Autopsy Sydney Swans vs St Kilda. Things you learnt

Just wanted to say we had a fantastic time at the game last night, the Swans cheer squad end was in great form. Aliir Aliir has become an absolute hit with the fans with the crowd cheering and breaking out into song every time he touched the ball in the last quarter. Shouts of “give it to Aliir!” etc. The pride game I personally thought was a great initiative and the smatterings of rainbow around made it feel kinda festive :D

Aliir is the kind of player to put bums on seats and with Buddy forward Swans fans now have X factor excitement machines at both ends of the ground, awesome.

So many positives to mention but it was great to see Hanners lowering his eyes and hitting targets. Also XR has kicked 2+ 4 games in a row now, did Reid ever achieve that?

Best of all, no injuries!

YUCK ! I must have just written about five replies which I deleted. You are braver than I to contribute there.
It's Diversity Round so I guess we all have to show a bit more tolerance to anyone who's a little bit different, like St Kilda fans.

Just went into the saints autopsy thread and have the following to report;

The world is not nice. The AFL and umpires are conspiring against people.

I'm now wearing a tin foil hat, have placed tin foil over my windows, disconnected the TV and hidden under my bed.

On a side note, Saints won the free kick count 19 - 17.

- We would all make a killing selling tin foil on the Saints Board
- Their supporters also executed their fire drill practice in a record time at the start of the last quarter
- Parker was in Beast mode last night
- Aliir's closing speed we know about but to watch it live is something else

If someone had told me before round 1 that going into finals both Aliir and XR would be in the team I would have been a little worried but right now both of them are locks. Aliir has been way better than I ever even hoped for, especially ball in hand as I always heard that was a weakness of his, and XR has gone from being in the delisting discussion to being a really reliable second key forward to help Buddy out. I mean XR has only played 3 games but he has kicked 7 goals. That is a pretty good return.

The key to that is; "at our best". I agree, at our best we should be premiers, but we have had some games this year which cast doubt on this. In particular our ability to win when the heat is on. I hope that form is behind us. My major concern is the Hawthorn . I just have this feeling that on GF day, players like Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Rioli, Bruest, etc are going to fire like they normally do. This is probably their last chance at it and they won't let it slip past them without a fair dinkum effort.
Buddy's reacton to the 50m after the mark indicated that he thought it was pretty soft. Agree that any significant push or bump after a mark should always be 50m.
I noticed they paid a few similar 50's on the friday night so I suspect it is something the umpires were looking at for the week.

9 goals from 4 games by my calculations. Been super consistent since he came in.

Xavier Richards as a forward

Games 4
Ave disp. 11.8
Ave marks. 5.3
Ave tackles 3
Goals 9
Ave per game 2.3

I learnt that for someone who never played forward before the middle of this year, young XR is doing a ruddy good job.

Basically the player we've always wanted Sam Reid to be. Funny how things work out

Early days for XR, sooner or later opposition players are going to do their homework and give him more respect. If he can keep up with the consistency into next season enough to hold his spot then Swans benefit by players trying to oust him.

Yep that's the biggest test for XR when opposition defences realise that he's more than just a place holder and a genuine forward; they'll target him. If after that he can still maintain this output then we've found another one from nowhere really.

I'm just so impressed with Xavier. I really didn't see this coming. I mean we've all seen him take the marks on the lead up on the wing but the thing that really clinches it is that he doesn't get out-pointed when he has the ball kicked long to him. He won't mark it more than likely, but he'll bring it to ground for others or himself - his mobility and dexterity are very good for a guy his height.

So because Longmire can trust Xavier sitting in the square to force a contest, he can release Franklin to push further up the ground like last night and when he does that, he's impossible to stop completely.

I am really looking forward to XR being the 3rd tall as well. When Tippett comes back it means XR will get a smaller defender making him harder to stop.

Buddy is by far the best player in the comp. Hand skills, foot skills, pressure acts, tackling, gut running, pace. The only skill that's less than elite is his marking. Some of the field kicks he laid on were absurd and he keeps his hands high and as quick as Hanneberry.

Can only imagine the stat line he'd put up playing in the midfield.

This may sounds ridiculous, but allir will be rance level very, very soon. Has uncanny ability to get a fist in,beat his opponent and still get the ball.

Not many players would be picked ahead of him structurally
