Delisted Sydney Stack [delisted]

Sydney’s story to this point of his life has been a bloody hard road.
The questions over his fitness, dedication to standards has plagued him his whole footballing career.
Off field discipline indiscretions have done nothing but take him back steps each time.

I watched Syd in a lot of vfl footy this year and at times looked frustrated and other times looked like he was playing free and in the moment. But this is the issue with syd. There’s mostly been high highs and low lows. He hasn’t been able to find that consistent headspace which allows him to flourish for extended periods of time.

Richmond has shown with Dan Rioli that the club is a great space for indigenous talent to regather their careers and play elite football. This club could very well be the perfect place for sydney to replicate that. But if sydney is not fully committed to the Melbourne lifestyle and wants to return back to WA then I think he needs to move.

His talent has never been denied and could very easily become one of the games smoothest moving, skilful footballers. Still only 22 years old and 35 games under his belt, the potential is still very high.

Personally I would love to see this young man make it.
Yeah i think a club will take a punt if hes free

Hope he gets another go at it.
Been a tough slog for him.
Got the talent. Hopefully someone can extract the commitment required from him.

What happened to Stack? A couple of years ago people were talking about him being a future star. Is it just all the off field issues and attitude problem? If thats the case, surely someone will have a go at him.

Fly and Leppa may bring him over, they would know him intricately.

So much talent just not committed enough. Maybe it will take him going to another club to realise his potential. Tigers have tried.

We didn't have much of a choice.

With the AFL rules around rookies it was either delist, or reward him with a promotion to the main list which wouldn't send the right message to the rest of the group bearing in mind how Syd turns up to pre-season training every year. The lack of desire to hold his fitness levels when away from the club is what has brought him down. Seems to get distracted when not at the club and therefore doesn't put the effort in outside of being at the club. It always means he starts pre-season behind almost everyone else (and why we hear those stories of him vomiting at training every year etc).

If he can fix the desire issue where he could maintain his fitness base then he has more talent than probably half the players on an AFL list in 2023 but the AFL is a tough world, and you need more than just pure talent to make it.

I hope it clicks for him, he seems a really good kid (just gets distracted too easily) and is a prodigious talent.

4 years on the list.

Last 2 years he has returned to the club unfit and taken until about the bye.

Hope he gets it together but he's out of chances with Richmond and I have no idea where he'd break into the team.

You're wrong. Stack has more talent than 95% of AFL players. Just always seems to end up in the wrong place (of field) and professionalism is a real problem. Lot like Stengle.

Once the penny drops he can be a star - A grader.

Club must have had a good look and thought - he just won't change. :(

It will be interesting if Stack needs this metaphorical kick up the ass, to go back to the "normal" grind and 9-5 rat race that most of us go through without the support of an AFL club, to realise what opportunity he had and it clicks that the sacrifices and hard work there are better than his alternative.

That's his only chance of making it in the AFL, his talent has gotten him here, but Richmond couldn't have done any more.

Yep. Relatively common story - heaps of talent, but no application. I fear that Sydney will fall into a larger hole when he doesn't have the club supporting him. Hope i'm wrong, love him as a player.

Don't think he'd be the 9-5 kinda grind guy if he wasn't at a club

He be out enjoying/ruining his life depending which way you interpret it.

At 22 and being very talented i am sure some team will take a chance with him. To be honest with Eddie and Tyson at the Cats i'd even like Geelong to explore him as a player, as talent is not easy to find. As many has posted on this thread, and i didn't realise that was the main issue with him, his post-season lifestyle must see him pack the pounds on a bit and then that would explain why he's not in the Tiger's side early in the season.

Hopefully it might click with him that having been delisted, he would perhaps realise that he may be forgoing an opportunity to make some seriously good money as a quality AFL player, and he might knuckle down. If he can be a [PLAYERCARD]Tyson Stengle[/PLAYERCARD] Mk II he'd be worth any club's time...as i said i'd be really quite happy if Geelong have a good look at him. He's a former team-mate of Tyson too....there's so much potential with Sydney.

Might actually go ok down in sleepy hollow. Less distractions than the bright city lights.
