Tom Jonas is the most underrated player on ports list.

The fact that most people still dont know of him is disgraceful

Kinda happy for it to stay that way for a while, I'm a fan of Tommy J, one of my favorites, but I like the idea of dangerous opposition forwards being shut down by a kid no one's heard of. It will make opposition fans think about the sort of game that forward played and they might just say "who was on him?".

Westhoff, guy is one of the best contested marks in the competition, and has picked up a reliable set shot these days. Can kick them from all over the place. Can play on the wing, reliable intercept mark in defense and pinch hit in the ruck.

Pretty much invaluable to us.

Down here in Vic, lots of interstate players. Off the top of my head, Tom Rockliff, Jay Shultz and Rory Sloane to name a few. From North, Ben Cunnington is extremely underrated.

Richard Douglas, Mitch Grigg, Joel Patfull, Zach Tuohy, Sam Dwyer, Rory Thompson, Aaron Hall, Dylan Shiel, Jay Schulz, Tom Jonas, Nick Smith, Luke Parker, Liam Picken.

Burgoyne, Jaensch and Ebert. Considered Neale or Mzungu, but thats more a case of recognition not quite caught up with form, than underrated.

One half decent month of football after four years of being a total spud does not qualify somebody as underrated.

Jay Schultz.

+1

Schultz has clean hands.

The fact that no one has so far spelt Schulz correctly leads me to believe that he is indeed underrated ;)

Agree though, and actually believe Port have a lot of underrated players, mainly due to their shitness not long ago so people don't rate their players outside the top handful or most skilful players (Boak, Wingard, Gray, Westhoff, Hartlett, Wines).

Others that I rate at Port that don't get nearly enough recognition are Jonas, Ebert, Broadbent, Trengove, Monfries & Hombsch. Get an extra 20-40 games into the majority of that Port side and it will be formidable...

I tend to watch less of the non-Vic clubs, but when I do, there seems to be some guys who perform often and don't get the plaudits. Guys like Joel Patfull (rock solid defender), Mitch Golby (good young defender), Josh Green (excellent reader of the player, contributes consistently), Nick Smith, Craig Bird, Luke Parker, Stephen Coniglio, Richard Douglas, Andy Otten, Eric Mackenzie (top 5 key back for mine), Matt Rosa, Chris Masten, Chris Mayne, Zac Clarke & Sam Day all perform at a much higher level than recognised for.

From Vic clubs I'd say Cale Hooker, Robert Murphy, Ed Curnow, Cam Guthrie, Tom Curren, Leigh Adams (with the exception of 2013) and Michael Talia are all deserving of higher ratings.

For an outright winner - Parker or Douglas. Both excellent footballers, would be top 10 at most clubs imo.

edit: And there you go - the most underrated footballer is the one I forgot about - Ben Stratton. Oohh Gibson oooh Lake oooh Birchall...always the forgotten one is Stratton, how often does he get beaten?

Agree with this, was actually thinking about it the other day, just how good has this bloke become. Along with Roughead, arguably the most versatile tall in the game atm.
