Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

No, Sam is happy in Geelong hence why he just re-signed. I can see the appeal for the Saints but we aren’t even sure the interest is mutual for cats and Marshall yet
That's the reason I asked. I can't see him leaving the cats but you never know now days seeing as he's won a premiership now and perhaps wanted to play with his brother. I'm sure the cats could easily fill that position.

If TDK does end up at the Saints and Marshall wanted out and to Geelong, would they offer Sam Dekoning instead a first round pick or what ever picks as a swap?

If Sam was a midfielder this suggestion might have legs, but nah this wouldn't happen. Seems pretty happy at Geelong and playing well.

He's coming off no pre-season and played injured for a few games at the start of the year. To be playing as well as he is after that indicates a pretty good player I'd say.
If you say so. I still wouldn't include him in the top 6 in the league and he isn't an A grade player to me.

Was tongue in cheek.

I think Marshall for a pick around 20 gets it done.

I think thats overs tbh in general but because I don't rate this draft i would probably give them a late 1st for marshall (assuming we finish top 4). I would still prefer we found a cheaper ruck that was decent though.

Imagine the conversation - "Sam i know we just committed to you but we're going to functionally end your career for a mid tier 30yo ruck, you understand right?"
Yeah not happening.

Also the idea players want to play with their brothers is really only a thing on bigfooty. I don't think it exists in reality.

As for Marshall. He's only 29 and a very good all round player. Struggles against the monsters at stoppage but makes up for it around the ground.
So you should get three good years out of him.

I don’t really want to give up a late first for him but I can see it happening. If we finish top 4 for example then our Pick around say 15/16 blows out to 22/23 after compo, academy bids and father/son and that sound about right. Could be a super quick deal done when Trade Period opens if both clubs come to the table right away.

Anyone who says he’s worth more than that is talking out of their ass and I love the bloke.
He’s good but he’s nearly 30 and he’s already having a down year on his standards
In saying that, he’ll still be reliable and a handy inclusion.
Rowan won’t want to play as a full time forward cause TDK coming automatically becomes top dog with that contract so I can see the appeal of a starting gig elsewhere.

Saints can add another young talent to their list through the Draft, Cats get their Ruck to finally replace Stanley, Rowan gets a shot with another team potentially in the window.
Win/win for everyone.

Yep agree with all that.

Only saints don't need to draft a young ruck at this stage given they have Dodson.

A few Saints fans on their board claim we tried to get Marshall last year, he asked St K if it was possible and they shut it down.

So maybe the groundwork has already been done - and it will be hard to not justify moving him on when they land TDK. The idea of playing Marshall as a permanent forward would land about as well as Gawn/Grundy did in the same team.

This one feels like a pretty simple win-win-win right?

Saints need a younger ruckman to suit our list profile, and one is available as a FA. Cats need a ruckman and have the perfect currency in a late-ish first rounder. Marshall gets to play the role that he is suited to in a team competing for a flag.

If nobody decides to be a dick about things (I'm looking at you, SOS), and Marshall does actually want the Cats, then this should get done day one of trade week right?

The groundwork in that sense might predate the TDK groundwork

The deal will be ticked off on day one, but they'll drag it out WWE style until the last day, all while this thread melts like crazy on both sides.

Just the AFL's way of keeping the eyeballs on them, particularly when RoMa looks like one of the few 'big names' who might potentially move clubs this year.

If Mitch Knevitt types are the last deals left, then where's the attention while we all switch over to our summer routines?

One thing that hasn’t really been mentioned forget about his trade value for a minute. Are Geelong going to be happy to take on his salary which is around 800k I think

Geelong are about to come into lots of cap space so I imagine it’s no issue there.

For all the memes, we'd genuinely have about 5 guys on more than 600k.

Holmes - 750-800k
Smith - 700-900k
Stengle - 650-750k
Stewart - 625-725k
Cam Guthrie - 750-800k

Cameron finishes the end of his big contract this year (900-1m) and he'll probably drop off a couple 100k, if not more.

Cam Guthrie's big deal that be signed off the back of an AA/BNF season ends this year, and he'll almost certainly retire/delist.

Danger's on a two year deal now, where he openly said "Just give me whatever's left over".

We'll be coming into some cap room with no real obvious people to pay now that Dempsey has been sorted, and Neale, SDK, etc are locked away.

His contact should be no issue.

Fair assumption that he's been front loaded given your immediate cap issues so he probably isn't on 800k over the next two years.

I don’t doubt you have the cap space but Geelong generally don’t like giving out big money contracts especially to ruckman where they normally go for budget types which marshal is not. I’m surprised that would be happy to pay a 29 year old ruckman 800k
