Injury TEX WALKER

PCL or posterior cruciate ligament, Is the ligament running down the back of the knee there to stop hyper extension of the knee(knee bending the wrong way) . They are tricky I know this because I tore mine some time ago without realising. Literally in for a cartilage clean up and post surgery Doc asks me when I did my PCL and I couldn't answer. Was also told that unless I could think of a valid reasons to have it repaired they (military) were not going to bother fixing it as I could do without it.

Doc Larkins just said on 7 that it has all the characteristics of an ACL. Praying its not.

However if it is could he possibly go LARS?

Would have to be really bad luck for that to be the case, they said during the game that the Adelaide club doctor seemed to think that the knee structurely felt okay.

Look we need to wait for the scans. A supposed top specialist in Adelaide missed my ACL injury clinically - almost fell off his chair when it came back as a complete rupture on MRI (and the GP at Falls Creek, who the specialist didn't believe got it right the first time). Clinically knees are difficult diagnostically - what looks like a severe injury can end up a strain and vice versa. If I was betting (which I don't), on the basis of the footage (which is unlikely to be reliable) and the fact he walked off the field I'd guess a strain - but high risk of being wrong. I don't think its an ACL - possibly PCL but hope not.

When I fully ruptured my ACL on the basketball court..I could bear weight and walked off court.
So never can tell, although I knew something definately was not right.

Hope Tex is back soon..gun player!

ACL injuries are weird things, sometimes the ligament can sit in a position that still gives the knee stability, players have even played for a few weeks after tearing it.. Then it moves a slight bit and there goes the stability.. Scans are the only way to truly know..

Monday is too far away, watching Tex play is an added bonus to watching the team.. Will be devastated if it's bad news..

Yep agreed. Maybe wishful thinking on my part!!

Sincerely hope its the best news possible. not just for you guys but footy in general. Game needs characters. Not to mention he is a throwback to the old school Full Forward and great to watch. Hope he's back on the paddock and fully fit in as short a time as possible.

If it is an ACL he wouldn't get the LARS treatment. The timing is wrong. Wouldn't be back until the end of the season anyway.

Carl the clinical decision will be based on what is likely to achieve the best result, not the timing for a footy season!! Assuming at this point that surgery is required, LARS may or may not be the preferred option. LARS is not the panacea that so many footy people seem to think it is. Research as to outcomes long-term in elite athletes is not there. And depending on the nature of the injury, unless the surgery is perfect, because of the use of artificial fibres, the knee can feel too tight post operatively. A traditional reconstruction can be the preferred option. LARS is not suitable for everyone. So the decision will be made on whats best for Tex, not the footy club!

Same here, as much as I wasn't to see opposition players hurt in the context of the game, I never want to see them injured.

Unfortunately, clinically sometimes the knee can feel structurally OK straight afterwards yet the knee can still be quite badly damaged. An old GP at Falls Creek who sees these injuries on a daily basis for 4-6 months a year, said that clinically they are tricky immediately post-injury. He said the swelling can actually support the knee function initially. When it goes down any damage becomes clinically clearer. Some ACL/PCLs are obvious immediately post-injury and some aren't.

As much as we all love to hate each other on BF, I do feel for you guys. Watching what happened to Walker, I just remember how we all felt when Robbie Gray did his knee about this time last season. It's a really sickening feeling. Hope things take a turn for the better for you soon.

Can you post a link please? Can't find it. :)

Said it on 5aa, apprently they have a good source in Melbourne. Although i wouldn't have thought the swelling would have subsided enough if it is ACL/PCL, they both usually cause a fair bit of swelling, for scan's to have been done last night.

Spoke to phil harper this morning at the family day. Won't have scans til tomorrow. Rooch as usual is full of shit

I'd be ignoring anything coming out of the media until the club makes an announcement, they love this speculation bullshit. Hopefully it's nothing too serious and he's back on the field soon :thumbsu:

Umm... what are you talking about? Of course it is a major factor.

Why would anyone rush back with LARS to then sit out for 6 months before Round 1?

They wouldn't. Whereas players who hurt themselves during the preseason are increasingly looking at the LARS option.

Preseason injuries like Otten with the full 12 month rehab are career-destroyers. You effectively don't play for 18 months which as we've seen with Otten leaves you a million miles behind the eight ball and sets you back years.

Heard Sando on the Show at 11am C9 said he has no idea.

Technically still listed to play next week he said.

The media has gotten to the point these days where they cry 'ACL!' whenever a player falls over his own shoelace. Everyone seems to have the need to be the "harbinger of doom" in this day and age, wanting to get in first with the worst possible scenario etc - not sure why.

Hopefully the scan shows anything but the above scenario for Tex.
