Damn that sucks, so much unfulfilled potential :(

I guess we all kinda knew it was coming, and it was a matter of when rather than if.

Sad day the guy certainly gave it his all and the club gave him every chance unfortunately it has run it's course. He certainly could have added something to our team currently which is saying something given where we sit on the ladder. All the best for him in life after football with the determination, courage and focus he has shown in his efforts to get back on the park it's hard to imagine him not being a success elsewhere in life.

I don't think the G/C really have much to offer if he has given up on his body which I assume is the case then it won't matter where he goes. Especially considering how good our medical staff is, I am pretty sure given the faith we have shown in him if Rusling was to play football next year it would be for CFC.

Damn!! How frustrating his last few years would have been knowing that he was good enough, just not getting out on the park for any serious amount of time.

From all accounts he kept his head up and stayed positive through that time as hard as that would have been.

Thanks for the (brief) memories Sean.

Such a sad situation when a player of that immense talent just can't get his body right, while some squibs with no talent continue to whack out a career at shit clubs.

I wish Sean all the best in whatever he does in the future.:thumbsu:

THis.

I think we as a supporters have been robbed of some great footy memories with Rus never really getting past these injuries.

Best of luck to him in retirement.

Poor bloke, deserved better luck than what he got. I really thought he was a shot of making it back after seeing him play his return game at Geelong, he looked awesome.

:(

At least both club and player gave it their best shot. Disappointing for Rusling and Collingwood. Could have been competing for a spot at FF since 2007 :( Eddie basically said Rus career was over when talking about Lenny Hayes the other day on TripleM.

I'm kinda of relieved in a sense. It was almost heart breaking seeing his name on the injury list for so long.

At least now he can go out into the world and make something of himself.

Best of luck.

Sorry boys, I just couldn't do it any more. Don't hold it against me, I tried and tried and tried and tried....I gave it everything :(

Real shame this is. I thought the was going to be a superstar, hence the name. The people who've read Buckley's autobiography will know this but when he describes the 2007 finals series he keeps mentioning things like "i collected it and passed to Rusling on the lead" or "Rusling gave a great lead and I honoured it." It just sounded like he commanded the forward line and had so much pace it made it impossible for the players not to use him.

I'll keep the username as a tribute.

Very sad news if true.

So much unfulfilled talent due to just bad luck with injury.

Was a real magpie favourite and daresay it, would have been a magpie great had he been able to stay on the park.

Definitely one of my favourite players to pull on the black and white stripes.
