Would be good for United to get some creativity and steel in the middle, although I reckon SAF is happy enough with his options there, if all fit, and taking into account the arrival of Kagawa. Typical Fergie. As long as there are options out wide he is a happy camper. Anyway...

Next year they will probably look to focus on that area in the hope that Scholes and Giggs are good enough for 25 quality games each, Carrick maintains sone form, Fletcher comes back into the squad and Anderson is over his injury concerns. Throw in Cleverley and hopefully Kagawa and the depth in the centre is ok if all fit. That is a big bloody if though.

With Giggs and Scholes departing at the end of the season and the possibility of Fletcher and Anderson not coming back properly and Carrick getting on, United could, in a worst case scenario be left completely ****ed in the centre of the park come the end of 2013 and heading into the transfer market needing to purchase.

On the flip side holding out until next year could mean that there will be more value in the market considering the UEFA fair play rules require clubs to balance their books. Clubs can still use a 38.5mil pound safety blanket this year but as of next year I think this goes. Chelsea look to be getting as much of their spending done as possible before these rules fully kick in having spent almost 200 million pounds since June 2011 and City have been City but won't be able to meet the rules from the end of this year if they continue in the same vein. Neither club has the financial capability to meet their current spending rates via commercial income alone. Despite the debt United still spent over 50mil last year and made a small profit despite spending significant $$ in managing debt thanks to their far greater income derived from commercial operations.

They're already in place such that any losses incurred in the 2011-12 season count towards FFP. Essentially if any clubs are flagrantly breaking the rules then by the 2014-15 season they will first have their squads cut from 25 to 20 players, then if they still refuse to match the regulations the following season they will be banned from UEFA competitions altogether. Man City are going to have to pull off a miracle to comply.

The 2011–12 season is the first season which counts towards the 2014–15 assessment. Clubs, however, will be allowed to make a loss of €45 million (£39.4 million) over the three years, falling to €30 million from 2015–16 IF the loss was covered by equity contribution only. The first season that UEFA will begin actively monitoring the financial situation of individual clubs is 2013–14, but this will take into account losses made in the two preceding years (2011–12 and 2012–13).

Not taking wages into account? The Liverpool players you've mentioned are on 50-60k a season whereas the Chelsea players would all be on 100k+ with Hazard probably well over 150. In real terms Hazard, Hulk and to a lesser extent Marin will end up costing Chelsea 3-4 times as much.

Shirt sales are a drop in the ocean.

For example: Some very rudimentary maths and understanding of shirt sales contracts here but just say Mr. Hazard is being paid 200,000 weekly pounds BEFORE tax, which seems likely. Shirts cost what, 40 quid roughly, so that 5,000 shirts a week to cover his wages. But then only a percentage of the actual shirt sale goes to the football club, say 10%. That's 4 pounds per shirt to Chelsea. That's 50,000 official shirts per week for the duration of Hazards contract to pay for his wages alone.

That's incorrect. Take Liverpool for example, Warrior are paying them a record 25 million per season for the rights to make the kits. Any profits from those kit sales then go straight to Warrior, Liverpool don't make any more money from the deal regardless of whether they sell more or less kits. They can make money from other non-Warrior branded clothing and merchandise, but the profits from the replica kit sales go straight to the manufacturer after they pay the initial sponsorship fee.

If those players you've mentioned are the difference between winning the title and coming 6th, then that's where their value is going to be found.

Sinclair would be a good move as would Joe Allen as a backup to Lucas in the holding mid position, he should cost around 5m. I'd prefer Sigurrdson over Adam to be honest. If we're playing a short-passing possession based game and a high-press defence then Adam really doesn't have the speed or the one-touch passing ability to fit in. Maybe as an option off the bench?

Henderson isn't going anywhere, his skill set is ideal for the sort of playing style that Rodgers will want to implement.

Torres for example, say he was signed on a five year contract at £50m. For the next five set of accounts that will show as a £10m loss on Chelseas books.

Hulk will be the same, say a five year contract at £40m will show an £8m loss for the next five sets of accounts. Hazard five years at £32m will show a £6.4m loss.

The time to spend to avoid FFP issues was pre July 2010 (I think). All amortised transfer costs and wages for contracts signed before then are excluded from FFP calculations.

I've not looked myself but apparently Chelsea will have no problems with FFP, even with the current spending.

Allen isnt good enough for Liverpool at all. Has one good season and all of a sudden he is worth 10 mill (you wouldnt get him for 5). Id prefer to spend the extra 5 and get Cheik Tiote instead. Someone who can actually slot straight into the first team

Dont think Gylfi is in any way comparable to Adam. Gylfi is essentially Jordan Hendersons carbon copy except he does the job a bit better atm. Itd be stupid to have both of them in the same squad. Hendersons skill set is ideal though hence why I think you will stick with him and not buy Gylfi/not need him. If you did buy him I do think itd be because Henderson is not trusted or needed.

The only reason they will have no problems is because of the sponsorship deals. When the current deal expires watch them have the worlds largest shirt sponsorship deal in the near future.

At worst IMO we'll fall just short of meeting the conditions but will be able to show we are heading in the right direction. I wouldnt expect to see us out of European competition any time soon.

If you take a loss of £193m
- add champions league revenue of £40m
- add commercial revenue of £40m plus (Etihad sponsorship plus more)
- subtract one off costs of £25m which we wrote off the value of certain players last season
- subtract wages of players to be sold or who are out of contract (Adebayor, Bridge, RSC etc (£15m)

We're down to £73m.

- Subtract money spent on items not subject to FFP calculations (academy, regeneration of local area/new development, spending on stadium). Not sure how much this is but we have spent £60m on the East Manchester regeneration since the takeover.
- subtract wages and amortised fees of those players signed before July 2010. Tevez for example would be £5m a year in amortised transfer fee and £10m a year in wages.

We're getting fairly close to allowable losses now.

- add amortised transfer fees and wages for last years signings (Aguero, Nasri, Clichy)
- add any profit on player sales ( Ade's transfer value was written off last season so rumours go, a £10m sale will be a £10m profit on the books. Tevez has had £15m of his £25m transfer fee amortised, so a £25m sale will show on our books as a £10m profit.
- add extra income/prize money through winning the league etc.

Not looking too bad for us really.
