Raines has improved considerably and is a valuable player for the Tiges. I'd go with Simpson because he has more natural talent, more polished skills and greater upside. :)

Raines every day of the week. Simpson is yet to win me over. And Raines already looks like he could become an elite player of the competition.

Raines is winning, slowly but surely 19-15.

My reasoning for voting Raines:

- Raines is younger, 20 to Simpson 22, and so has more improvement.
- Raines seems to be more attacking and able to set up plays, while Simpson is a good player he doesn’t have the attack on the ball that Raines does, Raines is quite willing to get the hard ball and doesn’t shirk a contest. Simpson isn’t able to give Carlton that attack that Raines does give to Richmond
- While Simpson is nearly two years older than Raines, he only gets the ball 1.1 more times and only takes 0.6 more tackles. When Raines is 22, he will perform much better
- Simpson hasn’t played this well as Raines at such a young age. When Simpson was Raines’ age, he was still a relative unknown. If it hadn’t of been for Pierce’s wonderful season (deserving winner, I concur) Raines would have won the NAB rising star, Simpson hasn’t come close.

This is a good one. Have to go Raines as he has achieved more and is younger. The hype about Simpson is getting hard to ignore however. I have a feeling Simpson will have a massive 07. But for now, it has to be Raines.

I know. They are often compared and Carlton people often talk up Simpson, I was wondering if others agreed that Raines is better than Simpson.

Parrot will tell you that Whitnall is quicker than Richo if he gets the chance, (But god bless Parrots rantings!:) ) however Raines's year in 06 as a 20 year old was more impressive than Simpsons as a 22 year old. Unbiased Carlton fans will agree with that. I just think that Simpson has improved so much in the last 6 months and there is a good chance he will become a great player in the coming years. Sometimes players mature a little later and i think Simpson is one of those.
Put it this way, i doubt very much anyone who supports Carlton or Richmond would be interested in swapping players.

That is what makes this comparison a pretty good one.

I'm sure Richmond are very happy having Raines as we are having Simpson, I don't really think you can split them atm but I will be bias and say Simpson, more damaging.

What a ridiculous thing to say. He didn't win, he wasn't good enough. If Marc Murphy hadn't got injured, he would have taken it but he got injured, so he didn't. You can't say someone would have if they didn't

Am I wrong? The only thing standing between Raines and this year's rising star award is Pearce. That's what I said, and I'm right.

Raines has already shown more than Simpson, yet he is 2 years younger. Says it all really.

and parrot reckons simpson ahs more natural talent and upside, and well generally when it comes to talented young players you get what parrot says and the truth is 100% opposite to what it said

Simpson really had a breakthrough year & for mine is only marginally ahead.

If Raines continues to develop, gee he really could be a sensational top tier footballer.

Its actually a very good poll, both will be very good players, Raines is developing at a younger age than Kade, but Kade really came on this year & his I.R. selection is testament to his development & ability.

Richmond fans must be stoked.

Carlton fans estatic that we got a player of his quality after missing out on our first 2 picks of the 02 draft.

how about

simpson versus stanton
who would you want

Might do that actually. BTW thanks for all the complements, I wasn't sure if everyone would say: "are you a ****** X is way better than Y" but people recognise the talents of both, and the two are very good, Simpson is one of Carlton's better youngsters alongside Murphy and Raines fits well with Deledio.

Both are very good with potential. Simpson, although older, has really been a much slower developer and it was only until mid 05 that he started putting some decent performances, with a breakout 06. He's super exciting and is definetly a Blue to watch.

Raines has certainly impressed me, in particular his attack on the ball. Will be another very good player like Kade.

Hard to say now, as neither has reached their full potential, but one thing seems certain: both are and will be very good players and both club's supporters are happy with who they've got.

What do you mean he has more improvement? Sure if Simpson was 30 then you could definately say that but he's 22 and he will certainly improve as well, or do you not think that will happen?
