Pick 7 & 39 to Melbourne
N Jones & B Miller & 50 to Sydney

I believe N Jones will be surplus to requirement when we draft scully & trengove.

I would consider B McLean instead to N Jones

Thoughts.

I'd probably go with that. Pick 7 for Jones is good value (would love to pick up Cunnington there, who knows, maybe Butcher even), and we either trade Miller this year or not at all, won't get anything for him after this trade period.

don't Sydney have pick 6 because i am pretty sure we have pick 7.

Nathan Jones is probably in our top 3-4 players going forward in terms of importance. Clubs would love to get thier mits on him.

Definitely in the untouchable category.

I agree especially this year's draft where it is a weak draft, plus GC and WS coming in 2010 and 2011. Therefore, MFC should keep Jones based on his youth and experience.

Instead of Jones, I would try this deal:

Miller + P Johnson and Pick 18 for Sydney's Pick 7 and Pick 39.
or
Miller + P Johnson for Sydney's Pick 23

P Johnson is included in this trade because Sydney need a backup ruckman for Jolly.

i love it how fans of bottom teams always rate their excesses highly (in this case Johnson) and think other teams will want excesses of a bottom team.

I can't see Sydney giving up early picks going into the draft drought.

We don't rate him highly. We want rid of him because he's crap and hopefully the MFC can pull the wool over Sydney's eyes and they can take him away. Nothing to do with rating him highly.

That's a terrible terrible trade. A Joke trade no doubt.

That's like Sydney offering up Henry Playfair (cause we need a forward) and Nick Maleceski ( a bit of speed) for pick 2.

Sydney won't be giving up 6 unless a Grimes, Watts, Morton, Frawley, Garland are involved.

Nate Jones and 18 is closer but probably still wouldn't get it done.

Malceski doesn't off speed, for mine was a bit of plodder even b4 his knee reco but does have great kicking skills. His spot was ulitmately taken by the quicker but less accurate by foot Rhyce Shaw.

Agree with your thoughts on Johnson, Miller, pick 18 would struggle to get over the line for pick 6 and 39.

I like the idea of trying to steal another top 10 pick of another club for a couple of middle aged fringe players.

But why would any team part with top 10 for fringe players at a club that has spooned for the last few years? AFL trade week is all blow for little action.

Was a tounge in cheek comment should of inserted :p, hence why i said steal and not trade.

wouldn't wanna trade Jones. whos gonna get the ball when Mcdonalds gone?

It would be a shame to see Jones go now when we are just about to launch a future midfield where he could be a much improved player. I think we at least need a year or so to see how it all gels.

I think it would be fool hardy to trade Nate Jones now. We've put the time into him, and with the injection of some serious class around him i can see him really taking his game to the next level.

The player i increasingly see as struggling to fit into our midfield long term is Brock McLean, especially if we plan to take Trengove.

He has been an absolute stalwart of our midfield through this decade but moving into the next, with all of the players we are developing and with the speed the game is played at i think it might be going past him. Sad but true.

Geez if every player who broke their foot and had no pre season, then had an ordinary season got traded then alot of players would be getting traded.
2008- He was our stand out player, then he got injured and had no pre season. Give him a break guys. How come this time last year almost everyone wanted him as captain. Fast forward a year and you all want him traded. Geez, fickle supporters on here.

As for Jones he will step up a gear with alot more class around him. I have no doubts about that.

Plus the one thing I find remarkable is that everyone is assuming we are now going to get Trengrove and he is going to be a star. He may well be a star, but lets wait and see first.

I'd be very disappointed if we considered trading Brock. He's been running on one leg this year, give him a chance to recover and get a pre season into him and he'll be back to the form of old.
Remember that this guy donated $10k of his own money to 'debt demolition'. He bleeds red and blue. I think he deserves the right to given a bit of time to get his body right, to then so his full potential.

Dear Richskee,

You made a good point. I don't think McDonald will be there in 2011 plus the draft picks GC and WS is getting. I think Jones is NOT worth trading.

you would like to think that moloney, mclean, valenti are all good enough to cover the potential loss of jones and mcdonald. sylvia is also quite a good 'in and under' player. if you remember in 2003 everyone was calling the dee's a 'soft team' ..(Which we were) and as a result imo we went through a extended period of recruiting tougher bodies like moloney, read, mclean, pickett, sylvia, valenti, jones.

a trade involving jones for a pick/player wouldn't be the worst thing. In saying that, jones is a gun and you would need to get a great pick or player in return. You would want a quick youngster who can kick or a proven older player.

He doesn't have the visible leg speed, but McLean is every bit as important as any of the middies we have. He can accumulate and makes good decisions.

That and he is open to giving us cash.

It might be wise to trade Jones if we get a great offer.

With McLean (I'd retain him before Jones just because of his passion for the club and ability once he's fit), Moloney, Junior, Dunn, Sylvia, Valenti and Scully + maybe one or two more from this year's draft, our stocks of inside mids are pretty good.

If we elevate Valenti and get a late first round pick for jones, effectively we'd have Valenti doing what Jones does (which I think he's capable of) with an extra first round pick to hopefully grab a KPF which is an area of greater need.

Be a tough call but we have to make tough calls to succeed sometimes.

Some epic fail trade ideas. Sorry, but keep it semi-realistic if you're wanting pick 6. We wont trade it anyway, but even hypothetical trades should be kept in the realms of possibility.
