AFL Club
GWS
1st round

PICK 1
Essendon
Hugh McCluggage
North Ballarat Rebels
H:
185 cm W: 75 kg DOB: 3/3/1998
In terms of list needs, Essendon doesn't have anything gaping that you could use pick one on (No stand out key forward or Key Defender) so the nect best thing is to pick best available. If it isn't McCluggage then it's Mcgrath, but I think Essendon will be looking for a ready replacement for Jobe Watson when he retires.

Pick 2
GWS
Andrew Mcgrath
Sandringham Dragons
H:
179 cm W: 75 kg DOB: 2/6/1998
No brainer here, GWS already flagging massive interest and moving up the draft order for this guy who is "just like Heath Shaw". Don't be surprised to see GWS pull out a shock pick here if Mcgrath is taken by Essendon

Pick 3
GCS *Match Brisbane Bid*
Jack Bowes
GCS Academy
H:
187 cm W: 78 kg DOB: 26/1/1998
Pick 4 used to match, 247 points left over = Pick 52
Been described as the next Gary Ablett Jnr. so no one would be letting him slip through, pretty much guarenteed as he will probably be Gold Coast only academy match for the night

Pick 4
Brisbane
Ben Ainsworth
Gippsland Power
H:
179 cm W: 74 kg DOB: 10/2/1998
Best small forward in the draft and with Josh Green's delisting they are in need of a spark and a quick small in the forward fifty. Kid kicks goals in his sleep. Sam Petrivski-Seton may also be considered but I think they'd be confident with their midfield and Half Forward stocks.

Pick 5
GWS *Match Carlton Bid*
Will Setterfield
Sandringham Dragons
H:
190 cm W: 80 kg DOB: 5/2/1998
Pick 15 and 37 used to match, 93 points left over = Pick 65 compo
Another quality midfielder in the GWS academy, very good player and I don't think Carlton will mind when GWS match.

Pick 6
Carlton
Will Brodie
Murray Bushrangers
H:
189 cm W: 82 kg DOB: 23/8/1998
Strong midfielder who amkes his presence on field known very well and is the best option for Carlton at this pick

Pick 7
GCS
Sam Petrevski-Seton
Claremont
H:
181 cm W: 76 kg DOB: 19/2/1998
A quality user of the ball who plays midfield and Forward flank, strong pick up for gold coast along the lines of Harley Bennell, but hopefully cleaner.

Pick 8
Fremantle
Tim English
South Fremantle
H:
204 cm W: 86 kg DOB: 10/8/1997
In a draft with a couple of quality ruckman Tim is easily the best overall and is much like Aaron Sandilands, could see him lining up Round 1 depending on pre-season

Pick 9
GCS
Todd Marshall
Murray Bushrangers
H:
198 cm W: 87 kg DOB: 8/10/1998
Best key forward in the draft and with Peter Wright (supposedly) on the way out he makes for a ready replacement and an upgrade on Sam Day

Pick 10
GWS *Match Sydney Bid*
Harry Perryman
Collingullie-GP
H:
184 cm W: 75 kg DOB: 19/12/1998
Pick 39, 45, 53, 55 used to match, 130 left over = pick 61
Not going to be let go by GWS as he can play both ends very well (think Paul Seedsman but better) and is in NSW so no go home factor

Pick 11
Sydney
Jack Scrimshaw

Sandringham Dragons
H: 194 cm W: 80 kg DOB: 4/9/1998
Scrimshaw and Logue have both been floated as sydney's pick here but I've gone for Scrimshaw because he adds something sydney really lack, outside run and if need be is at the height where he can also play Key position roles.

Pick 12
GCS
Jarrod Berry
North Ballarat Rebels
H: 191 cm W: 80 kg DOB: 5/2/1998
Jarrod is a fantastic player and can slot straight in to replace Nick Malckescki's recent departure. very versatile player that can also play midfield and forward.

Pick 13
North Melbourne
Tim Taranto
Sandringham Dragons
H: 186 cm W: 82 kg DOB: 28/1/1998

Fantastic midfielder that really came into his own at the back end of the season, best choice at this selection

Pick 14
West Coast
Jy Simpkin
Murray Bushrangers
H: 181 cm W: 71 kg DOB: 5/3/1998
"Third times a charm,ey"

West Coast don't have any glaring list needs right now so I thought I'd go with the player I rate the most from the remaining crop. He has the most spark when in control of the ball and creates goals from nothing, broken leg might be a problem but I think he'll come out on top

Pick 15
Adelaide
Daniel Venables
Western Jets
H: 186 cm W: 81 kg DOB: 19/11/1998

Very strong forward with the potential to push into the midfield, again with no glaring list needs just gave them who I rate best, been compared to Dangerfield a bit.

