1. Shane Watson
2. Shaun Marsh
3. Aaron Finch
4. Matthew Wade
5. Phil Hughes
6. Callum Ferguson
7. Dan Christian
8. Ryan Harris
9. Xavier Doherty
10. Josh Hazlewood
11. Doug Bollinger

Don't mind some of that side, but some of it confuses me. Why Hughes at 5? He's had a pretty ordinary summer (apart from a couple of really good shield games at the end), I could probably see why you might choose him in the side as an opener. Maybe he opens or is at 3 whilst Marsh comes in at 4 or 5? I like the rest of the batting though.

When will Harris and Hazlewood be back from injury? Harris was out for a while wasn't he? Doherty I am not so sure about, I think we might even be better off going in with Dave Hussey as our "specialist spinner" because we don't seem to have anyone else for the time being. And why Bollinger? He's rarely fit, injury prone and has never had much success against decent teams? May as well have Johnson or pick one of the many young talents coming through.

i think ronchi's time has come and gone. i'm a fan and have wanted his inclusion before but his figures were subsequently pointed out to me and he's fallen off somewhat since his blistering start.
wade looks the goods. i think paine can strike it a bit quicker than we've seen too.

Strange thing about Shaun Marsh. He was picked in both the Shield and t20 teams of the year but the Aussies only ever play him in one dayers.

He should be in the t20 as one of the first picks in the country, I don't understand why they won't play him.

David Warner and Shane Watson, where does Marsh fit in?

At 3.

Well, he would in my world. I think it's really stupid to leave him on the sidelines.

I might not necessarily have him in the one day team though. He doesn't appear to concentrate well enough for that format at international level and he'll never be a test player.

Trouble with Hughes is that he could be kept quiet too easily if the bowling was accurate and they bowled to their plans.

I'd love to see something like this for Bangladesh....

Shane Watson
Aaron Finch
Callum Ferguson
Michael Clarke
Shaun Marsh
Matthew Wade
Daniel Christian
John Hastings
Ryan Harris
Xavier Doherty
Clint McKay

George Bailey
Michael Hussey
Steve O'Keefe
James Pattinson

But, I'm expecting something more like this....

Shane Watson
Brad Haddin
Cameron White
Michael Clarke
Ricky Ponting
Callum Ferguson
Steve Smith
John Hastings
Mitchell Johnson
Brett Lee
Nathan Hauritz

Tim Paine
David Warner
Clint McKay
James Pattinson

I like the general look of your first team, but have Marsh, Harris and McKay recovered from their injuries?
They'd probably all be there if not, but I doubt any of them are fit/match ready enough to be picked.
And I sincerely hope that they don't play Cam White ahead of David Hussey again. It was bad enough that they did it in the World Cup, when one was in good form and the other going horribly and little has changed since.
It will be interesting to see which way they go, though. To see how much courage they have.

can't believe that out of all the players picked here Cosgrove didn't get a mention...after all the crap SA gave him, it shows some fortitude and talent to have season like he has had, a fact is that he his a better batsman than most mentioned and over a longer period(when allowed to play)

I think I'm Cosgrove's biggest fan on this board, but the guy is a Test cricketer not a one day player. And I think his domestic form this season proved that - leading run scorer in Shield cricket but an average of 29 in the Ryobi Cup.

It probably has something to do with the fact that Cosgrove hasn't been named in the squad of 24 for the upcoming Australia A tour of Zimbabwe. We've seen the writing on the wall.
If he was in their plans he'd surely have made a squad of 24, but he hasn't.
Then of course there's the fact he's about 20kg's overweight and this is now a very professional sport.

The main problem with Shaun Marsh is that he seems to get injured every 2-3 games. It's not great for team stability having someone come in and play a couple of games every few months. There's not much future in that, surely.

Yes, I'd agree with this. It's unfortunate for him as he looked so promising but he never completes a season now and as it's his hammies... he probably never will.

Something we lacked in the World Cup was the aggression we're used to seeing. Too much tentative batting.

Mark Cosgrove could be an inclusion up the order and be given the licence to hit. he's handy in the slips. Only issue of course his weight and outfield fielding ability.

Shaun Marsh should also be given free rein and told to go the tonk. He's batted slowly in ODI's and we all know he's capable of tearing an attack apart (IPL season 1)

This is what I'd like to see, but it's clearly not going to happen and many will disagree i'm sure.

Cosgrove
Marsh
Watson
Clarke
White
Haddin (Wade to take over in due course)
Smith
Johnson
Krejza (persist for now)
Bollinger
[Insert young and up and coming fast bowler here - Hazelwood, Pattinson, Starc, Cummins even

Others: Ferguson, Warner, Hauritz, Christian

Are the selectors stupid? Surely now is the time for change, especially given we're playing Bangladesh. But nope, they make just two changes to the squad - Pattinson and Doherty for Krejza and D Hussey.

Why even bother?

(Dussey not considered)

most disappointing thing about this squad, besides paine still ****ing being there and the sentance "Xavier was not considered for the ICC Cricket World Cup because of a nagging back injury. Jason bowled well in the World Cup, but now Xavier has recovered from injury he deserves to come back into the squad.", is the complete lack of change. no-one's been made a scrapgoat or anything! awful stuff. no surprise lee is there (adds excitement, puts bums on seats etc. he'll be there for next summer.)

Hold up "nagging back injury"? The bloke played 3 games of cricket in 1 week including 1 Shield match around the time we kicked off our WC campaign. In total he played 6 matches during the WC including 2 finals, wtf are they on about.

As for the squad in general, sooner the selectors are fired the better. What is the point in keeping the same side that lost us the WC minus one retired player and a player seeing the birth of his child? These ODI series will mean nothing in a few months time, ask NZ who lost 4-0 to Bangladesh yet made the Semi Finals.

Sigh.

I guess this means Krejza will be overlooked for Sri Lanka. And I think it's pretty obvious Doherty is one of the best ODI spinners in the country but clearly won't be considered for Sri Lanka. Why not just add Doherty to the squad and keep Krejza in, maybe give one two games and the other one? No point just discarding the poor chap, especially seeing he isn't going to Zimbabwe. But the absurd procession of spinners continue.

Great way to destroy confidence.

Shame for Dussey to miss; he deserved a much better go at the World Cup and now but at least we're not England, giving our players a few days off to attend to the births of their children and then flying them back for more meaningless ODI's ;)

So essentially:

Out: Krejza (omitted), Dussey (family), Tait (retired)
In: Pattinson, Doherty

That "tonking" role, up the order, ought to be played by Mitchell Johnson, surely. They did it once in the series against England and he made a good 70, but then they haven't tried it since. WTF?
Our final game against India the other day was the PERFECT opportunity to do it again, as we'd gotten off to a good start and had used up 20 or so overs and had the momentum, but they went with Clarke, etc. and predictably the run rate slowed. India were suddenly back in it and they never really looked like losing from that moment on.
If we'd put Johnson in (when Haddin went out), we may now be looking forward to playing tonight. Instead, he came in at 8 or so, with 9 balls left in the innings. He's a potential "game breaker", like Pollard, yet he gets to face only 6 balls. Smart.
