As Morrison calibrated his frontbench, names who made the cut included Greg Hunt, Alan Tudge, Michael Keenan, Steve Ciobo and Angus Taylor. All of whom lied to parliament and declared they supported Turnbull a day after voting against him in a spill and a day before voting against the then PM again. They all wanted Dutton, not Morrison

Refugee advocates weigh potential legal challenge to Dutton decisions
27 August 2018 — 12:01am
Refugee lawyers and activists have been galvanised by the cloud hanging over Peter Dutton's eligibility to sit in Parliament, with a potential High Court challenge looming that could see thousands of asylum seeker decisions overturned.
Fairfax Media can reveal that human rights lawyers have been poring over the Solicitor-General advice last week that left open the possibility that Mr Dutton may be ineligible under section 44 of the Constitution.

As much as I'm enjoying this thread being a Dream Diary by the anti-immigrant types who love lurking on the internet, don't us voters have to accept some responsibility for the turnover in leaders? The key thing, no matter how justified by Labor's infighting in 2013, was Tony Abbott having a small bit of success:
The Murdoch media, for whatever reason, is obsessed with keeping anti-immigration topics bubbling along as somehow being important. If we ignore them, and their talking heads (and their so-called 'silent majority' who are forever being not-a-bit silent online or on talk-back radio), then politicians won't feel as under pressure from those people. One Nation gets a few more votes, Dutton loses his seat. It's not as big a deal as a major party, the LNP, being a friggin' mess.
- 2007: Howard loses. Rudd takes over. Labor deals with the GFC well. Nothing major to complain about yet.
- Nelson is ineffectual and Turnbull takes over the Libs. He also turns out to be not-so-great, but the key thing is that hard-right Liberals types don't believe in Climate Change (or are receiving heaps of coal lobbyist favours) and so they vote in Abbott by one vote.
- Abbott is a non-stop negativity machine, especially about Climate Change, and Labor get spooked.
- Gillard removes Rudd due to a bad poll and because he's apparently a prick to work with (most people, including Labor, say this was an error in hindsight)
- Then Gillard was removed because polling is against her ('saving the furniture'), even though the alternative, Abbott, was inept.
- Abbott is removed because he was inept, and polling was against him. Turnbull promises to be a consensus leader due to the Climate Change stuff killing him last time around.
- MT can't do anything coz he's not-so-great, and a hard right minority and their conservative media pals, somehow still based around Abbott, won't let him.
- Now we have Morrison, and already the anti-immigrant types ITT are demanding their preferred policy. Abbott and his will surely do the same, right?
Sure, when I'm at the school gates, I can't get out without one of the mums or dads banging on about the need for a coal-fired power station. It really is the talk of the townJust buid a coal fired power station and cut back on imigration. This will win the election.
The liberals need to stop being a poor mans labour.

Thanks for responding. I agree with you.The Liberal Party right are absolutely convinced they represent “the silent majority” of Australia. They thoroughly believe that “the silent majority” of Australians agree with them, and when it comes to the ballot box, will support them.
If they don’t, they’ll find a different excuse as to why. It’ll be Turnbull (and possibly Morrison) dragging the party to the left (ie, the centre), giving them no time to refocus it and put in place their winning policies.
Anything but “we’re just not representative”.
They have been emboldened by Trump and Brexit, they thoroughly believe they have the support. All the Newcorp dailies picking off people one at a time helps them out.
I just don't get it... who other than LNP MPs and Senators even listen to Bolt, Hadley, Credlin, Newscorp journos. It's like an echo chamber. Why do these people wield so much influence when 99% of Australians couldn't give a toss what they think?
Plain packaging doesn’t stop people from smoking.Murdoch (and Gina) funds the IPA
IPA tells the LNP what to think
Otherwise those representing LNP get their $ pulled.
LNP has no money to run otherwise (they were dependent partly on Turnbull, surprised he couldn't parlay that financial control into better influence)
Oh, and on the IPA - they are firmly with Big Tobacco given they opposed plain packaging. So it is reasonable to say the IPA want people to smoke so they will die before reaching retirement age.
**** me dead.
You'll vote Liberal, they'll cut taxes, reduce new start, send profits upwards, stifle demand and you'll wonder why things havent improved. Then next election they'll make more noises about immigration and you'll be sucked in again.
**** me dead. You'll vote Labor, they will blow the Budget on schemes like pink batts, this will send the economy down, there are less jobs, and less money for employers to pay workers, and you'll make noise about people begin sacked, or not getting paid enough "perks" at work, and then immigrants will be hired to take your jobs because they don't ask for time-and-a-half, double-time, etc.
The Libs will then get back in and have to cut spending etc, because the ALP have pissed all the tax money down the toilet on windmills and solar panels, to appease the irrelevant Greens.
but it might take 15 years or so, seeing as how they have done such a good job this timeThe Libs will then get back in

Pink bats and immigrants.
Keep fighting that fight, champ.
I might get out and do some electioneering, I haven’t since 1993
We won the booth and the election, but lost the seat. One Liberal volunteer was a nasty piece of work and even rude to people, obviously thick as some people actually vote on manners of the parties
In the end I overheard her dismayed say to her colleagues. “I worry about the future of my kids unless we get a GST”
I got cruised by a fat queen handing out htv cards for the Libs when I was doing it for the Greens. Not my type but he was a sweetheart, he had The Internationale as his ring tone too.All the Lib electoral workers I've come across over the years are a pack of campaigners. To be expected, I suppose.
Not sure how popular they will be trying to be the rich mans One NationJust buid a coal fired power station and cut back on imigration. This will win the election.

Reduces brand differentiation, appeal to new smokers and therefore reduces smoking rates.Plain packaging doesn’t stop people from smoking.

How will being “very religious” help him to connect with the 30% of Australians who reported themselves as having no religion, or indeed the overwhelming majority of mainstream Christians who regard Pentecostalism (creationism, speaking in tongues) as downright loopy?
In my opinion, mass media can go on and on about economic matters, that is, "people are doing it tough" or "people are going real well" and this type of thing doesn't make much of a difference because the electorate knows "how well they are doing it".It is hard to ignore the mass media - because they will
1) always have a core of people who agree with their echo chamber so validating the hosts' viewpoint
2) when the mass media also is involved in bribing the brains of a political party (in this case the IPA and their links to Murdoch) even if "people/ audience" appeared to abadon that media, they would stay relevant to the cash strapped political party
Maybe the only way is to boycott those who advertise on those media (Sky/ 2GB etc). Or support online advertising to demonstrate mass media's weaknesses...
