RD 20 Flogging of the Bombers Rant

Pro's:

  • Dawes Game was very Good
  • Blair was Fantasitic
  • Cloke Kicking 5 Goals
  • We Totally Dominated the Bombers

Cons:

  • Should of Won by 100 pts
  • Bad Umpiring of Holding the Ball
  • Game was Too Easy
  • Medhurst was Terrible
  • Lockyer is about Finshed

Great summing up TD.

Dawes' tackle was a definite highlight for me, as was Blair's run in the first and his mini-hanger later on.

I think the umps are now well on to the tackler holding the ball into the tackled player, so they're reluctant to pay those ones like they used to.

Putting a line through MM's comment how he takes responsibility for Medhurst's poor game last night, about how he left him in the VFL for too long, you could say the same for Tarks also possibly.

The change in intensity just takes a couple of games to readjust to.

Houli vs Carlton last week another example of this.

Bodes poorly for Fraser coming back in aswell, but, Blair certainly hit the ground running when he started up in the seniors

Haha, too easy! At least we can't blame that on anyone else but the bummers.

Don't agree Medders was terrible, just not quite back to his normal touch. You'd expect 1 or 2 more games at AFL speed rather than VFL and he'd be good to go. Tarks isn't finished, just that last night wasn't a match you could properly test his ability against a quality opponent.

98 is close enough to 100 isn't it? :)

Could we change the title of the thread to the Dawes Update?

You certainly have a man crush on him Dave:)

Sherriff ... agree with Medders... thought his game was poor.

No excuse for those terrible handballs straight to an opposition player ON HIS OWN

and that goal he stopped of Leroys when he was hungry for a mark and goal

I actually thought the umpiring was brilliant last night, especially in the first half.

They paid 9 free kicks in a half, reminded me of the first Coll/Carlton match this year, the best umpired game I have ever seen.

If every game was umpired like the first half last night I'd be wrapt.

Unfortunately the umpires went into their little room at half time and looked at the stats, because they paid a heap more frees in the second half, as they paid 17 free kicks in the second half.

Overall, the umpires had little impact on the match though, which is what you want to see.

Agree... and thought a couple of decisions that they turned around and allowed common sense to prevail was good for a change.... Like the pre whistled mark I think it was Pendles and he clearly did not hold it

Only two things in life a certain, taxes and Dave mentioning Dawes in every one of his posts :)

GOLD!.

Medders was always going to take a few games to pick the speed of the game upand regain his touch. He'll play next week.

Tarks looked similar with touch and intensity of the game. He'd be the 1st out of the 4 inclusions.

I think one of your only real worries going into sept is your kicking which of course a near 50/50 Goals to points is ok with 20 goals but if (and of course atm its a huge if) a team could shut you down to 10 or 12 a 50/50 would be disastress.

What gets me is why Didak lays off so many Goal assists when he is probably close to your most accurate goalkicker particually left inside the 50. He doesnt miss many

I think the answer lies in seeing him last night when he was angry at Wellingham not using the best option for goal at the time which was himself clear 25metres out.

Didak will always look for the best option first.

I think that is fairly harsh on Medhurst, his touch was poorish and he made a couple of errors but some of his chasing efforts where good and there where certainly signs of what he is capable of the tackle, retrive and perfectly weighted pass to the top of the goal square was one, the great overhead mark another.

Dawes was good, I think the big thing that has won me over with him is his willingness to swallow his pride and not put marking the ball first, it was more evident last week but a couple of time last night to when he was outnumbered you can see he kinda just goes up and makes getting the ball "out" of the area of the defenders to create a "good" spillage.

I know this is your thread Dave but I want to add a CON of my own, I thought Didak's attitude and arrogance last night was pretty unacceptable. There where three real moments that summed it up for me,

the first was when he was running foward into the 50, he was probably the best option but the handball didn't go to him, the play still resulted in a shot but it missed. Didak stopped and gave a massive spray to the other boys which was just not needed and not acceptable it was pretty selfish and hot head stuff IMO.

The second was the "ball shimmy" to Slattery, Slats had done a really good job on Didak in the first half and Didak was clearly frustraigted but there is just no need to be such a childish git, especially when up until that point he had been beaten.

The third was the face slap, we where smashing them and Didak had fought back in the one on one match up but it wasn't like he had dominated the game again just arrogant and childish IMO.

See my post below I hardly think Didak would have been angry had the option ignored not being Didak himself the motivation for the spray was selfish and not team orientated IMO.

Well I think that Wellinghams action was not team orientated and deserved to be addressed by a more senior player ... Didak or not

And Wellers by the way is one of my favourite players

That is okay and you do have a Point on Dids Arrogance but with Slattery it put us 100pts up:thumbsu:

Didak does need to pull his head in and play some team footy

Dave, have you been overseas for some plastic surgery recently? :p

NOPE and I don't want Dawsey looking at me like that;)

:p

Shawthing raises an interesting point re Didak. I too thought impulse behind the spray was justified, but Dids should have been more discreet.

Perhaps behaviour such as the ball-shimmy and caress just goes with the brilliance.

The shimmy was fine. That gesture with the ball, the spray he gave a team mate weren't cool at all. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't pulled into line over that. Mind you i've done far worse when i've been having a shit day - maybe that was all it was. He's always been an arrogant little git (in a lovable way of course) but that stuff was different.

As a PRO i'd say we have a lot of comptetion for positions in the team which can only be a good thing heading into September. I just don't know how we are going to squeeze everyone in - we can't. There will be some unluckly players come finals this year.

This time Last Season.....

We had just Smashed the Tigers by 80 Something Points but in the RD 21 vs the Swans our Form went backwards and we never recovered for the Finals.

Hope that not happens this season

We seem to be a different beast this season TD. Last year we started slow and flogged ourselves to catch up into the top four. We arrived at the end of the season running out of steam and playing players injured - Swan and Davis as examples.

This year we have done the hard work early. Our form has slowly been getting better. We are in a position to manage our list better by resting players - Davis, Goldy and Ball this week.

You're right to say its a concern but we seem to be doing the right things this season.
