With Crowley injured and Pratt and Head in the 23 travelling party to Qld, it's fair to say there will be just the one change.

Possible line-ups?

B: Hayden, Tarrant, Grover
HB: Dodd, McPharlin, Suban
C: Ibbotson, Hasleby, Hinkley
HF: Thornton, Pavlich, Mundy
F: Solomon, Murphy, Peake

R: Sandilands, Schammer, Duffield
I: Hill, Johnson, de Boer, Head
E: Pratt

Yeah, I wasn't sure about that one and have discussed it in the Pratt - elevated thread.

Basically it came down to who else we had. Even if he's just the emergency he still has to be on the main list.

Could take any of Gilmore, Drum. COuld have elevated Pearce. I think he'll play. Can't see us playing Head. Or maybe the thought's just too horrible.

Carlton are going to belt us. We are coming up against a midfield that will make ours look like a third world country. The other issue is they have a few players who won't mind lining up our younger players so let us hope we get through it unscathed injury wise.

Unfortunately we won't win. We never get up for player milestones unless they are leaving the club and they are shaun mac. I haven't watched a single eagles game this year so I'm just going on the fact that they beat the bulldogs and we didn't. I think they will win by 40 or so.
:(:(:(:(:(

I don't think we could have seriously taken Drum or Gilmore.

From WAFL Undercover.
GILMORE AND DRUM UNDER PRESSURE

WAFL Undercover has learned both South Fremantle and Perth have had discussions with the Fremantle coaching staff to tell them unless Daniel Gilmore and Marcus Drum start performing more consistently, they could be facing stints in the WAFL reserves.

Perth coach Andrew Jarman has questioned Drum's willingness to work hard enough during games and his lack of intensity, and had he not had a strong finish to Sunday's game against East Fremantle would have seriously looked at playing him in the reserves this week against Claremont.

As for Gilmore and South Fremantle, his inconsistency has been a long-running issue, although did himself no harm in the eyes of the Bulldogs after soldiering on despite a bout of illness.

There is an arguement for Pearce but I would prefer him to work on his fitness at SD where he would be guaranteed healthy game time.

So you are tipping Freo? Come on now.
Carlton are shit. Their midfield is overrated. We've held our own against better midfields with single paced plodders and short people like Hasleby, Carr and Bell as our main midfielders.

I don't think we've got a better than not chance of beating them, but I'm not going to be a sooky-lala about it like you.

Maybe something was said on the quiet to Thornton whilst he was back in the WAFL because he has been fairly serviceable since coming back into the senior side.

I have to say i've been impressed with him of late.

I don't know which direction we'll go but I agree with Memories - after the impact our young players have been having, Carlton will attempt to rough them up.

Head isn't the ideal option but he may be preferable to yet another rookie in what promises to be a physical game.

Disclaimer: I'm not advocating his selection, just hypothesising on the selector's way of thinking.

I'm not having a sook about it though, just being realistic. If you don't think they will beat us, say you think Freo will win. Obviously you think Carlton will win so it's kinda moot arguing about it isn't it.

With Crowley out we don't have any decent taggers and if you have been watching Carlton you will see that players like Murphy have come on very well. With no one to cover him or Judd we are going to get done hard. Stephens and Hasleby will likely cancel each other out, but the others will burn us.

Being beaten and being belted are different things. I think we're in with a chance to win, if we play well. You don't.

Who will rough them up? Carlton are softer than butter.

The weagles kicked like 9.20 against us. If they hadn't been so shit converting they would have easily belted us, their midfield dominated for most of the match.

Then compare the weagles midfield to Carlton. I think if we play at our absolute best and Carlton play like absolute shit we will win. However if you average everything out we are going to get belted. I play the odds, I don't play faith.

Yeah sorry gravy - forget the part I wrote about "what promises to be a physical game". The emphasis should be upon the "attempt to rough them up".

O'hailpin will be given some advice pre-game. Same with Carrazzo and Scotland. If Cloke stays in the side I'd expect he'd like to make a statement - if not then Hampson. I wouldn't classify these guys as hard men but I reckon they will be the main instigators.

9.20 isn't indicative of how many goals they could have scored. Our problem was that we couldn't clear the ball out of the backline. So a behind scored by them resulted in further scoring opportunities, one after the other.

Had they converted it could have been a different story.

Carrazzo is as soft as butter! All those guys are weak as piss. I reckon DeBoer is harder than any of them.

The team looks set, just Pratt in for Crowley.

I don't hold much hope for this game, Carlton would have to play well below their best I would think. Which could happen ...

I think we need to tell Solomon, Grover and Dodd to go out very hard, try and keep it legal but if they get suspended or give a few free kicks away then so be it. Sandilands as well, smash some short people at the stoppages for a change. But he can't get himself suspended.

If they are going to pick on our young players, we should also pick some targets. There are plenty of options such as good players like Murphy and Stevens, or their middle tier short people like Carazzo, Betts, Joseph, Houlihan and Simpson. Quite a few of those players appear like they might start crying if things get too tough. Maybe also get Tarrant to challenge Fevola to a battle of the superminds. After the carry on over the Warnock saga, I kind of hope the game has some venom.

Yep, we need to send a message out there that we dislike people like Warnock and Carr. If we get a few players suspended/fined who cares. We will likely lose this game, but if we come out like we did against Geelong at skilled and rough them up we will win the overall battle even if we lose the game.

So if we manage to win the reason is Carlton played like shite?

Any team that loses a match you can say that they did not play well. If we come close people will probably say that Freo nearly got there despite Carlton playing poorly.

Carlton are not playing to what they are perhaps capable of (or they are over rated). They got beaten by Essendon (on the big stage), they nearly beat a Hawks outfit which has been playing like crap.

They have beaten Richmond and Brisbane (close match) (MCG and Etihad) big deal.

So I think we do have a chance to beat them going head to head. The better team on the day will win. No excuses from either team. Simple.

I am tipping Carlton, but I believe it will be closer than some make it out.

They beat the Bulldogs, but they have been shit in the past three weeks.

I think Carlton are hugely oversold. We're still crap, and there's every chance we'll get flogged, but there's just as many chances we can win.
