In terms of raw numbers, those are some impressive stats, CG :thumbsu: 26 disposals for Young stands out too.

Thanks for the reports everyone!

We have to move Stevens on at the end of this season - could you imagine having to wait until 2012 for Young and Davis to get regular opportunities in our backline!? Then there's Talia and that Otten bloke too...

I dont think you would have to get rid of Stevens but keep him as a back up, especially losing the big 4 this year already.

But you are right next year we have to play Davis. Then if we dont play Young that would be 3 years with no contribution, would we keep him? Especially if Talia has a good year.

With so many defensive options, Otten has to be tried in the midfield. If he can replicate his form in the midfield just think how much stronger our side will be, especially the midfield.

I think the reports on Armstrong and Davis are very kind. armstrong didn't get a kick all day that wasn't a backwards pass to him. 20 kicks 11 marks flatters incredibly. If Puopolo isn't a superior small defender......

Davis was just ok. Dropped a couple of marks, didn't do much. just can't see what is being gained by playing him in an ordinary side that is barely trying and is disorganised. He is the kind of player that looks better with good players around him. At the moment playing for North is just affecting his confidence and the momentum of the season he was building and what is the gain?

BTW in the Mattner Symes M motlop trade I'd rate the players as Mattner> symes >Everyone else in the world >M Motlop

Not saying that we need to play Otten in defence, but I'd rather see him as backup than keep Stevens. i.e. our first choice defence is Rutten/Bock/Davis with Young as first backup. Then if required, Otten can play as third tall defender or Talia gets his chance. Would really like us to back in our young talent and move on from the serviceable types.

Mckernan kicked 4, missed from about 25 out in the last so should have had 5 really. Basically played full forward all day. Did not venture out to often and did not play in the ruck at all. Took one or 2 strong grabs and a few on the lead.

The way the crows have treated him this year has been poor.
Cant believe he hasnt been given an oppty this season.
Hopefully he doesnt leave.

Young had 7 kicks, 8 handballs, 5 marks and 2 tackles. He stood Motlop virtually all day and kept him to five possessions to 3/4. In the fourth he kicked one against Georgiou and then one against Young. So Young kept him to one goal and only about 8 touches, good stuff. Motlop seemed determined to push up the ground today, so Youngy found himself around a lot of stoppages and I must say, his work around the packs was a nice surprise. Showed off some strength and quick hands. Another extremely solid game.

Davis was decent, nothing out of the ordinary but playing in a side that is so dysfunctional is difficult, and his confidence must be shattered after the highs of playing so well in the SANFL to only be back playing in a poor side. He was resonable today, some nice use of the ball coming out of defence.

Armstrong started really well and his disposal was good, but I don't think he won a contested possession all day.

Wright was okay, some sharp work in close but for mine not enough hurt factor on his disposals.

Be interesting to see what we do with Wright.

I agree with the moving on of Stevens, Young/Talia coming through and both could be serviceable to begin with.

After the Port game i'm not a big fan of Armstrong besides his disposal, he needs to go in when its his turn, a non-negotiable of footy. Still has time.

I heard Sellar was good any stats?

Not to mention Luke Thompson, Sellar and Smack! Bye bye Stevo. If you are wise you would have saved and invested well. Your career went way beyond the wildest expectations of most. Be thankful and gracious in moving on! Perhaps even initiate it yourself!

To be fair, to my recollection this is only his second good SANFL match for the year.

Barring illness last week, I think he's had a pretty reasonable past 3-4 games, seemingly getting better and better each game, but certainly before that he hadn't really shown enough to really warrant selection.

Yeah, Sellar/Smack can play there but aren't exactly proven defenders. But Thompson is one that certainly sneaks under the radar, is doing some very nice stuff.

Would be very disappointed if we keep Stevens with all of these guys in line for a call up.

Like it or not, Stevens and Doughty will both definitely be on our list in 2011.

I can understand all the hate mail for Stevens, who has a tendency to be the clanger king in the backline when not permitted to run free as the extra man in defence.

I don't understand the hate for Doughty, who has been very good for most of the season - particularly once the team rediscovered its attacking flair during the mid-season revival. He's always been solid in defence, lowering his colours only once all season (vs Gray in the first showdown). Offensively, he's been good since the revival started - and unlike some of our other players he hasn't gone back into his shell in the last fortnight.

I would very much like to see Stevens relegated to "depth player" status. Whether or not this actually happens depends on what happens with the development of our younger defenders over the offseason. Right now he's gaining selection ahead of Davis - and I can't honestly say that I disagree with that decision on the basis of form. Development is another issue, but on form, Stevens is the better player right now and that's why he gets selected each week.

Yeah, while I was annoyed with him earlier in the year, Doughty's issues at the time mirrored that of the team. I've got no problem with him playing on, we need his experience and unless Armstrong or Petrenko really come on, we're short on that sort of player.

However, I'm not a fan of the idea of keeping Stevens on as a depth player when there's so many options for his position. I hope we've learned from the McGregor situation that this is a crap idea. I'm sure that Stevens has some sort of trade value for the Suns - AFL ready key defenders don't grow on trees.

Big wraps for Smith and Grieger from Eagles defence in the AdelaideNow write up, anyone care to comment on these guys?? Smith is a youngster but no idea about Grieger. We need some options for Doughty and Johncock outside of simply slotting Petrenko and Armstrong on the list

Stevens' performances of late have not been anywhere near as bad as McGregor's were in the last 24 months of his AFL career.

McK has played 8-10 top quality games this season for a crap team like South.
Hendo and Gunston havent played as many good games and they are part of a gun team like central, yet were given oppts by the crows.

I'd really like to see Mckernan brought in for the last 3 games but I doubt it will happen and besides you get the feeling Sellar would be the next ruckman to come into the side. Still cant believe Maric and Griffin have both held their spots for this week. I can understand one still playing but definately not both. Sure Mckernans form has been inconsistant at times but some players play better at a higher level and in Mckernans case at least he would be playing in better side. If you have a look at Mckernans past 5 weeks apart from last week he hasnt been too bad.

True, but Stevens has a much easier job to do than Kenny did towards the end of his career.

I'd say develop Sellar as either a key defender or forward, because he's not good enough in the ruck. He was outrucked by Ryan Willits, who got 25 hitouts as our only ruckman, and he's only rucking really his fifth full game. Didn't see much of Sellar due to the fact I spent most of the second half in disbelief at how bad we were, but from what I saw he looked alright.

Grieger is a fullback / centre halfback. Played for West Adelaide for a few years hard at it,loved spoiling more than marking and had a pretty awkward kicking action.
Heard he fell out with Andrew Collins and went back to the Mallee before Godden got him back to play with the Eagles. Around 25-26 years of age I guess.
Honest trier but truly can't see him playing AFL definitely not polished enough with his disposal.

So you didn't see much of Sellar, but you saw enough to say he was out rucked by Willits? Was not Cranston Glenelgs #1 ruck and considering he won 30 hitouts and was awarded BOG by the SMail, I'd suggest he received much of the game time as a ruckman, with Sellar working as a 2nd ruck, swapping from the forward line. So as your only ruckman, Willits would have gained his 25 hitouts over the entire game against both Cranston and Sellar, right?
