They're both from the Burgess tree regardless.

Though it's a touch ironic that Port won't bring back Burgess but are okay with his students leading the club

That depends, it doesnt sound like the reasone we didn't go for Burgess last time round was his fitness knowledge, but moreso his trackrecord of not sticking around in one place.

Maybe Burgo has the CEO mentality, leave on a high to keep youre reputation at its highest point.
No one bats an eyelid of the continual CEO movement in industry to feather their own nest.

I remember when we used to be a team that was so fit that teams feared us if we were within 5 goals at 3/4 time because we ran over teams regularly

Now we are the opposite. Teams know we are gassed and they run over us in last quarter

We are worse now than when we had Cam Falloon

This guy is horrible

It's really weird whatever they did in the pre-season that resulted in our poor 4th quarters this year.

We were so good in close games over 23/24 too. Our 4th quarter record wasn't elite but we were slightly in the positive those 2 seasons. We never looked unfit like we did this year, where you'd think we lost due to poor fitness.

We haven't been in that many close games because we've been rat-shit so that stat doesn't stand out, the 4th quarters though. We were 7-0-15 in 2011, and 5-2-15 in 2012 for reference. This is the worst season we've had in the AFL for 4th quarter W/L statistically.

I don’t rate our condition at all, but very hard to compare Apples to Oranges. The playing group know everyone has checked out before this season started, the succession plan only highlighted that this year was merely the club going through the motions because it couldn’t/wouldn’t pay out a contract…

We have alot of young players in our team this year, that would increase our 4th correlation of being gassed compared to experienced sides

We shouldn't fall for the mistake of just analysing poor 4th quarters. We have had other quarters where we've been clearly cooked and outrun - particularly early in the season. The Collingwood game in R1 was really bad, we were so far off the pace for fitness, and I think the Saints game about 5 rounds in we were running in mud early.

Then of course, there's strength - pay attention to how many of our tackles get broken or at the very least, don't prevent the oppo from successfully disposing of the ball. The Adelaide game is a good example, where their players were happy to wear our tackle and either break it or comfortably dispose. Meanwhile, when our guys got tackled, they were unable to do the same.

I don't think it was down to technique either, they were just bigger. Look at the size of Sam Berry, and how he broke free a few times.
