Brave effort from the Hawks given they only had seven fit players after half-time while St Kilda fielded an extra three players.

Esoecially when those seven players had all played less than 20 games each.

Not to mention the umpires.

Strange how only Hawthorn players got bumped and bruised during the game.

Please don’t compare the Saints injured players against the Hawks. Aside from Geary the rest are VFL players at best.

Roberton, Steven and Carlisle...VFL players. Yeah, right.

They had one less fit player than us? What the hell are you talking about lol.

Hawthorn will get obliterated next week. Even O'Meara back will not be enough to stop what Geelong is going to do to us. Brandt probably now having to play on Hawkins, and perhaps one of the biggest midfield mismatches of the year, even with the 'holy trinity' largely disbanded. If Danger misses a week, we might keep it under 10 goals.

We currently have a list that needs a near perfect injury run to be competitive, and unfortunately we've been struck down in the area of the ground where we are weakest, and it is showing. We were lucky to beat North, and most teams would have won by a fair margin against us today. We'll probably win some games once the midfield group is put back together, but the first 6 rounds are arguably the easiest block of 6 we'll have for the year, and we really needed to win this one and the bulldogs game to create a buffer for the harder part of the year. Wouldn't be surprised if those two losses are the difference between playing and not-playing finals, although I can also see us falling in a big hole given it looks like we are now testing both midfield and defensive depth after today's injuries. We could easily reach the bye round at 4-7 or even 3-8 given who we play between now and then. We are ok percentage wise so far, but I'm expecting that to receive a nasty blow next week, and in several of the weeks to come.

No you guys are lucky Hawthorn were missing their entire starting midfield. Worpel, Cousins and Morrison have played less then 50 games between them. I mean Mitchell and O’Meara averaged like 60 disposals between them last year and about 15 clearances. That’s a significant loss.

LOL.. So the Hawks had their two best mids out and the Saints had their two best mids (Steven and Hanners) out.

WWSD = definition of a sore loser.

Today it did

What rubbish, a banged up Hannerbery is in your best 22?, I'll give you Jack Steven and Carlisle as key outs. And Roberton for structure but you cant argue best 22 against best 22 you would still win?. Not a chance based on what I saw today. You put Jaeger, Mitchell, Burgoyne and Shiels into the team we win this game easy. Especially if we don't go 2 men down. Be happy with the win but be realistic about the game.
Oh well, such a shame... Guess we’ll just have to take the win then won’t we?

Steven was not selected not becaise hes not good enough. The bloke has 4 best and fairests. If you haven't heard he's battling with mental health issues and has missed a fair chunk of training.

Jake Carlisle
Dylan Roberton
Dan Hanneberry
Jarryn Geary

There's over 1,000 games of experience that would all walk into our best 22.

Keep making excuses old mate.

Hawthorn 'supporters' don't understand mental health. The MO for their club is to hide it under the rug, and then trade the player out so that others deal with it.

The family club and all...

MIRRA dragged the ball in thats HOLDING THE BALL

LONIE minutes later fumbled while
trying to take possession was set upon. NO PRIOR / ball up

CORRECT DECISIONS. Barrett is a flog. and anyone suggests it was wrong LEARN THE FING RULES.

You watch the umpires come
out and say it was correct. sore losers hawks. Saints got smashed by the umps where was certain goal to parker push in the back?

injuries?? boo hoo

we had mckenzie off for whole half.

We were tougher and better. admit it and move on you whinging ****s

Lots of big outs for the Hawks; O’Meara, Shiels, Burgoyne plus injuries to Stratton and Frawley. Good effort from the Saints, gutsy and well fought win but Hawks nowhere near full strength.
Im sorry Geary, Steven, Carlisle, Hanneberry, Roberton not in our top 10 are they.

We were down 1 player for whole second half and were bleeding too. But we were tougher. end of story

WE are going to smash your weak pathetic, range rover driving, ski lodge resort holidaying asses next week.
You wont have the intensity to go with us.
God help you if Geary and Steven are back.

Ha! That’s so good. If we keep the ball off you you’ll lose by 8 goals. You’re predictable when it comes to how you play. Don’t forget we are missing two elite defenders. We certainly have the intensity to go with you. I suggest you watch the two finals we won last year for examples of our intensity. We bring our A game and you’re done by 3/4 time.

Now! And I mean it, congrats to St Kilda. I think they probably won the last quarter and a half
Understatement of the year contender?

Hawthorn scored 2 behinds to our 4 goals 8 in the last quarter and a half!

Only our poor conversion kept it close in the end. We completely dominated general play for that last quarter and a half (during which time we were also down a man on the bench).

And despite the hawks midfield being depleted, they have Rough, Gunston, Breust, Puopolo etc all fit and firing, for our make shift backline to hold up against that is fantastic.

Say all you want, each teams had crucial players out but the saints stood up and just played better for the majority of the game.

We'll see. Melbourne has been weak as water since ron barrassi left. A brief period of toughness late 80s and late 90s but otherwise weak for 60 years.

For all this immense crying about Hawthorn being down to 2 on the bench for a chunk of the game, I just looked at the TOG numbers and Hawthorn only had two who played less than 70% of the game.

Frawley played 31% and Stratton 60%.

While for us McKenzie (concussion) played 33% and Parker (went off with a big limp in the 2nd quarter, but eventually returned) played 66%.

So from a purely rotations POV both sides were in almost identical positions and apparently Hawthorn actually had more rotations than us, so it's little to no excuse.

At least better than you guys.
Certainly afl era weve never been that much of a disgrace. never tanked or lost by 200 points.
You checked our performances in the AFL era? Plenty of finals up to 2006 then a drop off badly from 07-14. Your supporters are still paying out Ross Lyon for wrecking your list after you s**t the bed in 09 and 10 when you were the best team. Yeah you’ve made 3 GF but you’ve been absolutely woeful when it mattered.
