The LNP have no standards, no shame, no memory. They are a the political abyss. Hence, the current and sure to be ongoing vicious scare campaign. They want people to forget, or be distracted by how awful they they are. Or at very least, give the swinging voter the impression that Labor is just as bad as they are. Conflate and confuse - it's really all they've got. Greg Hunt - an unmitigated failure as Health Minister - failed to order enough vaccines and costs the country billions in unnecessary lockdowns - hopes people will just forget and he'll be vindicated if the LNP is re-elected (even though the coward is retiring to spend more time with a family who likely cant stand him).

If the LNP are re-elected, Australia will have endorsed the worst government in its history.

It's an ongoing source of shame. I'll be relieved, not celebratory if the LNP lose.

Add the LNP (LCP) in the 1960s disgracefully sending conscripts to a war that was already lost/unwinnable. The result was 200 conscripts dead for nothing!

Because Murdoch (and a lot of non Murdoch) media have been on a multi decade project to make the term "left wing" mean "pure evil". Notice how they never really call themselves right wing or conservative, but always position themselves in the centre (silent majority). So anyone to their left is a far left communist.

ALP have some blame here too. They should've stood up and embraced the term "socialist" and done a better job pointing out the benefits of what progressive Labor governments have done. But like the US Democrats they're being dragged to the right by their abject fear of being labelled left wing. Weakness to combat the rabid right has caused permanent harm.

Howard is basically Australia's Leonid Brezhnev.

His legacy is mostly one of stagnation and decay despite his longevity, but he looks great next to at least three of the leaders who've followed in his wake, just as Brezhnev looked great next to any of his successors besides maybe Gorbachev (who is reviled in Russia, anyway).

The problem is that many LNP partisans still seem to think they're voting for him.
