Yeah very surprising selection after last weeks effort. Not sure how Browne and Head inparticular are getting a game before Broughton and Walters and naming Thornton is not going to help our cause. Solly will come in for Browne IMO.

I havent got a problem with Browne playing.

Way too conservative for my liking considering we're supposedly trying to rebuild the team.

Exactly if we are going to gift games to guys who haven't got any form coming into the game then why bother....

I can take playing the kids and losing.... but if thornton, head and browne all play and we get thumped.... thats just plain silly from my view.

Couldyou play any bettermoron
Yeah... I reckon most people on this board could. Without the bleeding arse and about a 10th of the price as well.

Seriously... we are going the tank aren't we?

We just don't look like turning up at all this year.

Lol. We'll find out whether this is some gigantic hoax soon enough, Souths play the Demons tomorrow at Freo oval.

Fremantle
B:
Dean Solomon, Michael Johnson, Luke McPharlin
HB: Josh Head, Antoni Grover, Steven Dodd
C: Rhys Palmer, Paul Hasleby, Garrick Ibbotson
HF: Paul Duffield, Chris Tarrant, Byron Schammer
F: Brett Peake, Kepler Bradley, Matthew Pavlich
Foll: Aaron Sandilands, Ryan Crowley, David Mundy
I/C (from): Marcus Drum, Scott Thornton, Nick Suban, Ryan Murphy, Stephen Hill, Roger Hayden, Andrew Browne

Those 3 will SURELY miss? Hayden still not ready, the hard surface of the Dome wont be helpful for him. SURELY Thornton is a late Aprils Fools Joke (which isn't funny btw) and Head.... Really.... No thanks!

FFS that's basically the same team that got pounded last week. Thornton better not play he was horrible in the WAFL last week. Josh Head being named on the field doesn't that usually mean there not going to drop him if so wtf he should be the first to go. I doubt Hayden plays this week but I really hope he does we need some silky skills. Also still no Hinkley very disappointing.

If Thornton or Head get a game, that is an absolute digrace and rewarding less than mediocrity :thumbsd:

Browne is borderline... but i would still rather a younger Hinkley in the side, who is about at the same level of skill and guts.. but 5-6 years to improve...

I found it amazing that Thorton got another 2 year contract at the end of last year. He certainly is the golden boy down there. I thought he was just Connolly's favorite but obviously not.

He must use Jedi mind tricks.

If there is to be only one change...Who do we kick out...Head or Murphy?

Personally I would prefer to see Murphy go, at the very least Head looks interested.

Preference is for both to go, if I only get one...Murphy it is.

Is it a case of giving Head and Spud a couple of games to settle and prove themselves. And if (when) they dont then it is goodbye. Obviously the coaching staff know a lot more about these guys then we do, so maybe it is a chance to have one final go at showing they have what it takes. Harvs and Co obviously think these guys have talent, it just hidden very (very) well.

I am just glad the flying elbow is back....hopefully he keeps his wings in this time.

I'd rather see Head go. His kicking was absolutely shocking and has caused numerous turn overs that have resulted in the opposition goals last week. I agree that Head looks more interested but we cannot afford to have someone with such a poor kicking playing anywhere within 1km of our backline. If Harvey does not drop him I'll get confused what he was on about when he talked about players not getting selected due to the number of turn overs they cause and not hitting targets???

Who do we replace Murphy with? If McPharlin does not go forward and as terrible as it sounds he is our 2nd best forward.

Gee Mark Harvey's making it hard to like him, absolutely shocking selections.

Even if he's not going to play wouldn't it be worth having Broughton in the 25 and taking him across as the emergency?

The match committee's 0 from 2 in 2009. :thumbsd::thumbsd:

In the feverish stupour I find myself in today, I watched a replay of the game this afternoon to see if maybe what I thought from watching live was wrong.

All it did was prove beyond doubt that Head, Dodd, Browne, Murphy were massive liabilities. I completely forgot Murphy was playing until the third quarter. The others were at least involved, but the more they touch it the worse it is for the team. Clearly not the right players to take us forward. Crowley was awful as well, but can't drop everybody.

From that team you can almost guarantee that Head and Dodd will still be playing. Only in will be Solomon, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was for one of Drum, Hill, Suban. Not happy at all. The problem is, I can still see us winning with the teams selected, which will be justification for playing these guys.

I stopped reading your post because it was so quotable right there. Thought the same watching at home.

My theory is Harvey knows guys like Thornton and Browne aren't gonna cut it in a premiership side whereas guys like Hill, Suban, Broughton, etc. might. Harvey also wants his side to have a strong mindset and be able to deal with anything put infront of them, so instead of just chucking the kids in when they havn't earnt it and therefore risking making them lazy players, he's playing the hacks for now and hoping the kids will be knocking down the door later in the year and they'll be better for it.

Why do people keep saying this????? Just because Harvs & the selection panel are "in-house", so they see "all the inside stuff" and they "know the players much better than we do" DOESN'T mean they are above critique. Nor does it mean we have to 'trust' them. Einfeld was a judge, Burke and Joh were Premiers, Bondy was a rich bugger, and Tiny Pinder was a basketball star. Look where 'trusting' them got us...

Indeed, some might say that most leaders (including CEO's, coaches and generals) tend to over-commit and over-invest emotionally in certain strategies, and therefore stay wedded to their 'game plan' (and locked in to certain personnel) longer than an objective outsider would.

Seriously, in your work environment, think of the "in crowd/boss's favourites" and ask yourself if a new manager took over, no matter who they were, how many of the in crowd would be kept around long term?

(**Note:self employed persons with no staff, or Big Footy posters who are actually CEO's or generals, may have difficulty conceptualising the aforementioned hypothetical. If you are such an unfortunate individual, just nod and say "BPG is a Brilliantly Perceptive Genius". If you are a farmer, just think of the sheep).

And FFS, how many "final goes" do the fourth year fringe freaks get?? Does anyone really, seriously think we will get 150 games out of Head, Murphy or Thornton?? At least we have a chance of 100 or 150 games (for Freo) out of 1 of Broughton, Hinkley, Hill, Suban, Hall, Ruffles or Clarke. So why keep playing the depth third and fourth year players???

And what do we say to the kids who keep going hard but missing out?? Can we really blame Broughton, Hinkley, Clarke, Hall or Ruffles if they chase the dosh on the Gold Coast in 2011/2012? Lord knows we won't have to worry about Head or Thornton getting offers from anyone...

I would like to Hinks and Broughton play at least half the games this year.

Deboer and Hall maybe 6 games would be a good start

Add these guys to Palmer, Ibbo, Mayne (if fit) and if Hill and Suban play at least 15 games, this gives us a good nucleus for a shit hot future midfield in 2-3 years. Like to see Pearce upgraded after Round 11 as well

Hallelujah!! A fellow traveller in the land of the future!!

Amen, brother!!! I too have seen the light!! And the glorious, glorious light is purple!! But such a yuuuuuuung shade of purple (and green)!!

And if even 1 of Drum, Clarke, Bucovaz, Balla or Pratt actually turn out as 100 game forwards or backs, even better!!

Course, the way selections are going at the moment, 2012 could well be the year we 'celebrate' Thronton's 150th, Murphy's 100th and Head's 50th games...

Yeah, all those blokes who have been going hard for what, a full 1 week now in their entire football careers since being drafted must really be taking it tough.

Some of you blokes need to calm down a bit - its only the first game of the season ffs. You can't play all your draftees in game 1 or 2, I have no doubt they'll get their chance this year.

FWIW I hope Solly comes in for Head (or Murhpy, damn he's useless), and of course Rog if he's fit, which I doubt.
