Tex seems to have had plenty of time to make a decision on his retirement.
If nothing has been said by now, do we assume he will play again next year now ?

Seems strange that there is no news on a new contract, no whispers about retirement
Is he in Melbourne?

Is he doing a lap before the game?

Hasn't there been a weirdly persistent Chris Scott wants to move to Adelaide (the city) rumour that's been hanging around over the course of the year.

Written it off as fantastical, but as a rumour it's had some staying power
You could just see Adam Kelly mixing up the Scott brothers, we’ve told people it’s Chris but talking to Brad.

Chris Scott's wife is from Adelaide. Close friends with 1 of my mum's god daughter's (his wife)

No I don't know anything else beyond that. Her god daughter went to boarding school in Adelaide, most of the family is still in Queensland

Panicking and sending Laird into the midfield instead of Curtin in the finals is absolutely a mindset thing. Especially after we trusted Curtin in the middle in previous games.

It's mental gymnastics to argue otherwise.
Proves everyone knew our midfield was spluttering ....of course you would opt for experience over youth in a Final

Yeah all that is true but improving our floor and depth helps cover for injury or form drop in players and that alone has to make us better. The dogs fans are starting to worry themselves as they may be losing a few and may not have much coming in if butts and wilkie stay put.

I don't think there is much improvement left when it comes to our floor. Looking at most of our performances, we were quite bottom heavy in the sense that we had few standout performers and not enough stars.

It's good against the bottom sides, but as we saw, that 22 even spread of contributors idea does not hold up in finals when star power is what matters. Too many weak links that can be broken.

I don’t - let him retire an AFL player, rather than a player that played that one season too long and played most of his last year in the twos

I don’t think he will get through another year
I suppose it's a chance to blood someone like Curtin in that position.

We are long past that being an option owing to Curtins run in the middle of the year. Unless you're thinking that we'll draft Coby.

Maybe, but on the flip side, we lost our 1st final by 4 goals and the next one by just over 5 goals. Not a massive margin and we were ordinary in both games. Would AhChee and Stevens make a difference? maybe. Would a Draper with a full season under his belt coming off a big preseason? maybe. Would Dan Curtin with a season in the centre, maybe? Do Rankine and Rachele back in the side make a real difference? maybe. We don't have too many glaring holes other than in midfield, but if you can upgrade Smith, Berry, Taylor, possibly Cumming, replace a rapidly fading Tex with a mobile forward...there is improvement to be had and thats without adding in a Petracca for example.

Well it's Fogarty's big chance to shine if Tex retires.

I'm in the corner that thinks Tex should retire btw.

That would be good. I just dont see a natural Tex replacement at the moment.

I don't either. It's one of the most appealing parts of going for Toby Murray as the Tex replacement, and rotating Fogarty into being that third tall. Try and get around the personnel problem through match ups, alongside a potential fix for Fogs consistency issues (seeing he's a real confidence player at the moment).

There really isn't a natural Tex replacement, and you can't justify going smaller without hitting the draft to get in another gun small forward. Even then, I doubt that's worth it as a direction to go in as Fogarty is nothing if not inconsistent and we want to use Thilthorpe as a 2nd ruck (and having periods of only one key tall or ROB up forward sounds gross).

True, but the method showed in both games we were pretty far behind the best when it mattered. Whilst I do agree there is improvement in this list (and it's probably considerable, seeing Curtin), I don't think you bridge that gap without adding in a Petracca like player or having a kid or two break out into a similar elite tier.

As much as the biggest spike is in cleaning up our clearance game and putting in a big time ball winner.

I agree. Its more that if we can't add one (top end mid), we have to nail the others we bring in so that we are continually improving the best 23 and we need to invest hugely in Draper, Edwards and Curtin next year with the view to having them primarily in the middle with Dawson, Rankine and possibly Rachele. We just have to get our mercurial talents into the guts and if as I have said before, we regress a bit next year while the first 3 develop and learn whats needed there, so be it as the rewards if we get it right and they develop like we hope could be huge.
