Same old Ottens?

Things haven't changed much in the past two years.

Apparently, according to an increasingly small minority of Geeling supporters, this guy has great potential.

Be honest. Is there really any Geelong supporters who don't believe their ignorant and incompetent coach was truely conned by Richmond.

Yep, me. Although I totally agree about Thompson being ignorant and incompetent.

The reality is, Ottens has been pretty good for us. Not brilliant, not All-Australian, but certainly not crap either. If you want to criticise a Geelong ruckman start with King, and you'd have ample ammunition. For some reason Ottens attracts scrutiny and slander from other supporters and the media that I've never understood. It's as if everyone expected him to be a superstar after 2001, and are personally outraged he's turned into a good player instead of a great one. He played every single game last year and was easily our best ruckman - as well as being our only marking forward of any note. That's not an irrational outburst - I freely bag Geelong where I see fit and I don't dislike Richmond at all. Being good and solid doesn't make news though, so I guess that's half the reason scum like Sheahan create the (false) headlines they do.

He'll have another good year in 2007. You won't read that in any news report however.

Brad Ottens is a ruckman first and foremost and not a forward. He'll do a small job forward and on occasion might do better than expected but it's in the ruck where he dominates week in week out. Unfortunately Geelong have King as their no.1 ruckman and this is to Ottens detriment.

I reckon King and Ottens will have a big year for the Cats and the football world will continue to say 'MeyerpattiWHO'?

Get on.

Exactly!

Insightful post SurreyBlue. The Geelong football department seem to refuse to accept this.

I'd say there's more pressure on your mob than richmond. After all, you are a couple of years ahead of us in development aren't you?

There the words of your coach. It's funny you lot always banging on about dog fans getting over the loss of Brown yet you continually waffle on about ottens. Pot calling the kettle one would say?

100% spot on, I'm glad somebody else has spotted this too. The problem is that we have faith in King to return to decent form, and if he can, he and Ottens could make an awesome ruck duo, probably the best in the league. If King can't, Ottens will be forced to shoulder the ruck load again, and take alot of responsibility in the forward line.

But that's the point. Ottens should be shouldering the ruck load. He is not a full forward. It is a folly to be planning to play him primarily as one.

Unfortunately he is the best full foward we have. 25 goals is servicable considering 2/3rds of his time on the feild is in the ruck. If King is doing well in the ruck I see no reason not to put Ottens in Full Forward.

Really who would play their best football at Richmond. Miserable place really, unless it was 25 years ago. Bet he is thankful he is out of the place over his injuries and hopefully has a good year.

Ottens is going to have a killa year this year.....his first full preaseason training in years.....Richmond supporters are going to really get peed off by seasons end .....which is totally cool.

Yeah yeah, we hear the same ******** every year.

Anyone who believes that crap that comes out about their club in preseason like *player A is having a killer pre-season and is going to have a ripper year* or *player N has put on 4 kgs in muscle without losing any speed and will be impossible to match up on this season*.

I don't think fans realize that EVERY team is doing a pre-season.

One of the most frustrating players for ages.

Its as tho he enjoys playing at 60% of what he's capable of....did the same again last yr....whether its ruck or forward he just seems to cruise thru games....there's no mongrel in him.

Could even be a 80-100 a yr full forward...IFFFF IFFF IFF IF...and we'll be saying the same thing in 2010.

Put him on a diet of raw meat and cheap hookers and MAKE him earn his $.

I wasnt a big Ottens fan when he was first traded here but I am happy with what he has done so far. as most of us are. but I have seen a lot of training and the practice games so far this year and there seems to be something different there with him. Dont know for sure but I think its going to be big for him this year

Totally agree. He has not produced much to date BUT watching the practice matches, he has been a standout. I am excited about this year for Otto.

Hope KK doesn't cause too many Tigers heart attacks! He sure gave me stress!

Ottens certainly has ability, whether he can produce his early form with the Tigers we will have to wait & see. I was always a fan of his, yet I was dissapointed when he wanted to move on. Now he his just another player playing for someone else, if the Cats ever see the best of him he will be very hard to match up.
As for KK, the tigers didn't pay anything for him, so if he fails we haven't lost anything. Unlike when he was playing at the Cattery he was always looked at as a main target, yet if he can kick 30-40 goals as a 3rd forward, I will be more than happy. Certainly wont have the main backman playing on him, whick makes him a more dangerous player imo.

Kingsley was a good pickup. I am a bit baffled as to why no other team traded for him. 30-40 is on the lower end of what he will kick. I think more like 40-50.
