Yeh I don't think we are likely to see a "new" face this year either (the exception possibly being Buckley although I am not in favour of this.) We have done a lot of that over the past 3 or so years. We are now at a spot where we are challanging for a flag and not blooding new players and while we are succesful I think the current squad of 30 or so that is being rotated through will be kept.

It's not like we are not developing players Beams, Maccaffer, Dawes, Ried,Sidebottom and Brown have all had roles to develop and played big parts in the side. We have a very versatile squad of players ready to go and I am not sure we are going to go outside that unless someone absloutely deamands it.

As it is there are guys like Barham, Goldsack, Tarks, Anthony who are genuinely good players who have not managed or only managed very little time in the seniors.

Cheesy O'Bree Finished?

Interesting with Just Ball in the Side we looked better without O'Bree in the Side.

Think O'Bree is Finished and did look not up to it at VFL Level too and is too slow

Unfortunately Dave, I agree.
It's not necessarily a bad thing though.... It means we do not need to rely on these old guys anymore and suggests that the young guys are starting to really come on.

I hope O'Bree gets the credit he deserves though as he has been a fantastic servant to the club!

He is not totally finished but I certainly don't think he in our best 22 at the moment. He center square mid or bust and the fact he has been used on the foward flank concedes as much. I personally would to see him used purely to help maintain Ball. That is when Ball is rested O'Bree comes in. I still would like to see Ball rested possibly this week. He is too important for us to have him playing to sore later in the year.

Depth is important and should Ball get injured it is important for us to have the option of O'Bree playing well.

O'Bree is depth now. I still think he is a good replacement for injuries if they occur at inside midfield or to let other guys have a rest. He's not done yet but the writings on the wall I think for Cheesy.

I think that sums it up very well

I have noticed a few posters have made the comment that with O'Bree in Pendelbury seems to have less influence. Don't know if this is right or not but if add the Ball factor then depth only, same as Lockyer. In saying that we are very fortunate to have 2 200+ players ready to step in if need be.

Should onyl get another game if Ball gets injured, and even then he should be competing with J.Thomas and Blair

I'd see him getting at least a few game simply to keep him match fit, perhaps give Ball a rest at the same time and to ensure can cover injuries to Wellers or Ball as you stated.

Not finished just yet, but needs to get back some form.

I disagree with Lockyer being depth... he kicked 32 goals last season, and can be relied upon for his accurate disposal and the fact that he'll kick 1 or 2 a game and set up another 2 or 3 directly.

Being kept lout by good form by senior players at the moment yes, but solely depth, no. He's still in our best 22.

Plus give our VFL Side some Good Experince with Lockyer and O'Bree there

Yes I agree thanks for correcting me but if he is being kept out by good form by senior players isn't that what depth is. I agree that if he was in the first 22 and playing good footy then someone else would be out, so if that doesn't make him a depth player then so be it

Is Ball insurance for this year, but if we are going to make a pitch for another player during trade week, O'Bree might find himself usurped by J Thomas, or possibly Blair as support for Ball in his role.

I guess you're rkight, I was probably confusing depth player with bit player... you can't really refer to anyone in the 22 at the moment as a depth player until they get dropped so I guess you're right in that sense.

Why would Ball just be Insurance for this season?

Good thread, it's like Dave's own blog on the Collingwood board. :)

Like that but Interactive

I tend to think that Rounds may debut first, because we have more options at half-back and traditionally that's been a position of strength for us, which might work against Blight. I know Blight is capable of playing in the midfield or wing, but I suspect MM will want him to start out off half-back playing a role similar to BJ given his capacity for run-and-carry and long, accurate kicking.

Could Blight come in the Queens Birthday Game as BJ Seems a bit out of form at the Moment

I wondered about beams too, I guess he thought he couldn't make the distance, but I was surprised he didn't have a go at it.

Why did Beams did not have a Shot for Goal after the Final Siren vs the Dogs?

Going nuts on the bolded headings Dave.. keen :thumbsu:

It would probably be better if you reduced the size of you headings a touch Dave. It makes them harder to quote.

Why did Beams did not have a Shot for Goal after the Final Siren vs the Dogs?

Something like that might be better.

He was beyond his range and probably so relieved to hear the siren he just wanted the game over.

Maybe he doesn't know how to kick a torp properly as well?
