First Class bowling average of 26.49, batting average of 30.91.
What are we missing here?
Bobby Simpsons daughter scenario?
I've heard it's because they don't think he does enough with the ball.

Allegedly, issues with the Captain.
As for Puddings Cosgrove, he might've changed since he left SA, but the issue wasn't just the fact he was fat, it was that he was a fat dickhead.

If you rather a keeper that doesn't drop the ball, then I would still drop Haddin.
Cosgrove wouldn't be any worse than most of the guys in our top order. CA blew it though. They should have had Cosgrove playing test matches years ago but they we're too obsessed with fitness standards and marketability. I dunno about you but I would take a fatty who can make runs over the more athletic soft ***** we currently have.
He might not be any worse but nothing suggests he would be any better. Where was he on the run scorers last season- not near the top that is for sure.

Lol. Fail.
He was second on the list with 784 runs at a tick below 40.
Are any of the young keepers (Whiteman, Triffitt, Ludeman etc) sufficiently brilliant with the gloves and passable enough with the bat to get a look in at the Gabba? A test average of 30 would suffice.
I'd rest Harris and make no other changes, why bother? If Khawaja fails to perform again at least we know he's ready to be sent back to the Shield. I can sense a little of Warne/Cullinan in the air each time Swann comes into the attack so I expect Khawaja to fail in the final test. But that's beyond the point - lets see if he does or if he can dig himself out of it.
Warne in
Lyon out
That's all I could do
Which isn't great when a 39 year old Ponting thrashes you on that list. If he was any good he would have made 1200+ runs minimum. To be honest that is what every batsman should be getting. You average 35 in FC level...well we might as well play Cowan...he averages 30 in tests!

So by your logic we should select nobody?
We do have to field a team you realise?
Sounds like a good plan, but I'd also be happy to find a long term option and let them develop into the role. As long as they are incredibly good behind the stumps and have the ability to grit out an innings in difficult circumstances.I would see who is the best out of Hartley, Triffitt and Paine in the start of the season. Wait till after the Ashes and then put the best one in.
My point is there is ZERO point selecting an average FC player (Cosgrove) when we can already select average test players. It is up to the current group of Silk, Burns, Maddinson, Doolan, Keath, Bailey (# maybe) to churn out 1300-1500 runs this season.
At the moment I would not make changes with the exception of Khawaja.

You expect Keath to be capable of 1300-1500 runs this season.
K mate.
Never said I expect him to, but we shouldn't be picking players who make less than 1000 runs this season.
Fear we'll be forfeiting matches then. Slightly flatter pitches should be implemented, not roads, but fair tracks which make the bowlers work hard and allow the batsmen to play long knocks if they apply themselves.