Pick 16
Port Adelaide
Will Hayward
North Adelaide
H: 186 cm W: 76 kg DOB: 26/10/1998

Another quality Half Forward, stormed on to the scene later in the year and is looking likely as the cream of South Australia, good user of the footy who could thrive in Port's forward line.

Pick 17
Brisbane
Alex Witherden
Geelong Falcons
H: 189 cm W:79 kg DOB: 10/9/1998
A strong quality user of the footy from half back, broken leg set him back but will be ready day one of pre season. Bit of a bolter but think brisbane could really benefit with a guy like Witherden

Pick 18
Port Adelaide
Cedric Cox
North Ballarat Rebels
H:184 cm W: 70 kg DOB: 19/8/1997
This was the hardest one for me to pick, I believe that either Cedric Cox, Oliver Florent or Griffin Logue but believe Cox has the most potential as he is another half back that fits in with todays game, much like Jason Johanison.

Pick 19
Western Bulldogs
Griffin Logue
Swan Districts
H: 194 cm W: 92 kg DOB: 13/4/1998

Departure of Hamling and Adams most likely looking out next season, consider this damage control more than anything else. He's a already at AFL level.

Pick 20
Sydney
Oliver Florent
Sandringham Dragons
H: 183 cm W: 74 kg DOB: 22/7/1998

Much like scrimshaw Florent offers outside run with the versatility to move forward and kick goals, much like Steele sidebottom

2nd round

Pick 21
Essendon
Josh Battle
Dandenong Stingrays
H: 192 cm W: 90 kg DOB: 1/9/1998

At best, he'll be another menancing key forward in the competition, more realistically he'll be the third tall to accompany Daniher and Stewart in a couple of years time. Good pick up either way for the bombers

Pick 22
Brisbane
Shai Bolton
South Fremantle
H 178 cm W: 68 kg DOB: 8/12/1998

Another Quality small forward for Brisbane, similiar to Ainsworth just, not as good. A lot like Michael Walters being able to out run most opponents and adds some more speed to Brisbane

Pick 23
Brisbane
Dylan Clarke
Eastern Ranges
H 187 cm W 85 kg DOB: 6/9/1998

Clarke is a contested ball king. He's a bull around the ball and contests. Led the U18 Carnival for clearances which brisbane really need

Pick 24
St Kilda *GWS don't match bid*
Kobe Mutch
Bendigo Pioneers
H 184 cm W 74 kg DOB 18/3/1998

Mutch is a complete midfielder. Great at getting in and under, even better running past and getting the handball out. Don't see us matching this as we're already stacked for midfielders and will be saving points for Macredie

Pick 25
Geelong
Patrick Kerr
Oakleigh Chargers
H 194 cm W 93 kg DOB 31/7/1998

It's clear that geelong fans think they need someone down there to give Tom Hawkins a hand and I think with Battle gone Kerr is the best choice. Led the U18 carnival for marks on the lead and is very mobile for a big man

Pick 26
Brennan Cox
Carlton
Woodville-West Torrens
H 192 cm W 79 kg DOB 13/8/1998

Cox is an impressive swingman that possesses the ability to play tall and small. Good option at this pick and can act as a third tall up forward or in defense for Carlton

Pick 27
Western Bulldogs
Sam Powell-Pepper
East Perth
H 186 cm W 83 kg DOB 8/1/1998

Pick 28
Richmond
Brad Scheer *GCS don't match bid*
Palm Beach Currumbin
H 184 cm W 83 kg DOB 31/8/1998

Brad's inside ball winning is ridiculous. He's slipped down as I feel his injury has pushed him behind others but is still a great pick up

Pick 29
GWS *Match Collingwoods bid*
Harrison Macredie
Henty
H 196 cm W 89 kg DOB 11/4/1998

Not quite sure how this is matched (think we'll ahve to go into deficit for next year). Is more at home on the half back flank but will be put in the gym and built into a key defender

Pick 30
Collingwood
Jack Maibaum
Eastern Ranges
H 193 cm W 90 kg DOB 27/3/1998

A shorter key defender but he still won All Australian honours with his display throughout the carnival

Pick 31
Essendon
Jonty Scharenberg
Glenelg
H 186 cm W 80 kg DOB 28/8/1998

Jonty is a good in and under player, will be picked up to stock up a clubs midfielder stocks, could be a very good player

Pick 32
Port Adelaide
Alex Villis
Norwood
H 182 cm W 70 kg DOB 20/8/1998

Fantatsic half back flanker that can push up onto the wing, fantastic outside run

