The SANFL Mini Draft will take part at 9am tomorrow. The order is as follows (I'll update this post tomorrow):

1. West- Brad Moran
2. South- Andy Otten
3. Norwood- Taylor Walker
4. Port- Matthew Lobbe
5. Sturt- Mitchell Farmer
6. Glenelg- Edward Curnow
7. Woodville- Jarrhan Jacky
8. North- Tony Armstrong
9. Central- Daniel Boyle
10. West- Patrick Dangerfield
11. South- Myke Cook
12. Norwood- Aaron Kite

WALKER! :D

:D Cheers Drummond

I look forward to constant lols as gun number 1 racks up a superb scintillating 4 possession game
Quality > quantity. ;)

I wonder what approach clubs will take with Dangerfield. He’ll be unavailable next season, except for maybe a few reserves games here and there, so I don’t see many teams taking the gamble. I suspect the Crows will try to fast track his progress in 2009 so all up I see him playing very little local football. He really could go anywhere in the draft, and I can definitely see him falling to pick 12.

I am surprised he is even on the list. I would like him to go to Port Magpies :)

Take in to account i'm not sure on what all of the clubs need.
1. West - Taylor Walker - Wests need some KPP's and Taylor would probably fit into the SANFL well plus will not be called up to the Crows for a while
2. South - Brad Moran - Probably the best player in the draft.
3. Norwood - Matthew Lobbe - Can play ruck and up forward. Handy for any SANFL club.
4. Port - Mitchell Farmer - Good replacement for Levi Greenwood. Should play lots of SANFL next year and will be suited to the style. Could go at pick 3.
5. Sturt - Jarrhan Jacky - Imo he'd be the best available at this pick
6. Glenelg - Tony Armstrong - Ditto above
From here on you could throw a blanket over them, my stabs are:
7. Woodville - Daniel Boyle - His body is ready for sanfl more so than the rest.
8. North - Andy Otten - Versatile player, he'd be the best available
9. Central - Myke Cook - No real reason
10. West - Aaron Kite - Ditto above
11. South - Patrick Dangerfield - Could suprise and go earlier, the teams that have two picks wouldn't mind him even though he won't play this year.
12. Norwood - Edward Curnow - Don't think there will be much interest. You'd feel sorry for the bloke if it turned out like this though.

There are my official stabs in the dark that mean nothing unless I get them right.

I'll have a stab at it...

1. West, Brad Moran
2. South, Jarrhan Jacky
3. Norwood, Andy Otten
4. Port, Mitchel farmer
5. Sturt, Taylor Walker
6. Glenelg, Matthew Lobbe
7. Woodville, Tony Armstrong
8. North, Aaron Kite
9. Central, Patrick Dangerfield
10. West, Ed Curnow
11. South, Myke Cook
12, Norwood, Daniel Boyle

Moran is another one who could go anywhere. To state the obvious he’s ready to play SANFL and will make an impact with whatever team that drafts him. However clubs don’t want to be doing what Norwood did last year and take a player who won’t see any time with their club. IMO Moran will play a lot of local footy and therefore would be a good pick for anyone; I’m just not sure if he’s what Norwood need. We actually do need a tall defender but I’m just not sold on him in this position and I feel our best move would be to draft a midfielder.

I think you’re being too harsh on Otten. I think he’ll be snapped up pretty early and I don’t see him lasting till pick 8. Central said they are looking to take a midfielder but as they pick late their options will be limited. They aren’t exactly the best club for a young SANFL player, especially one from interstate, so I actually wouldn’t mind Dangerfield going to the Dogs as he will rarely be available for them.

Just a reminder that the minidraft is like opposite land. If you're a rookie you should be more likely to go early because a) you're definitely playing most of the year in the SANFL and b) you're probably going to be delisted, and a lot of delisted guys stay at their SANFL club.

There aren't really many geniune midfielders though. Most of the sanfl ready players such as Jacky, Farmer and Armstrong are more forwards/defenders that can pinch hit in the middle. I was actually going to add that Norwood may not need Moran though I did mention that Farmer could be a big chance to go there.

Out of curiosity Drummond, where do you see Cockshell playing next year? I assume he'll get more time in the ruck but with the signing of Doyle, i'm not that sure anymore.

