Maybe you should nominate yourself for this thread, not for the initial state but arguing the case for it rather than just admitting you got it wrong.

FWIW saying that you want to play for England (not that I can recall him doing that - what a surprise you can't find a link) doesn't make you English.

As for eligibility, quite simply he doesn't meet the criteria. Needs to be born in England, have English parents or grandparents or to have spent five years and been educated in England.

No he is not. Considering it has been confirmed Arteta is not eligible and that article says he is I wouldn't be using that in my defence. And given they've also included Sibierski I'd suggest the article wasn't all together serious.

And you'll note from your google search that you'll struggle to find one of Distin expressing an interest to play from England as you claim. Maybe the internet has been cleansed of all such talk in the interests of security.

I don't remember any of that from the Stuart Pearce days, there was no real prospect of Distin making the squad at that stage anyway if he was willing and eligible ... which he wasn't. A quick google of Pearce and Distin doesn't have anything about him representing England.

And since when does someones manager raising the prospect of someone playing for a country make that person a national of that country anyway?

Englishness was only raised as an issue because of the suggestion that English clubs tend to favour English players for cultural reasons.

So considering Distin's "Englishness" IF it exists is tenuous in the extreme, hardly valid to the relevant situation anyway.

Even if he is technically eligible to play for England according to FIFA, im 95% sure there is an argreement between the home nations which would stop this happening.

and FWIW, if the home nations agreement wasn't in place he'd be just as eligible to play for Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.

Nearly a all English backline but couldnt leave out Gohouri who has leaves more men unmarked than a blind man with a sniper rifle. Distin and Upson remind me of the "let me in here, im XXXX, im famous" type of person, except for them its "let me play, im english". Paul Robinson suffers from midget syndrome both in height and in manliness. Needs a punch

Maxi jumps on his grandmas back at home when he wants to run faster. Delap is in the process of having his contract bought out by Athletics Australia. Wait till you see him in the shotput. Cattermole waits at nearby airports during the weeks of because he misses the feeling of being sent off. Jovanovic stays on the pitch at halftime so he can make sure he knows where the ball is at all times. He wouldnt want to lose sight of it. He also gets to touch it at half time too which is nice for him

Jo hit the post 18 months ago playing for City. He watches it every night before he goes to bed wandering what could of been. Zigic will have "Atleast i was tall" on his headstone I think. 20+ mill has been wasted on him in a career. Thats 100k a cm

He is such a bottler it is unbelievable. Any time the ball is coming to him in the air (and sometimes on the ground) where he might be involved in a 50/50 challenge he always spins around at the last moment and runs behind the other player like the guys going to miss it completely and Keane will already be running onto the ball already. It never ever ever works and is just his version of a bottle job disguised as a move of some sort.

he used to be one of my favourite players but he has ruined his legacy at Spurs.
