail, Gys, Dunn/Juice (one will play to go back up in the ruck) & sub: Jetta

Hopefully there will be someone up there to kick it to this week.

Martin is an interesting one. Had a poor outing against WCE but on the whole has been good - it may have come down to how he trained, perhaps someone can elaborate.

Morton is no loss and Bennell is probably due.

Won't even bother trying to guess/suggest a bench based on those names and not knowing how they all come up after training.

I thought Rivers was dropped not injured so it's not as big a statement as I initially thought. That said dropping a pick 4, precocious talent in Cale Morton is a statement.

Also fairly mystified at Martin being dropped, all signs lead to Newton getting a game this week. Normally the very thought we disgust me but he has been good in the VFL...

Yep Newton will be the second ruck, can't see Dunn, petterd and Bate in the same team, I think Dunn will be dropped, can't see Wona, Maric and Jetta all in the same team, I would go with Maric

no it wasnt... nothing has changed... 3 inexperienced kids were dropped
the exact same melbourne players who have been tried and dropped were brought in
and the same underperforming senior players get another chance at redemption SYLVIA, DAVEY, GREEN,

Sylvia isn't underperforming. Green isn't going to get dropped. Davey is the one to make an example of for mine though. Needs a big game.

This. Same weak Melbourne I have followed all my life.

The statement I suppose was Morton and Bennell. I'd be inclined to give Davey one more chance, I think he gets judged harshly. Green gets a few life's because he's captain and Sylvia, well he's Sylvia, what do you do! Martin is out because despite been improved it's worth throwing things around in an underperforming side. In a good side he'd be allowed to just trot along with ok performances most weeks. He gives nothing up forward and his defence/ruck combo isn't really working.

Here's my team:

FB: Frawley Warnock Bartram
HB: Grimes Garland Tapscott
C:Trengove Moloney Jones
HF: Sylvia Watts Bate
FF: Green Jurrah Maric
Foll: Jamar Davey Bail
Int: Newton, Gysberts, Macdonald
Sub: Petterd

Emer: Dunn, Jetta, Wonaeamiri

IN: Newton, Maric, Petterd, Bate, Macdoanld, Warnock
OUT: Martin, Wona, Bennell, Dunn, Morton, Rivers

Newton must play with Martin out. Dunn simply can't ruck against someone like Maric, Jacobs or McKernan. Maric, Petterd and Bate simply replace the underperforming trio of Wona, Bennell and Dunn. Macdonald comes in for Morton. He can play down back and Grimes and Tapscott can have some time on the wing. Rivers out is unfortunate but it gives Warnock a chance, hopefully he's up to it.

Martin out for Newton (presumably) is shithouse. If you're picking Juice because he's been kicking goals in the 2's then play him as a forward. Can only end in tragedy.
Surely he can play 60% FF and 30% Ruck? For some reason Bailey doesn't want a permanent FF to provide some structure but I'm happy Newton is in so at least for a majority of the game he or Jamar at at FF.

I'm expecting a red hot contest from Juice. I barely care if he drops every mark, turns over every kick and slots points, if he's out there competing in the ruck and giving us something deep forward then he's worth a go.

Perhaps you should've read my next post- thought Rivers was omitted. Dropping the VC would've been a statement. It would've been the wrong VC but a start.

To those who have kept a close eye on the Casey games what has Newton's standard of ruckwork been like and has he actually spent much time pinch-hitting or purely as a conventional forward?

From what I've seen, Spencer and Gawn have rucked. Newton has spent all season down forward.

Not sure what statement has been made besides shuffling the deck chairs on a sinking ship tbh. Jamar now has to ruck all day against Jacobs, Maric, McKernan! Seems like a tough ask! Would have liked to see Martin stay in the side. He's been far from our worst. Newton pinch hitting in the ruck seems pointless.

Davey is the lucky man this week. Same with Wona. Both need huge games. Hopefully if McDonald comes in, it will mean Grimes goes into the middle.

Maric muct also play in the middle this week. With Petterd and Bate back in, it's hard to see a spot for him down forward. I hope Bailey gives him and Grimes some time in the middle, as both can have an impact.

Warnock gets his chance. With Rivers out, this was a given. Been in good form and hasn't been beaten all year at Casey. Will probably match up on Tippett. Frawley will go to the dangerous Walker and Garland will probably man McKernan. I don't mind those match ups.

I like the changes, Davey is on his last legs. Really looking for the senior players to stand up this week. Intensity is the one thing i want to see from the whole group. Tackle hard, run and present for your team mates and put some real pressure on the opposition when they have it. We do those things, we will win....
