Basically tried to say "religions were tried and tested" while "cults were made up by man"; well pretty much all religions came about by one person saying "god told me that this is the right way to do things"
Not to make too long a point of it but religion outside of any existence of a deity being tried and tested is accurate, populations only take it on when it offers a value over what they already have - obvious caveats about pain of death - and where those existing have had to adapt to suit the competition.

The religion is separate from the belief the longer it goes on, if you consider the foundation belief structure as the true version then what we have today is nothing like it - in any group, even Amish.

The religion had to bend and flex as it went from cult to religion. You don't need to afford any extra value to the word religion over cult.

Long story short: religion is a cult that offered enough to the people to be heard then was able to morph itself to suit their needs

No...Religion is a personal & private thing that needs to be kept out of politics & the civic sphere.....The separation of church & state enacted in the public forum.

What Scomo did by preaching his faith & his religion, as paramount immediately upon his selection, was to put it front & centre as a topic of public discourse & debate......The bloke is a straight-up moron.....Which is just how Ruprect likes em to be.

I was talking about religion compared to cult.

Not this 'I don't care as long as they keep it behind closed doors' conversation you are.

But now we are here, I don't mind talking about religion from a politician if it is reinforcing their moral foundation, really telling you what they believe defines their code of life. They have to be able to back that up through action though. Codifying something builds the gallows for you if you break it. So I like having people define their own standard and religion is the easiest one.

You have the truth of it. If Morrison's church even had a tiny bit of decency, principles, faith etc, they would cast out Morrison, just like how the Catholic church would excommunicate organisations like Planned Parenthood (but not people who molest little children).

Interestingly a friend of mine was at a funeral on Friday where his parents were part of the congregation. The pastor announced during the funeral ceremony that Scott Morrison was the new PM and there was applause and cheers throughout the congregation. Crazy stuff.

He's a fundy Pentecostal whack-job for crying out loud....It's the modern-day equivalent to a 17th(C) enthusiastic sect...Frauds, in other words.

What is the "moral foundation of religion?"
How does religion define ones "code of life?"

It's whatever they claim makes their morality superior, especially as it's god given.

You'll have to ask them. I'm not a believer in god required morality, but they are. The goodness of my heart alone powers my kindness, which gives me an animal out because my action is natural - I can claw out eyes and it's just as natural. Religions like to bring down a blanket of morality from god to do the same but if they break it then it's breaking an actual law.

I've always wanted to do this experiment to test their "morals" and "codes"

It goes like this:
Lets open the Bible to any page
The Religious person does everything exactly as they are told to do on that page
I sit back and do none of the things described on the page
Then we see who goes to Jail first

How to sell off Jesus (again) in three easy steps...

Religions should be treated the same as cults. No special tax breaks. They tried to define what was a religion and what was a cult on Jon Faine yesterday - got very muddled and inconclusive. Basically tried to say "religions were tried and tested" while "cults were made up by man"; well pretty much all religions came about by one person saying "god told me that this is the right way to do things"
Religions have a deeper synthesis than that.

It would also be interesting to see an Economic Analysis of Jesus. How much value does something have when it gets sold off continually or has It's values attached to a nefarious paradigm? Surely Jesus would be trading at 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 Zimbabwean cents and people could still short on this and make a profit. Once a religious figurehead (like Jesus) has been dicked off for a political purpose, should the figurehead of the religion have to be discarded when a different ruling class comes to power? Or can they just create a new church - Son of Hillsong - and hope no one noticed?

The Catholic Church don't seem short of a quid.

It's a pretty old photo. When did he say he started wearing the pin?
A conveniently nebulous amount of time ago. He also technically didn't say he wears it everyday, although I can only assume he is not on the side of the Australian people due to forgetfulness on the days he doesn't wear it.

"I've been wearing this now for many, many years. I can't remember when I started doing this.

"The reason I wear it is because it reminds me every single day whose side I'm on.

Scummo out playing footy this morning with the kiddies, what a great Aussie bloke. :poo:
To paraphrase Chris Rock: "You know the worst thing about politicians? Politicians always want credit for some shit they supposed to do. A politicians will brag about some shit a normal man just does. A politicians will say some shit like, "I take care of my kids." You're supposed to, you dumb mother****er!"

Apologies, when I stated "value", I was thinking of Jesus as mor... (bwah ha ha ha ha), as mora... (bwah ha ha ha ha), Jesus as morals and principles (bwah ha ha ha ha) - oh lordy, that is so funny! If we could economically measure the value of Jesus in this way (with all the associated baggage over the millennia), what is left with regards to His "value"?

Rather than how much munny people can still get out of Jesus dicking Him off to the plebs. As long as there are plebs around there will be many many munny to make off Jesus - no argument there.

interesting to note that ScumMo took over the social services portfolio in 2014 and changed the rules so people dying have difficulty getting the disability pension. So glad he is on our side and such a good Christian :poo: :shoutyoldman:

Surprised he did not have them all visit a divine healer. Along with Abbott's chaplaincy program in schools, we could have divine healers at hospitals.

From personal experience I was under the impression most other Christians didn't really like Pentecostals or Hillsong (eg. article below) so I'm not sure how far this spin will get them.

I think most "Christians" in Australia like their church much the same as their old Holden Torana. Taken out for a wash and a drive on Sundays, but safely locked up in the back shed during the week.

Your Hillsong types do get a bit of a raised eyebrow from the rest.
