Test Cricket Draft

'sif Vettori wouldn't bat ahead of Boucher. 'sif Vettori wouldn't be captain. Your side is weaker for it. :D

Richards' lack of a long Test career was terrible for cricket. Obviously nothing compared to the travesties occurring in South Africa at the time, but a shame nonetheless. Love hearing him commentate, very wise, when he's not whinging about the umpires.

I'm a traditionalist - the wicketkeeper almost always bats at 7. If Vettori was a better batsman he would go to 6 and I'd play a specialist spinner. If Boucher was worse with the bat then maybe I'd consider it, but then I'd probably select a different keeper.
Captain Vettori wouldn't have it in him to rip the opposition's head off.
100% agree on Richards - the South African team of that era was something special.

Jeff Thomson
Jeff-Thomson-of-Australia-001.jpg
Bringing in Thomson as my 12th man gives my side the added depth needed in it's bowling ranks. It also creates the mouthwatering prospect of reuniting Lillee and Thomson - Australia's feared pace duo. A man know for his genuine pace created by a trademark slingshot action, Thomson had batsman on the backfoot from ball one, before more often than not finishing with a "sandshoe crusher" and dismantling their stumps. He finished with an average of 28 and 200 wickets.

....and rounding out the 12 is a huge steal at this stage of the game, Bill Lawry's largely contrasting partner in crime...

Gordon Grennidge. Arguably the most flamboyant opening batsman of all time slots in very nicely beside the corpse with pads, WM Lawry. 108 Tests in one of the two greatest units ever, 7558 runs @ 44.72 in an area dominated by the bowlers. 19 tons, 34 fiftes and a very handy 96 catches. Had all the shots and never afraid to unleash. Also a very tidy Test bowing economy rate of 0.92, if we need to tie up an end. 16 one-hundred run opening stands with Desmond Haynes. Just a lazy 93 and 107 on debut.

98 Tests - 405 wickets @ 20.99
Amrbrose desperately unlucky, Cairns' kiwiness the only thing keeping him in the side.
We will call the MCG home and have Victorians everywhere baying for the blood of our opponents.
Curtly will do the off-field duties sich as kicking in the door of the other dressing room in order to taunt them, dealing with unruly opposition supporters and laying down some nice grooves on the bass at intervals.
Warnie and Cairns will bring the masses of groupies they have accumulated over the years for all to enjoy.
Azharuddin has plenty of contacts in case one feels the need to place a small wager on the outcome of the match.
Chappell will use his powers to completely mind**** any Indian players and supporters we may come up against.
Bill has been told not to bring his pigeons to work an will handle our media commitments.

There is no way that team is going to gel as a unit. Aza will have something to say to Chappell, Samaraweera will react when Warne brings up what he thinks of Murali's action, everyone but Lawry would question Warne's captaincy. A bunch of egos waiting to clash if you ask me. :p

I'm confused. Aren't some of your Victorians never to be Victorians actually Victorians? :p

It's from a 12th Man bit where Bill is being his usual self and pulling himself over Warne. In honour of this, the rest are honourary Victorians. Myself, have never set foot in the dump.

Personal hostilities between my players will only make them more fierce on the field and ready to destory whichever teams have Tendulkar and Murali.

**** the rest of you picking the best players, I'm picking an actual twelfth man. someone who is the complete team man, selfless enough to be 12th with a smile, but do a huge job for the team when asked to pull on the whites. Holds the record for the most appearances as twelfth man for Australia, and I dare anyone to say they don't have a soft spot for the great man. Adequate pace bowler, handy with the bat, and always gave 110%.

Miss the good ol' days of going to untelevised, well-attended domestic one day matches on a Tuesday night with Bich and Kaspa charging in from opposite ends.

83 Tests. 6097 runs @ 48.77
29 wickets @ 35.48. SLAO
Dhoni coming in at 6 may make the batting lineup appear weaker but the boys bat right down to Marshall at 10 which will make up for it if Dhoni does nothing. Reid, Benaud and Vaas all have Test hundreds to their name and Marshall knocked up 10 50's in his career. Richards obvious choice as captain as he never lost a Test series... therefore by doing simple math we can conclude that this team cannot be beaten because of that fact. Marshall and Vaas will take the new ball with Steyn at first change and Reid there for an extra pace bowler, Richie will take over as the pitch dries with help from a jar of vegemite if he needs it. Pup Clarke will arrogantly strut around as 12th man, offering the players nothing as he brings them drinks, as a decent fielder though he may be snuck on often.

51 matches - 200 wickets @ 28 (BBI 6/46)
The Torz XI is complete and what a team! I'm actually quite happy how it turned out considering the difficulty of a draft in getting the players you'd like. My strength is clearly a brutal middle order of Ponting, Tendulkar and Lara (not to mention De Villiers who might end his career at the same level) as well as strong, contrasting opening pair. My attack features plenty of pace with the guile of Kumble as good support. The obvious change I would make is to bump AB up to 6 and swap in Thomson for Dilshan giving me the Lillee-Thomson combo. :)
The only thing that I would like to add to the squad is a genuine all-rounder, most of which went early whilst I went for gun specialist batsmen/bowlers.

Alan Davidson
F6kGQ.jpg
The successor to Lindwall, Davidson was a similarly graceful new-ball bowler with a fearsome wicket-taking ability and excellent economy. Also quite a show with the bat, and an exceptional fielder, Davidson could happily replace anyone in my team if need be, without making my team any weaker for it.

A bit premature I guess but.

Best team (other than my own): Glinn MGraw
Best bowling attack (other than my own): Noobz0r
Best batting lineup (other than my own): Glinn MGraw
Best behaved team: stevemac/Noobz0r
Team I'd most like to party with: DrVanNostrand
Most likely to lose to the Redbacks: MG MG or a very busy Imran Khan
Most hours of study wasted on this thread: stevemac
Best player not selected: A West Indian. I'll wait a bit before naming but I'm surprised no one's taken him yet.
