Our 2014 midfield ate midfields like our current ones for breakfast. Midfields that were all flash and not much bash. The only midfields that troubled them were ones that could match them in the contest and then get them on the spread. That's not this current group. At least not yet. We get games on our terms through our controlling of possession and ball movement from the back half. It's all general play stuff. The 2014 midfield got games on our terms under their watch - in the midfield.

That midfield didn't let teams waltz out of stoppages (except the aforementioned Bulldogs and Giants, who they struggled against). They made the opposition actually earn all of their clearances and then when they won them themselves they were hard and direct out of the middle, if not always polished.

Lol they are trying to say the umpires were with Sydney the whole night. They are saying the holding back of Papley when he got a free kick was a tangle of arms. Even the commentators on Foxtel said it was a clear free when it happened.

A sprinter running at 10 seconds per 100m would do 2km in 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Also I recall that Erol ran 6 minutes and 6 seconds at the draft combine. So, not so ridiculous.

I was worried what would happen to the lads if other teams tried to physically bully us, whether we'd go into our shells with our midfield outs...BUT every single player stood up & didn't get pushed over by the fake Essendon dogs.
Our players took it right upto them & the couldn't match us, we drove them into the ground with our physicality & brutal 4 quarter running. They simply could not match us.
It was soo good to watch because in the past we've been a bit shell shocked when teams have tried to bully us but not anymore...
This is a warning to any other team, you try that s**t & you better keep it up for 4 quarters otherwise we'll demolish ya.

Made 1 and lost worse than the 2014 side.
The 2014 side had 6 AA players in it which featured JPK and Parker as mids.
The 2024 side at present would have 2 AA players in Heeney and Gulden.
Surely he needs to do a block of running and contact first?
The team is flying high on adrenaline at the moment and some of the posts here are way over the top. We will probably have a mid-season slump at some stage which will make half the posters in here call for mass sackings, but unless we are devastated by injuries we should be there at the pointy end.
Mind you, we have only played 3 games so far, so who even knows?

It's been a great start but keeping it low for now as we have seen the same story before. Great start to seasons followed by a bit of a lull.
It is a hardened, more experienced squad compared to the past 3 years but we will get a good idea by round 10.

Importantly it would be hard to have a better start. We have potential % builders against the Hawks and WCE before we meet GWS in Round 8. We have tougher games against the Tigers and probably the Suns. One game at a time but a very decent chance to be 7-0.
Then the Dockers, Carlton and the Dogs before the second bye. Those 4 games will be a tough stretch. If we're going to hit the rocks you would think that's the time.
Hopefully we keep on keeping on.

this, and its really no surprise. we were the fittest side in the comp in 2022. we ran out games better then any other team and it got us to the last saturday in september.
mainly injuries and zero depth hampered that in 2023 yet we still put in a pretty solid second half of the season.
we've grown a couple of years and gotten fitter now. so oath, we should be the fittest side in the comp.
