Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

Nobody said you had to. You’re making it sound like St Kilda turned the deal down because it was Geelong rather than because it wasn’t a good deal.

You also didn’t answer whether there’ll be regrets if you end up having rejected a top 10 pick for him, or what will happen if playing two rucks stifles TDK which any Carlton supporter will tell you has been the case throughout his entire career.
If you would read the sentence before the one that mentions Geelong, you would understand that is not what I am saying.

I dont care about what may happen with hypothetical future picks or trades. Marshall makes St Kilda stronger.

He has shown he can play fwd/ruck effectively and be a difference maker in that role from when he did it with Ryder. I said many times on the St Kilda board I'd rather lose Marshall for less next year then trade him without even trying the ruck pairing given it has been a difference maker for us before. TDK wont be playing the same role in the pairing as he did with Pittonet so a straight comparison of his output in a pairing wont tell the whole story. And I am well aware of how much King's output increased in those years when Marshall was lining up next to him compared to when he was the sole tall target so it's influence can extend beyond just the rucks.

Cats made the GF without Marshall, I don’t think he would make too much of a difference for them.

They offered a fair enough offer for him, which Saints had every right to knock back because he’s contracted.

St Kilda will now have two good rucks on their list with Marshall being able to push forward. It may not work but I think it’s worth a shot like they did with Ryder.

Don’t think anyone loses too much here.

No i'm not, coming directly from the our guy who actually does have club links.
He said this deal wouldn't happen too so another tick for him.
Your "guy" is wrong, why would we want two first for Marshall when a future first is all we were asking for. Geelong screwed this deal by not being serious

Impressive that you posted that with what I could assume was a face full of tears.

The Cats offered a poor deal and didn't get a good player that fits a need for you. Bad luck. You go into next year assuming you contend again, but we will have to see I guess.

The problem with that thinking is that both of our Chris Scott premierships have followed a year where we got smashed in the finals by the eventual premier and picked up very little in the offseason (and lost the best player in the league in one instance). We picked up Tyson Stengle in 2022, granted, but he was hardly expected to be an All-Australian.

The Chris Scott premierships at Geelong have been predicated by subtle tweaks in the gameplan and drastic improvement by players already on our list: you could include the likes of SDK, Miers, Z. Guthrie and Holmes in 2022 as examples of the latter.

So you think a injury plagued Stanley (36) and an aging Blicavs (35) is going to cut it in 2026. Yeah SDK can play ruck but why do that to your Full Back, normally you move your foward into that position. A la Sam Darcy.

Why do you care? You (supposedly) desperately wanted to keep him, so you should be overjoyed that the deal didn't go through, not bitchy about us not picking him up.

They seem very concerned about a grand finalists ruck division, more than talking up the TDK-Ro mega 1-2 punch and its potential finals impact. A selfless bunch are those Saints supporters, I guess.

Pretty much this. I'm sceptical that TDK and Marshall together will work out but can't fault them for trying. And to be fair to the Saints, they never said a deal for Marshall would happen. They deserve all the shit they've been getting for how they treated Aleer but they stuck true to their word with not trading Marshall. It's just that we're all so used to clubs folding and since the move seemed pretty logical no Cats or neutral fans really took their word that seriously.

And it should also be pointed out, Mackie never said a deal was going to happen, from day one he acknowledged Marshall's contract status and said it'd be hard to get a deal done but that he'd try. From our end, I think we ended up offering more than enough for someone like Marshall but from the Saints' side I can see why they'd want more than that to give him up if he's at the cheaper backend years of his contract.

How's that bitchy? I was taking to the Dogs fan about why Geelong needed another ruck. Don't need to get touchy.

I don't sew how it makes a difference

really?

What opportunity is there for St Kilda to on trade that pick if it's offered at circa 7:32 pm on the last day of the trade period?

I gave you the Saints play by play the whole way through, Mackie misread it poorly.

This crap is so boring now.
Nonstop nonsense about Mackie.

2026 draft is the last uncompromised draft before Tassie. Combine that with it being stronger and you can see why clubs didn't want to part with picks from that year.
