There are 3 pace bowlers who are miles better than brett, Oh ah glenn mcgrath, jason gillespie and andy bichel. How many do we need? He will get a game when he returns, but for once i wanna see him be selected to take wickets and bowl properly, not just to be a smart arse and intimidate tail end batsmen.

Who thinks Lee should be in the team as soon as he is fit?
Who else thinks he is better off staying in the state comp???

I suppose it'll depend on how Williams, Bichel and Bracken perform while Lee and McGrath are out, and if Gillespie can string a few matches together.

McGrath will obviously slot straight back in as soon as he is fit and has bowled in a few lower level games, and if Gillespie maintains his fitness there'll be less pressure on the change bowlers/fringe players...

If Australia are in the position where Williams, Bracken and Bichel look like spearheading the attack, one B.Lee may be rushed back.

Brett Lee is nothing special anymore. The papers are having a tug over him cos he grabbed 3 wickets v the Vics, only one of which was a top 6 batsman mind you. His figures over the last 25 tests he has played:
- 83 wickets
- only one 5I (5/67 in Perth v NZ 21 tests ago!)
- average of 36.08
- strike rate of 60.8

That should not see him picked ahead of Bichel. If Williams or Bracken can impress quickly, then Lee could well see himself standing in the middle of a growing queue.

He has also never taken 6 wickets in an innings. Over 35 tests, that says to me that maybe he can't totally rip through an opponent. What's he waiting for? It reminds me of a certain retired Australian batsman that could never mount a really big score in his entire career.

Not really- Bracken deserves another go but it won't happen. Cricket Oz want thier glamour boy in the side as quickly as possible.

Pie chucker.

Love the name calling though, how very mature.

He's a decent bowler, though I think he is highly over-rated by ignorant viewers and media alike. There is a lot of hype surrounding the speed at which he delivers the ball, but that is quickly becomming irrelevant as there are nowa handful of blokes around the world that can bowl in excess of 150km/h - it's not as daunting a task as it was a few years ago. Batsmen do not fear him like they once did.

Brett Lee should be back in the team for the Boxing Day test, and thank goodness for that as our bowling attack lacks quality without McGrath, Lee and Warne in the attack.

Pick him!! Pick the boy now!!
let him go, tell him to bowl, and bowl fast!! There is nothing more terrifying than a quick bowler surrounded by line and length seamers.
Even if he is a bit loose, they have still got to be able to play it first.
All the other bowlers are just lacking that extra yard of pace, and that is the difference between Australia leading by 200 runs on first innings, and opposition teams getting away and feasting on medium pace, Dravid style.;)

Correct.

His stat's today at the MCG:

13 overs 0/44.

For the match he's taken 3 wickets from 38 overs (minus wides and no balls) - that's 1 scalp per 76 deliveries.

Hardly awe inspiring.

In theory he should be made to earn his place back in the side, but a national team which 'boasts' an attack including Williams, Bichel, Bracken & MacGill is not exactly what could be described as intimidating - even at domestic level. And his 'comeback' against the Vics has not been a roaring success, except when batting.

In reality - Lee will get picked as he does have real pace (which the Indians don't like) and he can bat a bit, unlike MacGill & Williams - not to mention the selectors like him.

0-62 so far on a 4th day wicket that has seen top quality batsman fail twice (Elliott, Waugh, Clarke, Hodge).

Surely he needs one more match before being 'rewarded' with a call up.
