MELBOURNE
B: Matthew Whelan, Matthew Warnock, Jared Rivers
HB: James Frawley, Stefan Martin, Aaron Davey
C: Jack Grimes, Colin Sylvia, Brock McLean
HF: Cale Morton, Brad Miller, Russell Robertson
F: Brad Green, Matthew Bate, Cameron Bruce
Foll: Paul Johnson, Brent Moloney, James McDonald
Int (from): Ricky Petterd, Addam Maric, Nathan Jones, Jamie Bennell, Mark Jamar, Kyle Cheney, Clint Bartram

In: Rivers, Frawley, Green, Bennell, Jamar
Out: Lynden Dunn, Shane Valenti
----------------

Some very good ins, Green, Frawley and Rivers are all named so we can expect them to start.

A lot of good players on that bench too, perhaps Bartram, Bennell and Jamar to miss? Hard to see Cheney being dropped, he was alright.

Worth noting, bar Col Garland, that is probably our strongest back six at the moment. Will be good to see them all out there come Sunday.

.

Happy for Dunn to get dropped, but Valenti is stiff. Great to see some big ins there, we really should push the Hawks on Sunday if we play with the intensity we showed against the Dogs.

With Frawley and Rivers back, that will release Martin to back up PJ, so Jamar can get some fitness at Casey.

I'd like the final bench to be Maric, Jones, Bennell and Petterd

Geez, it is becomng a pretty hard side to get a spot in all of a sudden.

The 4 on the bench may come down purely to who is 100% fit. Although Jones and Maric should be automatic.

Our backline last week made me realize we dont have a much depth in the back half as I once thought we did lose two backmen and look what happens.

I think three of your starting KPD is a big loss for any club, no matter how good they're depth is. Don't forget McNamara is still coming through.

Massive call fairtex.

We where missing our 3 best defenders (Garland, Frawley, Riv). Take Buddy, Roughead, and Mark Williams out of the Hawks forward line and i'd back the boys that were on the park last weekend.

All the same that side is starting to look delicious

Bailey also decided to stop playing funny buggers and named a realistic squad positions wise. No Jetta in the back pocket or the like.

Bartram (provided he's playing) to takes Mitchell

Martin on Roughead
Frawley on Williams
Rivers/Warnock on Franklin

Rioli will probably play through the centre, in which case i wouldn't be surprised if he goes head to head with Davey. Whelan to pick him up in defence

Sewell to pick up Green in the midfield and Brown will take him if he moves forward

Jones, Cheney, Jamar, Maric for me.

Bennell stiff but what's one game in the VFL going to hurt?

Haven't minded Petterd this season either but somebody's got to go. And if I was Dunn I'd be ringing up my agent and telling them to find me a new club next year - he gets absolutely nothing from our coaching staff so why bother?

Valenti a bit stiff, and i worry about Bartram's position aswell since he is the last name on the extended bench. Not a good omen.

If Jamar is anywhere near fit he and Jones have to be locks on the bench.

So it comes down to:

Maric V Petterd - the return of Green puts me slightly in the Maric camp

Bennell V Cheney V Bartram - If you play Bruce as a backman you can then include Bartram as a tagger which might be my prefered option. For a spot in the back pocket I'm favouring Bennell, he may as well go straight back in the side. But it will be a hard choice to make. Will Frawley and Rivers both be right to play?

Bailey has said Jamar is most likely going to be playing at Casey, him being picked in the squad just seems like Bailey having some fun at selection. If he was going to be picked I'd say he would have been in the starting 18, instead of an extended bench.

I'll admit that I'm not the biggest Valenti fan going around but why play him as a floating half forward with about 5 minutes in the midfield and then drop him?

Jones, Cheney, Jamar, Maric should be on the bench IMO.

However, I have a feeling Jamar won't play and therefore Bennell/Petterd will.

Bartram is the only one I can confidently say I don't think should be in the 22. Good to have some competition for spots.

Matchups:

Whelan on Riolo - Matty is still as good as always. Seldom loses a contest. Should be great to watch.

Warnock/Martin on Roughead and Franklin - Rivers loose man helping both out.

Frawley on Williams - Chips could win this contest.

Mcdonald on Mitchell.

Have to play Bartram. Stick him on Bateman and don't let him get more than a metre from him at all times. He always kills us.

Hawthorn have named 2 ruckmen already and Campbell on an extended bench i feel we need Jamar only if he plays 40% game time to give johnson a chop out. Bennell in for Rivers or Frawley if they are late withdrawals Maric very stiff to be dropped, i prefer Petterd due to his versatility but that decison could go either way.

Good luck to Beau Muston 3 knees recos all the best to the kid!

how did jack grimes go last week ?

25 tocuhes at 96% effeciency, so i would say pretty dam good.
