Two very promising Key Position Defenders.
Fans from both clubs are claiming each to be one of the better young KPD.
Both have had some big scalps.
I havent' seen enough from MacKenzie, so until then my vote will be reserved.
Tayte has just turned 19 last month, while MacKenzie is turning 20 this year.
Who would you rather have?

Actually a pretty good comparison.
With both players taking big scalps, they're certainly going to have long futures at their respective clubs.

i havent seen too much of mackenzie, but i like the look of pears better because he is quick, strong mark and not afraid to take players on.

Also mackenzie's kick to Kieren Jack doesn't help him much.

Really happy with Pears, claiming some really good scalps, not just keeping them low on the goals tally but just in the way he goes about it as well. However the wraps on MacKenzie from out west are also very high, so both clubs should be happy. With Pears and Hurley, as well as Hooker and Daniher hopefully we are strong in this area for a while to come.

Interesting timing when a lot of football followers would have noticed Mackenzie for the first time this year because of his kick to Jaack. :D

But Mackenzie has been excellent, 3rd in 1%ers for the league (would be first if he didn't miss a game), a few inconsistent performances from a younger player but he has stood up really well.

I've seen a bit of Pears also, he's been impressive, but not as good as what I've seen from Mackenzie this year.

E-Mac ...

Pears is another typically overblown, overrated Essendon youngster who will probably end up having an ordinary career.

In 2 years time, E-Mac will be leading this poll no question, by a considerable margain (bookmark this post :D)

You're a sad case Celtic, your opinions on Essendon just don't matter.

Pears will be a gun. Not so sure about Mackenzie.
i agree, even if you have an unfortunate username lol

mackenzie may end up having the better career ... but pears will sure beat the shit out of any youngster you've got coming through that can play back.

He'd be starting full back in your pathetic backline.:o

Good to see voting for Pears doesn't consist of mostly bomber fans.

Oh wait..

Anyway, I'm happy we have Mackenzie. He's a dead set gun.

I wouldnt have thought a Carltank fan could have a crack at anyone about overblown, overrated players.

MacKenzie besides the sydney game has been a fantasic player for us, people should see his other games first before making judgement on him, He has a great future ahead and looks a perfect fit down there in the backline.

Couldnt say that pears has done to much wrong at all looks very good along with hurley bombers backline looks pretty good. To be honest both will be very good players for there clubs.

Just had to add i love the look of zaharakis is going to be a gun very good pick up he was.

Impossible to really rate defenders the way we can rate forwards/rucks/mids

What do you rate them on

Defensive ?

Offensive ?

My criticism of Mackenzie (and it has been since he was drafted) is his intensity, not in a way that he is soft, he is the opposite, a genuine inside key defender with magnificent body work. It's probably not until you have watched him for 10+ games that you start to see the patterns emerge.

I would take Hurley before Mackenzie but I doubt I could find enough between Mackenzie and Pears to justify a swap.

Emac.. have seen a bit of Pears and Id rate Emac at this stage higher.

Interesting the complete lopsided percentage, probably due to that kick v Sydney being the only time allot of people have seen McKenzie.

Pears and McZenzie? Both very ordinary with little skill or upside.

Shows how far ahead the Demons are of the other rebuilding teams when we have a bunch of key defenders better than the two in this poll.

Colin Garland, Kyle Cheney, Stefan Martin, James Frawley....

Its almost unfair.

Yes, Melbourne are so far in front of everybody else - hence they are looking a rabble at 1-8 and with that magnificent defence conceding the second most points in the league at this stage.

Essendon, sitting comfortably in the top 8, with 5-4 and having conceded the third least points in the league at this stage.

Melbourne's team had an average age of 24 years & 97 days on the weekend, Essendon had an average age of 22 years & 361 days. So don't use age & inexperience as an escape plan. And that is without Michael Hurley, our #5 draft pick from last year who was recruited as a key defender and touted a successor to Dustin Fletcher, who unluckily has only managed one game and kept Tredrea goalless. Tredrea had an absolute day out against that same defence with so much apparent skill and upside only weeks ago.

It's almost unfair.

I try to stay calm and collected when I read a crap post. But this is so ****ing stupid. Why the **** would you even bother typing that shit? You obviously have watched neither play. Now run along little one and enjoy the bottom of the ladder.

wow don't you seem familiar ;)

Your one win this year must have made you feel proud

The man does have a point though, Frawley and Garland are going to be absolute guns.

In terms of this poll, I have seen some of Pears and have been quite impressed with his efforts, so I think Essendon has found someone they can work with there. I haven't seen much of Eric, apart from that awful turnover, so its difficult to say which one is better. As such, I will not be voting in this thread.
