The AFL had concluded its investigation and decided on penalties on the Tuesday BEFORE the National Draft on the following Sunday.
It wasn't just unfortunate timing - it was deliberate and pre-meditated.
The AFL blithely permitted Carlton to participate in the draft (where they picked up a couple of talented youngsters I might add)knowing full well that they were cheats. Again I don't want to start sounding like a conspiracy theorist but the timing and nature of these actions makes you wonder....
Again any other club would not got off nearly so lightly. And the really galling thing was that the AFL bent over backwards not to offend Carlton in any of this sordid business. When they announced the indiscretion and the (pathetic) penalties the tone of their rhetoric was sickly : sycophantic and apologetic are two words that spring to mind.
David Parkin DID assault a spectator. Punching somebody is assault, in fact you don't even have to connect for it to be an assault - and Parkin certainly connected.
On the issue of grounds - the other clubs owned their grounds as well but were still compelled to rationalise, why weren't Carlton ?
And as to the nature of your latest indiscretion - well who cares what the money was supposed to be for - you broke the rules but because the AFL thinks the sun shines outta your arse you get a slap on the wrist. hmmmm
I don't care how much you bleat on about 'technical breaches' or 'retirement payments' call it what you like - its still a breach of the salary cap, your third in as many years.
Either sack your accountants or swallow your stupid pride and play by the rules like everyone else has to.

I am glad I went to work though as now that I'm convinced that we are in bed with the AFL, I can comfortably go and put my hard earned money on the Blues for the 2001 premiership. Our buddy Jacko will see to it that those big bad bombers don't edge ahead in the flag tally. Then again why do they keep trying to find these breaches? Why don't they just pretend they never existed? Then they would avoid the flack and protect their silent partner in the running of the comp!

The thing that amazes me with all this rot about AFL favouritism of Carlton is people who seem intelligent and educated really believe it. Surely, you are taking the piss, aren't you? Forgive me if this is old news.
It would appear that John "mouth bigger than my entire body" Elliot is absolutely hell-bent on supplying himself with the worst reputation he can muster.
It seems that Elliot was driving home from a successful Carlton game in his Mercedes Benz with several female passengers when he was caught and, despite his most beligerent and chauvanistic efforts, couldn't dissuade the female police officer from slapping him with a court summons for registering at three times the legal limit.
Despite the best efforts of his lawyer, who euphamised Elliot's humanitarian nature as best he could, with comments like "He is someone who does put into the community from
time to time," (what a compelling statement!!), Mr. Elliot received a two year ban on his licence.
But what was even more damaging for the financially struggling Elliot, was the hefty $535 in fines he was hit with. I've been thinking of starting a John "big heart" Elliot Fund to help him out there.
What I think was truly saddening was the fact that all he had been trying to do was selflessly give of his services to give some women a ride home. Punished for helping someone out with no thought of any reward, as befits a giver like him.... it's a cruel world isn't it Bee?
And whack that on top of the AFL's merciless interest in his efforts to give a little back to a retiring player. There's just no justice is there?

Its no big deal - just all part of the normal footy banter that goes on.
If you can't rely on a Bluebagger to come up with the old line 'we've got more flags than you' - well who can you rely on ?
