I see your point but I suggested the extra two delistings of Ham and O'Brien because I think they are absolute list cloggers in terms of having AFL futures. I would rather take the risk on a drafted kid and if he turns out garbage as well you can drop him next year.

Kav and Pears would also be on short notice but don't need to be dropped yet as both have AFL qualities.

O'Brien is an accumulator with no damage factor and Hams is an inside mid who weighs about three kilograms. Don't need.
You're effectively trading out 2 guys with limited future for 2 guys with limited future on 2 year contracts. You can drop a rubbish kid next year because of that 2 year contract. 2016 is going to be a deep draft, we should be keeping our powder dry until then.

Apart from anything else it wouldn't hurt to see how some of our lesser lights perform under a new coach. We might be pleasantly surprised, especially given our apparent tendency to mismanage players.

Unlikely unfortunately. Doing my PD right now though and there are a lot of academy picks that get removed before then, though.
Actually gets pushed up to 47 if the draft happens the way I think it will (with Academy picks), so will get one of them I think.

Unless there's another Irishman that we want on Category B, it's a waste. McKenna is a good prospect but taking the conservative route would be more beneficial to him and the club IMO.

For me we delist Hams, Kav, Stein and Pears. Then go to the draft with:

DFA: Cameron Giles

ND:

4 (Francis)
5 (Weideman)
24 (Lovell)
25 (Partington)
57 (Hartley)
77 (McKernan upgrade)

PSD:

4 (Coghlan)

RD:

4 (Parella)
22 (Tipungwuti)
40 (Wallis)

So overall that's:

OUT: Chapman, Winderlich, Pears, Melksham, Carlisle, Steinberg, Giles, Kavanagh, Fletcher, Dalgleish, Hams, Aylett
IN: Leuenberger, Bird, Giles, Francis, Weideman, Lovell, Partington, Hartley, Coghlan, Parella, Tipungwuti, Wallis

Just not sure on Weideman at 5. I know we need a tall forward but i see Curnow as less risk and less time to get him going if is up to it.
The rest works for me although i have seen bugger all of Lovell so i can not really comment either way.

Fair enough, I'm 50/50 on them tbh. The other will likely go to Melbourne at pick 7 anyway haha.

Get Curnow... Can Mitch brown nominate for PSD instead of National? If so are we more of a chance to nab him there?

No, only current delisted/leaving AFL players can solely nominate for the PSD/RD.

Our KPP situation is bloody dire and I hope the club recognises it. We have:

Hurley
Hooker
Daniher
Gwilt at a stretch (undersized)
McKernan, who is largely untried and unproven as a key forward

That could go pear-shaped very, very quickly.

Ideally we actually need both Brown and Hartley. If we could grab one in the PSD and one with #57 it’d be a huge win

EDIT: looks like PSD isn't an option!

PSD is an option, just highly unlikely either will get there.

With the Academy picks ahead of us I actually think we'll get one of them, our pick 57 is likely to move up to about pick 47/48.

Jack Package mentioned a guy called Ubemeyang (sp?) as another mature (20y.o) KPD who may be around later.

The other is the Weribee kid, 20 year old red head, Wilson of the Jake variety eth-dog?

Other options than Brown/Hartley.
Wilson is an impressive VFL player but I'm not sure he has the tools to make it at AFL level.

I think you're thinking of Uebergaeng there mate.

Managed to mash him up with this bloke Yoda_ ...

Ridiculous Mitch Brown isn't a free agent, in fact it's stupid that anyone 24 or over that is not on an AFL list isn't a free agent.

Because the draft should be for the young players only. Should be as easy as possible for club and player once they are mature age.
Nah. Most of the time mature aged players get where they want to anyway.

There are two aboriginals that could go top 25, Wayne Milera and Daniel Rioli.

Callum Ah Chee, Jade Gresham, Stephen Tahana. Keep half an eye out for that last one especially.

Matthew Uebergang. Mobile tall that Brisbane overlooked last year, he went back to his NEAFL club and they switched him into defence and he basically became their go-to key defender in his first season of senior footy.

He's the option in between an 18 year old and a Brown or Hartley.

