I know it's only a pre season comp game but i was wondering how the rest of the Crows supporters [ & pap supp i guess ] feel about the rd 1 clash on the 22nd, should we go flat out to win & will the players from both sides just take it as another showdown & go for broke regardless on how the coaching staff see it,???

in my opinion we should treat this as a showdown warmer & make it the first of 3 strikes against the Paps for season 2003 & go for it right from the start,

I personally would treat it as a real showdown especially since we have lost the last 5. I think we need to get this monkey of our back and win this match which should give us more confidence going into the real showdown. Its more of a phsycological battle than it is physical. I think the last 3 showdowns we lost by 8 poins or so. As I said we really need to win this and give ourselves confidence required to proceed and win the other 2 showdowns in the minor round and trash the paps in the finals:D

P.S. Gotta run will be late for my flight.:D

Don't care much about the wizard cup, but I think this is an important psychological battle so I hope we go out to beat the Power.

On the other hand, maybe we should leave the March premierships to the PAPs and get the real ones for ourselves.

Against the Power Rangers it should be viewed like all those matches are - showdowns.

Both sides must play their guts out, who cares what time of the year it is.

Maybe the pre-season cup should be played out by the rookies and less experienced players.

But I think that any AFL silverware is better than none... as well as a big cheque to their club.

Well, Ayres or another coaching staff member has already commented that the club will be taking the Wizard Cup seriously, so as to gain momentum going into the first couple of rounds of the actual season. And I agree with them as it worked well last year, and hopefully will again this year.

But like Stiffy touched on, the psychological factor is the most impt thing here, in my opinion. We need to get back a win and boost our confidence even more. But regardless of the result next Saturday night, I can already guess what the Pork will be saying:

We win: "Its the wizard cup, it's not a real win, [blah crap blah]"
We lose: "Thats 4 wins (or whatever it is) in a row now you Cows [more cheap, arrogant swipes]"

A win would be good for sure, but I don't think a loss will greatly affect the main season much at all, even with the Showdowns.

I always want to beat the Powder - I think we will :)

If we win though we have to go to Darwin to play either Freo or the W C Eagles - is that really a good thing?

Well it didnt do Andrew McLeod any harm did it?

Travel at this time of year should'nt be a problem, it wouldnt hurt to get some young guys into the travel routine anyway.

As long as we don't have any serious injuries it should be no problems.

PS : I wanna see us beat the Power next week!

Yeah, just like we always go on about last time we beat you in the pre-season comp.

It will still be 5 straight no matter what happens next weekend.

As opposed to cows supporters:

If Port win: "Its only the Wizard cup, it's not a real game"
or (unlikely) if Port loses: "What about 97-98?"

Btw it's 5 on the trott ignorant tool.

Wizard Cup games aren't real games. It's a pre-season tourney right? The Wizard Cup is not what the AFC (I can't speak for you're club) are wanting the most. That doesn't mean I think its unimportant. If you read and understand my last post, I support the line of thinking that a strong showing in the Wizard Cup can hopefully help us get off to another good start to the main season.

Well, at least we can claim back-to back flags. Does your attempted insult directed at me imply that you are jealous that your team can't be even proud of one real (non-preseason) flag?

We beat you in Victor Harbour:D ;)

Power are looking very strong.

Should be an even game

Football will be the winner.

No, it's to imply that it's not just Port supporters who will trott out lame statements whatever the result. If you think cow supporters don't have lame predictable retorts then you are kidding yourself.

I think its safe to say both lots of supporters do.

Any port v Crows arugment always heads down the same path re resutts and histroy and corporate entities etc

I think at the end of the day, both Clubs actually respect each other, but passionate supporters won't allow themselves to do that with each other for fear of losing face.

It makes it all fun though, and its great to have such an intense rivalry.

My wife's a Power fan, so at the end of the day - it is only footy.:D

Good to see you agree with one of the points in my original post: that Port supporters will trott out lame statements whatever the result.

I don't think that at all.
