Now they want us back

'City Of Kingston Mayor Topsy Petchey denied negotiations had broken down and said the Saints would be abandoning Moorabbin if they left.

She emailed Fraser this morning asking him to reconsider his decision and said the council didn't want the Saints to leave

Apparently that appeared in today's MX.

It's sad more than anything else. St Kilda have been at Moorabbin for 40 years and I would think on the whole the club have had a positive effect on the community.

As for suggestions that we move back to Juncton Oval, the very reason we moved to Moorabbin was because we were the club bringing in the money and yet it was the St Kilda Cricket Club who were reaping the rewards. Sure it was a long time ago but would things change? I do admit to liking the thought of the Saints returning to their former heartland and basing themselves in St Kilda but above all this situation is just really disappointing. Moorabbin is a place that means a lot to many people.

I hope the Saints fans who happen to live in Kingston see fit to get rid of this council...what right does a council have to dictate to a club or anyone else what should happen in regards to any planning.

The proposal, when put up for public discussion, had just 3 submissions opposing it.

Also, any other club that has a long term lease with it's respective local council arrangements has their houses in order vis-a-vis the respective leases they have.
ummmmmmm, isnt that the role of councils?

Heard on the radio their chief referring to them as a "bayside" club...thats the way they see themselves and their history...SE melb "bayside" their home.

I imagine Pot Melb would fit into that...does Casey ?.

errr yes

I reckon if you built a stadium, maybe with a capacity of around 70k, somehwere in the SE suburbs, it would relatively cheap to run and make a profit everytime you got more tahn 15k people there, and 30k ppl plus attendences would be a big financial boost, and with the marquee games you'd get maybe 65k people.
It's Sir Kenneth Luke risen from the grave!

Would a move to Port Melbourne (PM) be the end of our association with Casey? It would almost seem certain it would if the move was made. Are PM associated with any AFL club?

No, and they don't want to be.

Youngsaint, president is an honary position ie no pay. You may make good business contacts for your personal dealings but you do not get one cent of pay from the club.

As for Casey, you have to be joking, arse end of the world in an AFL sense. It would take longer to get to the recovery faclities from the G or Dome than it would from SA of NSW!

Maybe help with the costs of drop in pitches for the cricket club ?...spruce the place up under heritage guidelines ?...better facilities and the cricket club can host some bigtime matches over summer.

Its their home isnt it ?

Could there be a better and more popular choice ?