Adrian Bonaddio. :o Westies are still regretting that one.

But you’re right, it’s pretty tough to predict. Who knows what SANFL clubs are looking for? Rookies have the advantage of playing all year without going in and out of the side, but you’re not likely to get more than 12 months service from them. Some stay, like Ezard, but most will go home.

Tough one! In 2006 Cockshell played very well as a key forward but he was atrocious there this season. I actually thought he showed some better signs playing in defence, but shortly after he was shifted to the ruck where he played some great footy. He’s more of a crash and bash ruckman as opposed to one who maximises their leap. With the signing of Doyle and assuming Tyrell stays put, I don’t see too much room for Cockshell in the ruck. I think to stay in the side he’s going to have to once again make himself a force in the forward line.

Here is my attempt.

1. West. Brad Moran
Best ready made IMO.

2. South. Matthew Lobbe
Every team needs good talls and South need all the help they can get.

3. Norwood. Andy Otten
Good skills, got some height and can play in various roles.

4. Port Adelaide. Mitch Farmer
As somebody else mentioned he would be a gould Levi Greenwood replacement. Good solid player who will suit port.

5. Sturt. Jarrhan Jacky
Can crumb and zoom around the feet of Chambers

6. Glenelg. Taylor Walker.
A goalkicker with flair, and these are one of the hardest things to find.

7. WWT. Tony Armstrong
Running Defender with speed, and next best selection.

8. North. Daniel Boyle
Ready to play and thats how Jars like them.

9. Central. Edward Curnow
Tough inside mid and should suit the doggies.
Also wears a padded helmet which will assist him for all the dirty fights centrals start.

10. West Adelaide. Myke Cook.
Probably will spend a bit of time in the reserves as I dont think he will be ready to play against bigger bodies just yet. That is why he will go this low

11. South Adelaide. Aaron Kite
As above

12.Norwood. Patrick Dangerfield
Why would he go earlier? He wont be here for a year and after that he will probably play AFL.

I can still see him playing a lot in the ruck, we have lost Nicholas there are doubts as to whether Hugh Minson is staying or not, Tyrell is coming back from a broken leg which is never easy so I can definitely see him playing in ruck. Vlatko's the main target up forward and Adam never seems to quite know where to run to when playing up there with Jamie.

I can see us taking Moran, we have lost McGuiness in the off season our CHB and Moran could come in and fill that role straight away but knowing our muppet coach (sorry Drum I got no faith in him anymore) we will waste our picks somehow.

I think most, if not all of the talls will go first up.

I also think Dangerfield might surprise and someone in the top 3 or 4 might pick him. But you never know what might happen with him. He might be one of those players that steps up immediately to AFL footy next year and the SANFL club never sees him. Or he could take 1-2 years of development.

I had also heard that he wanted to go there, but most of us crows supporters are going - noooooooo.

Hmm Jacky and Petrenko working in tandem in the eagles forward line - looking forward to seeing that!

Honestly, in the interest of actually developing some AFL quality footballers, Norwood shouldn't be allowed to participate in this.

A comment from an AFL follower who wouldn't know.

Hello!!!! Massie, Thomas, Lower, Campbell. Massie has been a pretty consitent player at the top level and the latter 3 will all play for their AFL club next season.

Very interesting, definately thought Moran would go 1. Happy that Curnow is going to the bays, I hope he can follow the likes of richard Douglas, learn a thing or 2 off of Bodey and also practice hitting the chest of Sellar so we can see this for many years to come. Will be interesting to see how Gallman and Armstrong mix at north, both seem the same sort of players half back flankers and good athletes, interesting to see how Jars uses them considering McIntyre is still in the mix there. Looking forward to seeing a Petrenko Jacky double playing for the Eagles next year and I like the fact otten was picked so high, means south rated him pretty well. Also, I dont think this draft covers Central's losses in Obst, Grima and....the other one slips me, that will hurt them this season, lucky for them callinan didnt go and the gowans stayed for one more otherwise it wouldve got very interesting.

I am looking forward to seeing all these boys running around in local footy next year and seeing all the crows boys in the best players in the sunday mail each week!!
