That 70's thread

If you mean this literally - as in, you were a Sharp - then I'll be sending you a PM. I'm half-way through writing a book on the Thomastown Sharps (and Sharp gangs in general). Over the last 6 or so months I've managed to track down and interview most of the core members of the gang. They've given me full acess to all their photos, too. Just writing up their stories now. I'm happy to count the famous "Bowie" as a good friend these days.

I'm looking for an old friend "Bowie" real name Phil...wondering if it is the same one.
I can't wait to read your stories.
Cheers,
Carol

The "Bowie" I speak of is not a "Phil".

Sorry.

So many "Bowies" running around.

They should form a supergroup.

You're not serious, surely?

It was garbage.

The look, those flares...very 70's ...didn't say anything about being my favourite but you can't deny it didn't encapsulate the 70's.

But here is my throwback treasure that can't be mistaken as garbage..

I give You CLOCKWORK ORANGE

Masterpiece. :thumbsu:

Unbeknown to many, before a fresh-faced Irish lad named Feargal Sharkey came on the music scene in the 80's to sully up our collective consciousness with his "Good Heart" and crappy music, young Feargal had already fronted a punk-ish rock 'n roll band named The Undertones back in the previous decade.

As it happens, The Undertones were a pretty cool band. They also left behind one of the greatest "underground" singles of the 70's.

The Undertones - "Teenage Kicks"

And following the above train of thought, this track for me would have to just about be THE definitive underground single of the 70's.

Killer song that fully deserves its hallowed status.

The Only Ones - "Another Girl, Another Planet"

These films were a worthy diversion, but now back to some 70's music.

Another of the great local (but originally NZ) bands of the time, Mi-Sex, fronted by the late Steve Gilpin. Had a number of hits in the late 70's/early 80's, but I reckon this - But You Don't Care - is far and away their best. Just a classic.

Living In The Seventies, Horror Movie, Ego (is not a dirty word), Million Dollar Riff, Blue Jeans etc...songs that have aged well.

On the subject of movies, the band also gave twisties a plug  :D

lol...and for all these years I thought my Bowie was a one of a kind.
He was a sharpie back in the early 80's inner city Melbs. Still continuing the search.

ciao for now,
Carol

I've never seen that.:thumbsu:

Zappa was a genius.

I managed to pick up the re-release of Baby Snakes recently. Check it out.
Yeah got the Baby Snakes DVD.

Zappa's work with Captain Beefheart early on is good too. The Lost Episodes has some Gold. :thumbsu: Hot Rats is classic, late 60's.

The 70's also saw the emergence of The Other Elvis.

Wow, a double-banger from TOD. Not only the classic Oliver's Army, but also the clip from the Kenny Everett Video Show. Absolutely sensational.

I see that there is also a "Cool for Cats" clip from the show on YouTube. Now going back to search for Kenny doing Brother-Lee Love and Sid Snot ...
