Re: Changev V Melb

How come people don't post the opposition side?

Re: Changev V Melb

I'm comfortable with those changes.

I'd have liked them to have retained Varcoe, but i can see why they've made the change.

Great to see Simon Hogan again on the emergencies list.
If Gary didn't come up i would have loved to have seen Hogan given a taste of senior footy, but his time will come.

Re: Changev V Melb

What was the point in bringing him back at all? He's hardly going to keep his spot so why not give Varcoe another week?

Just to give Varcoe a rest so he can find some form in the VFL maybe? Lets not be too quick dismiss Byrnes inclusion, he might do something this time...:(

Re: Changev V Melb

What makes this worse is that Byrnes was average at best in the VFL, having shown absolutely no sign of improvement to his goal kicking.

FRUSTRATING!

We are playing the 16th team this week - if he can't find form here, he won't find it in the 2's.

Travis is gone for the year, I only hope we do not suffer injuries that see Byrnes in the team for longer than a week.

Re: Changev V Melb

Boo-yrnes is back????? :confused::mad::p:(:thumbsd::eek::eek:

Funny, i just now was reading the end of "The Mission" and had a laugh at the part where they are discussing what to give the kids on the Grand Final dias as the premiership medals are handed out. Apparently after the 2006 Night GF was won, Boo-yrnes didnt shake the kids hand (was the only one) on the podium and the club received complaints all week after. Sad, but had to laugh.

What opposition? :p
I can't believe that at the TAB they have given you guys a +60.5 point start this week.... then again the way you guys have been playing that's not even a handicap is it?

Re: Changev V Melb

I'm sorry, but I just cannot imagine Hunt starting at CHB.

I was really hoping that they would try one of the young talls from the VFL at CHB. What is there to lose at this stage of the year when playing the league cellar dweller?

Ablett to make Friday night return
Tom Peeters 5:01 PM Thu 07 August, 2008

Champion midfielder Gary Ablett will make his return to the Cats line-up for its Friday night match against Melbourne.
Also coming into the side for the Cats is goal-sneak Shannon Byrnes.

Ablett has missed the last three weeks with an ankle injury sustained in the Round 15 match with Fremantle. Despite the extended lay-off, Ablett is still currently the favourite with bookmakers for this year’s Brownlow Medal.

Making way for Ablett and Byrnes are All-Australian backman, Darren Milburn, who faces a week on the sidelines after pleading guilty to a rough conduct charge arising from last week’s win over Richmond, and small forward Travis Varcoe.

The Friday match between the Cats and Demons will begin at 7.05pm, meaning it will be shown live on Channel 7 immediately before the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony. Preceding the Cats vs Demons match will be the annual Cordner-Eggleston Cup match between rivals Melbourne Grammar and Scotch Grammar. The game will begin at 3.50pm.

Re: Changes V Melb

I'm not in the anti SB corner despite his kicking. Would love him to hit the form he showed in a game at Skilled last year (can't remember which now) - almost BOG. He was also =BOG in VFL a month or so back. Great backup for Stokes if he can lift.

Don't think Varcoe is gone yet - selectors are giving a few different players a chance as interchanges until they have to make the big (interchange) decisions come Sept.

The way the team is named on paper has nothing to do with the real structure.

Wouldn't he be better described as a "point sneak" or "behind sneak". The second one has fairly average connotations though...