Pick 33
Port Adelaide
Max Lynch *GWS don't match*
Murray Bushrangers
H 200 cm W 96 kg DOB 12/9/1998

Second best ruckman in the draft, with Lobbe pretty shocking Port need another ruckman to step up shortly. Lynch won't require too much development at 96 kg and 200 cm his hitout rate is pretty good and he's fantastic around the ground

Pick 34
Adelaide *Match North Melbourne Bid*
Ben Jarman
North Adelaide
H 175 cm W 68 kg DOB 5/5/1998

Adelaide won't let Jarman slip from them. Pick 43 used to match

Pick 35
Collingwood
Josh Daicos
Oakleigh Chargers
H 178 cm W 69 kg DOB 26/11/1998
Pick 44 used to match

Pick 36
North Melbourne
Kym Lebois
North Adelaide
H 175 cm W 66 kg DOB 22/5/1998

Pick 37
North Melbourne
Mitch McCarthy
Dandenong Stingrays
H 196 cm W87 kg DOB 10/10/1998

Was used as a ruckman at TAC and Vic Country level, don't be surprised to see him develop into a key defender

Pick 38
West Coast
Josh Rotham
West Perth
H 192 cm W 79 kg DOB 25/2/1998

Good general defender, impressive in the air and very quick so closes gaps quickly

Pick 39
West Coast *Match Fremantle bid*
Jake Waterman
Perth
H 191 cm W 82 kg DOB 12/3/1998
Use pick 54

size of a flanker, plays like a tall, could be anything

Pick 40
Fremantle
Sam Mclarty
Oakleigh Chargers
H 193 cm W 93 kg DOB 11/5/1998

Good utility player, will need time to develop which with fremantle's pick ups he should get

Pick 41
St Kilda
Sam Walker
Glenelg
H 187 cm W 80 kg DOB 16/3/1998

Fantastic coming off half back, like Jason Johanison, ranked 5th for rebound fifties during the carnival

Pick 42
Geelong
Jack Graham
North Adelaide
H 183 cm W 83 kg DOB 25/2/1998

Pick 43
Fremantle
Matt Guelfi
Claremont
H 184 cm W 78 kg DOB 14/8/1997
No notes

great effort Scullywag , fantastic to see a new phantom drafter on BF.:thumbsu:

Ainsworth is a no brainer for us although you have Witherden as our other first round pick, really like him as an option but would rather Florent who you had as still available at that pick. i feel he fills our needs better ie. outside class/pace/ball use and can go forward.

really hoping Jarrod Berry is still available at our pick 16, do you think he could slide from the pick 12 you have him at? looking forward to seeing who you have at our 2 early 2nd round picks

Personally think the best part about this draft is how unpredictable its going to be. Defintley think berry is a 10-20 range player but also think he's the best back flanker option in that range with McGrath a guaranteed top 2 and scrimshaw going to Sydney or GCS in the top 10

Jarrod Berry is a very intriguing player and most of us have absolutely no clue where he'll end up - I'd imagine Syndey, Gold Coast, North Melbourne, West Coast, Port Adelaide and Brisbane would all have expressed interest with their top 20 picks. I have him going to Brisbane, but I can definitely see GCS pulling the trigger early - they're definitely the hardest club to call. I've got them taking Bowes, Taranto, Scrimshaw and Logue but I'm feeling Logue may be less appealing to them as I thought and perhaps he's bound for elsewhere. Berry or Simpkin may be good fits with their last open pick.

I'd love Taranto to fall to us but in reality I can't see it. Ditto Logue getting to 19.

No Powell-Pepper?
**** me, was gonna put him in for Bulldogs second round but thought I had someone take him in first.
Added Powell-Pepper, moved Jack Graham to Geelong last 2nd round pick, removed Corey Lyons

Pick 14
West Coast

Midfield is the glaring need.

Won't be playing round 1 IMO

Can't he see him playing many senior games next year.

Has good agility & skills for a big guy but needs some time with the weights.

Agree - can't see him playing 2017 at all

of the players you had as available i like your 2nd round selections for us Scully, the only other ones i would maybe look at instead are B.Cox and Powell-Pepper although i am warming to Dylan Clarke.

Iam sure pick 38 belongs to Geelong could be wrong.24,38,42 Geelong 1st 3 picks.

Only two players pick in the top 25 last year didnt debut, if he doesnt there is something seriously wrong and not worthy of a top 10 pick

My thoughts exactly, you don't use a top 10 pick on a project player or someone you don't see debuting during their first season

LOL. The eagles midfield is its biggest weakness. Sure mitchell will help for a year or 2 but in 2 years time when both mitchell and priddis gone we will have a massive whole in our midfield. This draft is perfect time for us to draft and develop mids for the coming few years.
