Rutten Vs Brown

Oh no just read the main board, apparently Rutten's crap and needed three players to help him out all game.
Stop being precious, no one said he needed, they said he did.
wrt one on ones Rutten and Brown came out about even, however Brisbane were very Brown concious and that allowed Craig to go 3 Vs one more often than not, and at times even more than 3.
To say that Rutten beat Brown makes it sound as if he had the better of him on his own, and that is just not true. That however is not putting Rutten down in any way shape or form as he had a good game.

I suggest you go and read that thread again and then **** off back to the port board.

Rutten beat Brown.

Don't try to justify it any other way that to bring a great man down to try and make your insignificant team look better.

Yeah you got to love these Port people don't ya. Loved the precious comment coming from a fan base that wanted Andrew Jarman publicly lynched in Rundle Mall for having the audacity to give Nick Lower a bad rating in one game.

Just can't handle the fact Truck stitches up Tredrea every time.

Seriously, I thought Truck outbodied Brown three times in one on ones - hardly the stats of an awesome game. Every other time I saw assistance (from one of Mattner/Massie or Stevens). IMO if Brisbane's midfield had have gained the upper hand last night and delivered the ball cleanly into the forward lines, we'd have been in strife. Truck played well, but I think people over-rate him. From my observations, when OUR midfield have a great game (which clearly they did last night) and dominate the clearances, Truck looks "awesome". When the opposition mid-field dominate the clearances, he looks ordinary.

I second that, his working his away into form imo. Still think his abit off his best, hopefully he be at his prime for finals time

Show me the stats which show 'outbodies' please.

Id also like you to qualify exactly how many 'outbodies' you expect Rutten to chalk up, in order to have played an awesome game.

More than three? :p Don't need to see stats, just watch the game.

An awesome game is Peter Caven on Carey in the 98 grand final. :thumbsu:

You were the one that said Truck needed better stats to qualify for an awesome game. I was at the game. Rutten was awesome.

The same grand final where Carey had 8 scoring shots?

Crap, Rutten beat Brown hands down with them in his pocket. Ran off him, lead him to the ball, outmarked/outbodied. What else is he suppose to do, kill the clown? 50/50 indeed. GIve me a break. I thought you had footy sense.

I hope you've booked your flight to Melbourne for the last Sat of September PAF. You can almost guarantee, at the very least, a GF appearance.
Dunno about that just yet.
As you well know I have been very confident about this year from the very start but to a limit so to speak.
IMO the best sides are the Crows and WCE followed by Geelong then a bunch of others including us (have posted this many times before), however the GF is won by the team with the best luck wrt injuries and so far so good for us from that point of view. However should the Crows or WCE get their act going one of those two will win it, if not its probably out of us and Geelong.

PS I couldn't make the last one, but should we make the GF this time I will fly down for sure. :thumbsu: :)

Oh stop it. There is no need for this SA Great type inferiority crap.

Rutten was one of the Crows best last night. Brown was not one of the Lions best. It's as simple as that. Rutten runs off most forwards he marks, especially old Captain Ego. He is worth his weight to the side, both for his work down back and for the forays he makes down the ground.
What side in the competition would knock him back?
Having said that, if Brown wants to come to Adelaide to play with us, he can stay at my place.

Very, very well put. Hope you have lots of food at your place tho as I think JB would consume plenty.:D

glad you mentioned that. Caven towelling up Carey is one of the great myths of the AFC folklore.

I was at that game, Caven was awesome. We were amazed he didn't win the Norm Smith.

I didn't say Truck needed better stats at all. IMO he didn't have an awesome game. He had a good game, ably assisted by Stevens/Massie/Mattner and a very poor delivery by the Brisbane midfield. I've re-watched the whole game again... haven't changed my mind.

Jenny I was at both games mentioned above and sorry but Hart was deserving of the Norm Smith. Caven was very good (there is a certain guernsey hanging in my wardrobe from that era with a 44 on the back) but Carey did kick the Kangas out of the game.

Last night there was a lot of work Rutten did off the ball that does not show on the tv. You also don't see all the other leads/work that Brown was doing that was covered by Rutten. Trust us who were at the game - Rutten's game is not all that is shown on the tv and it was a great game by him. Will be interesting to see how the coaches rate his game in the club champion award. I think he will be fairly high up in their voting.

Delist Rutten?

LMAO.. perhaps a tad rash? ;) Look, Truck is a great defender, no doubt about it.. and he (along with Massie/Mattner/Stevens/McLeod and Torney +Bassett when fit) have developed into a formidable defencive unit for ANY club in the competition. Truck has played exceptionally well against some of the best in the business and deserved his AA selection a couple of years ago. He has, however, been struggling with an injury, and IMO, has not been the force he was in the past. Has had some almost back to his best games this year, but that has been peppered with some less than flattering outings. Last night he was good... but he wasn't awesome. Take a step back and look at the whole picture - including type of delivery to him, assistance by Massie/Mattner/Stevens etc. and you will know he had a good solid game, but certainly not his best.

Andrew Mcleod won the Norm Smith. ;) Second year running. And like you suggest with Rutten last night, it was the sheer harrassing by Caven that put Carey on the back foot. I might add here, that depending where you are at the ground, may also influence what your focus is. We were right behind the goals and had a birds eye view of Caven on Carey. So much so, we were surprised to hear Andrew's name called. Of course, once seeing the replay, we could see clearly that Andrew was BOG. Caven was a close 2nd.

Granted I don't see what you see at the game... but I can only make my judgements based on what I can see.
