Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

It gains Gold Coast a total of 1,457 points for academy selections and values Flanders at pick 9.

Anything on top of that deal would likely have to come from the Cats.

Tbh i think every party is a little uncomfortable with that one so it's probably spot on

Honestly think everyone involved would take it because it doesn't outright benefit anyone.
That's usually a good sign that its a fair deal for all involved.

He's not the tallest ruck and is pretty mobile. In the Nankervis mould for mine.

FWIW, St Kilda have the upper hand in this trade. If Geelong want him, they will need to stump up for him.

With some magic I apportioned points against those stats and ranked the rucks.

ie weighted clearance to 80% CBA, & made a value judgement on points weighting of hitout stats

Ruckman sit and 1 and 2 in the rankings for contested marks this year (Darcy and Gawn)

Contested marks are down across the board, makes sense as it's more a possession game now where it used to be kick long to a contest.

The best players now are 2 per game (Darcy 3) back when they first started recording CM's it was approx 4 per game (Richo Loewe etc)

Presumably in the 70's it was up towards 6

Clearances aren't as good as you think, only 4 games greater than 5. Xerri is the clearance king amongst rucks with 14 games > 5.

Not that I'm keen to talk Rowan down, but the Saints are clearly moneyballing the ruck decision to recruit De Koning.

I'd say versus Nank, similar intent and movement but better skilled & less physical.

I don't think that's true simply because you wouldn't be taking that pick to the draft but using it to get other players.

That’s the thing though we really don’t desperately need your first to get deals done , Gold Coast will want our pick 7 for Flanders , aleer and Ryan will be second round picks at best so what do we actually need the pick for trade wise.

7 for Flanders is overs so expect something back if he were to choose STK. maybe an upgrade of our 43, which can then go to WCE for Ryan. Aleer won’t be any more than a 3rd rounder.

I don't understand, this sounds like a fairly reasonable trade. Geelong could possibly look at throwing in a sweetener given Rowan's contracted status, but overall probably about right.