Post trade period, this is what I'm expecting. Further delistments of Steinberg, Pears, Hams and Kavanagh.

Defence

Tall/Medium defenders:

Cale Hooker, Michael Hurley, James Gwilt.

Good top end, needs depth. Expecting to draft/DFA a young key defender (like Giles) and draft someone Michael Hartley from the VFL.

Small defenders:

Mark Baguley, Martin Gleeson, Michael Hibberd, Jason Ashby, Alex Browne, Brent Stanton

I think this is a good group but in order to move Browne up the ground I'd like to bring another HB into the group. Tipungwuti fits the bill

A good starting point, but 2 key defenders and another half back back is needed for me.

Midfield

Inside midfielders:

Jobe Watson, Zachary Merrett, Nick O'Brien, Dyson Heppell, David Myers, Heath Hocking, Ben Howlett, Craig Bird.

Very slow outside of Merrett, needs a lot more speed running through there as well as depth ahead of O'Brien and Howlett.

Outside midfielders:

Brendan Goddard, David Zaharakis, Jackson Merrett, Travis Colyer, Orazio Fantasia, Adam Cooney.

A lot of experience and good pace among this group, but again needs a little more depth with the closest thing to an outstanding endurance being Jackson Merrett.

Needs a bit more pace in the inside group and a bit more endurance in the outside group but can be fixed later than the other issues on the list.

Forwards

Small Forwards:

Nick Kommer, Shaun Edwards, Jayden Laverde, Kyle Langford. Rookies: Conor McKenna, Jake Long

Very promising group. Edwards, Laverde and Langford could form a scary combination inside 50 in the future as mobile 190 cm forwards.

Key Forwards:

Patrick Ambrose, Joe Daniher

Very weak area, Ambrose has had a poor year and Daniher can't do it all himself, although Hooker could be thrown forward. Needs at least a young KPF and a mature stop gap right now, possibly Mitch Brown from Sandringham.

Needs a lot of work in the key forward stakes, but has a lot of promise in and around this group.

Rucks

Ruck

Tom Bellchambers, Matthew Leuenberger

Need another developing ruck here, like this as a potential combination.

Forward/rucks

Shaun McKernan

Had an excellent year, finishing 10th in the BnF from 9 games. Will be good to see how well he plays next year.

Need a young, developing ruck but otherwise I think we have a good group here.

Overall we have 9 spots on the list left (6 senior, 3 rookie). I think we attack the rest of the off-season like so:

National Draft:

4: Aaron Francis (192/88 def/mid)
5: Sam Weideman (196/91 KF)
23: Kieran Lovell (174/80 IM)
25: Luke Partington (182/75 IM)
57: Michael Hartley (200/102 KD)
80: Shaun McKernan (upgrade)

PSD:

4: Daniel Coghlan (185/85 IM)

RD:

4: Jordon Bourke (193/88 KD)
22: Anthony Tipungwuti (174/79 HB)
40: Tom Wallis (182/77 OM)

I like those rookie/PSD picks.

Just on Coughlan have no idea about him but it seems every man and his dog on here wants him. I thought he was a midfielder but then i swear i saw he was around 196cm or something. Is he a key defender?

Extremely worries about us kicking a score next year. Bloody wouldve been handy getting Tory Dickson right about now.

Outside 40 odd from Daniher i just cant see them. Obviously a game plan change might help but we dont have many guys capable of hitting the scoreboard consistently.

I think thats why it would be worthwhile picking up S.Yarran even though at 26 on the cheap. Very dangerous and capable small forward who can also play 1 out and get the ball on the lead.

just cant see Mckernan, Langford, Laverde, Colyer, Z.Merrett, Zacka kicking many

Considering we are about to go into the 3rd season for a 3rd coach I'm not confident in us stopping scores either.

With you on the Shane Yarran front. Could be our very own Tory Dickson -- considering Dickson played for our vfl team, what a ridiculous thing it is that that is now a sentence -- but I'm a little bit worried about whether he'll be able to cope with moving interstate. I think Freo/WC are in the best position to get the most out of him. Not too concerned about age since he's likely to be a rookie and is a forward pocket type.
