Ryan Cook is just a VFL Player

This guy Exactly like Danny Stanley, Great VFL Player but will Never,Never Eeeeever be any good at AFL.

Will be De-Listed at Seasons End and May or May not stay on the VFL List.

RD 12 Draw with Dees Rant

Will make my Rants in Bullet Points:

  • Our Goal Kicking was Pathetic and we be lucky to be Top 4 if we keep it up
  • Toovey is Useless and Holding the Side Back with his Shocking Disposal and we beaten today
  • We have been biten by the Injury Bug
  • Presti is just about Finshed
  • Good to see Dick played Well and Actually Kick Straight
  • Steele and Pendles where very good
  • Our Zone seems to not been working very well lately. Need to go back to Man on Mam
  • Have a Tough Game coming up vs Swans
  • Never Play Leroy "The Scrub" Brown ahead of Dawes AGAIN
  • We where Reactive instead Acting 1st
  • McCaffer is adding nothing to the side

My 3 Votes for Pies are:

3 Votes - Pendles

2 Votes - Dick

1 Vote - Steele

Another scapegoat  Overall they weren't many players that were good that day

No true match up for him. We choose to play him against a small forwardline but leave him out against Geelong. Where's the logic in that?

I have noticed that too. We let them come up to the forward flank where we zone and rebound off our backline. The easiest way to get around this is by playing which is what Melbourne did.

Pretty harsh really. Leroy deserved his chance but Dawes will come in

I agree to that

I think Caff isn't doing anything good or bad but he's not adding much as you said

Thats been pretty obvious for awhile now. I was surprised he didn't get the chop last year tbh.

I think winning the B&F in the VFL might of saved him but it had not with Other Players.

Not sure about his Contract Status though

None of our set shots were difficult, the issue was we had so few of them.

Most of our shots were snaps (as against geelong, as against st.kilda and against brisbane), and as such are generally under pressure.

Yes it would help to center earlier, but our side would be cut to pieces if we play corridor centric football, what we need to do is play on after a mark, not stop prop, look sideways, backwards, forwards then go forward. It doesnt matter if your moving up the flanks, the wings, the corridor any where if you move the ball ****EN QUICKLY. We had plenty of opportunities to do it and we flatly refused.

The whole you must play the corridor and just the corridor shits me, you have to move the ball quickly down any part of the ground. If we played the same slow style yesterday but went centrally we would still get cut up

A belated reply here.

I have a feeling that we're lacking the fitness required to play footy at this pace. For the last couple of weeks I've felt we've looked flat and have tired towards the end of games. I know we can do it, as we turned it on for the Dogs in round one, but I doubt we're capable of playing this style of game for 4-5 consecutive matches. I think the tank is running on empty at a bit at the moment and we desperately need the break.

Peoples thoughts?

Simion Buckley Waste of a Draft Pick?

Been Very Dissapointed in him. Done nothing Special in my Eyes in the VFL and got himself suspended for 3 weeks for a Very Stupid Act. He Might get a few AFL Games but I can't really seeing helping us.

Here are a Few Players we Could of Selected instead of him:

  • Micheal Barlow
  • Dylan Grimes
  • Jack Weston
  • Joe Dare
  • Levi Casboult
  • Matthew Panos

I think Cook is a worse player than Stanley and as Quicky has said I think it's been obvious for an extremely long time he was a VFL only player.

He has had some issues to deal with a pick that late is never going to be expected to walk straight into a side performing this well. On that list on Barlow has shown anything to suggest he is an AFL player the rest you have listed because you liked their right ups from u/18's last year.

Buckley could still have an impact for us in 2010. We are a contender and depth is important. Hopefully he can play some really good VFL footy get himself in the side for a couple games so we know if he is needed he can step in and play some sort of role at senior level.

If not as I mentioned on Barlow is a loss and I just don't think he was on our's (or anyone elses for that matter) radar besides Freo and good on them for taking that risk and getting that reward.

Well the Other Players I like and I am not the only one who would go off Write Ups and The others we where linked too.

Simon can still have a Impact but I just don't think he been that good in the VFL.

I would give him another season to see with a Full Pre-Season with us could he improve. Still young at 22?

My point is we took him with a pick that is very speculative. We got a youngish player with AFL experince and upside (meaning if he works out he can have an impact in 2010) We sacrificed a bunch of kids many who where undrafted most of whom are equal or less of a chance of having any impact at AFL level and certainly almost no chance in 2010.

The only exception to that is Barlow and I just don't think anyone else was willing to take the punt on him. Well done Freo.

Fair Enough and that's why at 1st I liked the Pick. He was 21? and played AFL with the Dees and showed Promising Signs.

Watching him at VFL games he does nothing that Excites me and does some stupid things that is really frustrating

I don't think he will turn out to be a waste and I think possibly late this season and maybe early next season he could get some opportunities.

In my phantom draft back last year I had Luke Ball at 30 and Michael Barlow instead of Simon Buckley. Would have been interesting had things worked out that way :D

Also this is my blog with the players at the time of the draft that I would have selected. Will update yearly with then also update hindsight.

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/blog.php?bt=2975

Some of my selections are doing reasonably well. Matthew Panos who effectively was my Sinclair alternative who I loved at the time is dominating in the VFL kicking bags every week. Might have been a possibly KPF answer. Hartigan who I had in my rookie draft also is playing well at VFL level, playing solidly down back. Grimes who was my Buckley alternative still has a fair way to go but I rate him and still do for his attitude towards his footy.

In hindsight Michael Barlow would be an obvious one. Myles Sewell should be drafted next season and could turn out in hindsight to have been a strong pickup. James Podsiadly another mature age draft pick who we certainly could have benefited from adding. Perhaps Majak Daw could have been an alternative to Simon Buckley and he might very well develop into a monster next season.

From the draft my favourites always were: Josh Thomas (looking like a strong midfield prospect for the pies), Troy Taylor (Had a questionable start to his AFL career), Jack Fitzpatrick (looking like a great prospect for Melbourne), Matthew Panos (showing great ability and potential as a KPF at vfl level for the Western Bull Dogs), Luke Tapscott (Melbourne - has been injured), Ryan Bastinac (had a great start to his career and always through he would be a value pick), Ryan Harwood (Has been looking like a strong midfield prospect for Brisbane), Jesse Crichton (Still developing for Fremantle).

I was just wondering why did Chris Tarrant got Trade to Freo?

It was the right choice for both parties. Chris had hit a wall and wasn't enjoying the pressure from the media (by all reports) I don't think it was a decision that was made easily for either but in the end both parties wanted to move on. As talanted as he is I doubt he'd still be playing AFL if he was still at Collingwood. Chris got a new club and eventually got back into some really good form. We got the pick that turned into Reid as part of a draft in which we built our spine for the future. Freo got a very good footballer. We also got Medhurst who was on the way out at Freo and turned out to be a very good footballer. He got a second chance and turned his career around and Freo used a player who would have probably been delisted to help secure a player they wanted. In hindsight Freo over paid but in general it was a good trade all round.
