I agree with what you are saying, but if a player is picked up in a draft isnt it a 2 year minimum deal??

If Butcher wants out, Port will definitely do a deal. It will cost us though...

1st rounder for a 1st rounder=Lucas??

Not sure Lucas would be enough though!

Widely accepted fact that big men take longer to develop. Kreuzer is a star through his sheer determination rather than any great skill factor.

In another season or two you'll probably eat those words.

kreuzer is a football player. hampson is an athletic tall bloke trying to be a football player. i'll kindly be proven wrong and good luck too him he just doesnt have it in him. warnock is a fair amount taller yet he has grown into his body more than hampson has at the age of 23 you should be well and truely grown into your body.

He missed that goal 15 mtres out on a slight angle. That missed goal lost us the 4 points and a top 4 finish.

I was at the game and I saw it & I know how close he was to the goals.
He shouldn't have taken the kick. Eddie or Jeffy should have.

Our inaccuracy in the last qtr cost us NOT Warnock's miss.

Did you even read my post.

Fev's latest tweet: @BrendanFevola25 I'm in baldy.

One can only assume that 'baldy' is Judd and he's 'in' the Carlton Football Club.

Discuss.

We have been over this before BJ & I very much doubt baldy is the CFC.

Thread will get out of hand like several others have.

ODN specifically set up a thread for all to discuss all things Fev, but it didn't last long.

No need to take it any further.

Haha good pick up, I honestly thought the same thing :p

Purely because I remember Grigg calling Judd 'Baldy' and how
angry I was about it.

You're amazing, the loyalty act I feel is a cover up. I feel you wouldn't like any player I had a interest in us signing, that could be a target. I doubt we get him, because My team Carlton, hasn't signed a big player since Richard Pratt passing, or since Chris Judd signing. John Butcher would fit perfect in Carlton plans to be successful. Port Adelaide are lucky to be granted a AFL license. John Butcher is a Victorian, and why wouldn't he want to play in the most successful club of the Last Century. The only loyalty could be to the mighty dollar, although I would hope players would love a chance to play in a Premiership.

We have had a number of our players show loyalty to the club by re-signing with us for significantly less money than was being thrown their way by GWS and GC17. To turn around and say that the only loyalty should be to the mighty dollar would have seen us lose Murphy or Kreuzer to big dollars from GWS this year and could see us lose Yazz to them next year.

Or do you mean that players should be loyal to the almighty Carlton dollar and not to the mighty dollars being thrown around by other clubs.

I would also like to know how a 20 year old who has done 9/10 of **** all is a big name star? Chris Dawes is a big name star, Josh Kennedy is a big name star... Butcher is someone who might be a star the same way that Mitchell might be a star and Henderson might also be a star.

If we get Butcher, are people going to be getting his number on their jumpers? Are people going to sign up as members because of him? If the answers to those two questions are no... then he isnt the "big name" player that we need.

Looks like I need to work on conveying a jocular tone via the Internet :o

Agree that Butcher has been on the park just two minutes so it is fair to say dont give up decent players for potential.

What is interesting, and probably the harsh truth is that as a KPF, Butcher has shown more in two games than Henderson has in a couple of years of footy.

I know that sounds like blasphemy because Hendo is trying his guts out for our club. He is also proving his worth down back but we all know he was recruited to solve our KPF issues.

So yes, Butcher is still only potential with glimpses but it does highlight we have some serious KPP deficiencies the club nees to address.

Personally I think with have close to zero chance of landing Butcher unless there is osme persona link with the club and he specifically wants to come to Carlton. Other than that, I cant see a deal getting done at all.

But, he has shown better **upside** than both of our over hyped up boys in Hendo and Hampson.

Mate, every father/son is registered with the AFL at some point, how else would other clubs know that they had to bid for them. All it means is that we've agreed to take him as a father/son pick through the normal process, the only difference is that we had to do it earlier than normal thanks to GWS.

The normal processes still apply - if another club bids their first rounder and we don't want to use ours, he goes to them
I understand what you are all saying, but frankly we wouldn't be parading him in front of CFCTV, interviewing him, letting him use our facilities, and offering to hold guernsey numbers for him if we didn't have the intention of selecting him with a first round pick if need be.

Michael Malouf: "Welcome to the Carlton football club's newest recruit Dylan, oh and by the way - if you're nominated by someone else in the first round, you won't play here next year".

Jesus, Hendo played alright at the end of last year. Definitely has shown more than Butcher, just has less upside

Just for interests sake and based on what you have seen from both players so far. If they were both 17 next year and you were building a team, who would you pick if you could only take one?

Just interested is all.

I do believe that it was the shock losses to WCE and the doggies that actually cost us a top 4 spot, not a loss against a team that it was not likely we would win against.

And as I see things right now, we are 6 points behind the WCE so 4 points dropped against the cats still wouldnt get us into the top 4... so get your facts right.

That's not exactly right because if Simpson hadn't have kicked out on the full we would have had another 2 points.
Then again if Walker didn't kick that goal late against the Saints, we would have had 4 points less.
And, and if we didn't start slow against Hawthorn we would have had another 4 points. :thumbsu:
Yeah but, if Judd didn't have that quarter against Sydney we wouldn't have got those 4 points at the SCG. :thumbsd:

This is too hard. :(

This should be nice and easy... we win every game in a year, we finish on the top of the ladder and we win the premiership...

Anything less than winning everything is a fail and we should sakc Ratts and Swann and everyone else at the club as well as delist every spud in our side

There... that was nice and simple wasnt it :P

Surely your not comparing a champion like Judd to a very average player like Warnock. Judd wins us games. He deserves to be in the side. But we need a player like Butcher so why not trade Warnock for Butcher. Butcher is going to be a champion. Warnock has been around the club for a a couple years now and still hasn't shown that he is worth the money Carlton is paying for him.

We'd need to give a shit load of very average players to get a potential champion.

Wasn't doing that at all mate, merely pointing out your flawed and utterly ridiculous logic. :thumbsu:

Having followed Butcher in his draft year I'd say Hendo.

Butcher has always been a fantastic mark and lead. But his kicking is atrocious.

Will kick 6.2 one week and 1.7 the next. Very hit and miss at times.

Hendo is a consistent player when on song. His strengths are his work rate and clean skills. With Butcher he could rip a game apart or miss a lot of opportunities, Hendo will probably impact the result due to sheer perseverance.

Henderson will have a better career IMO

Hendo kicked 6 when?

Hale kicked 8 against Geelong a few years back.

Sometimes guys have really good games as my post above this one specified, Butcher is hit and miss, particularly with his goal-kicking

Maybe this could be a rumours thread, rather than a general discussion thread. Just a thought.

Aren't we discussing the Butcher to Carlton rumour. I say no, they say yes

Love Hendo but goal-kicking is hardly his strong point either :p
You'd be nuts to rate Hendo over Butch at the moment, and this is coming from a massive Hendo fan.
