Last touch makes total sense. Most of the boundary umps are unable to throw it in properly anyway.
If there are no umpires, there’s literally no game. Simple as that. Have you ever umpired a match yourself? Most people who complain or abuse umpires have never stood in the middle and actually done the job. This is exactly why we have a shortage — everyone relies on umpires but loves to give them grief.
