Brisbane did amazingly well to grab aish and Taylor.
North very good with Dumont at 30.
Can understand freos drafting but definitely don't agree with it. Can't believe they passed on acres.
Collingwood nailed it with sharenberg but freeman is seriously overrated.
Pretty much a perfect draft for saints in terms of what we needed.

I still fondly remember when Essendon won the draft in 06.

Don't think a single player remains...

Very similar to Hawthorn's 05. Had 5 picks in the top 22. Only 1 remains.

Impossible to know how these players will turn out.

As always better to wait for proper hindsight.
Yeah, never understand how so many people know (or claim) to know so much about these kids. Who's going to see them in person or has time to peruse for so many junior players? At any rate, quite a few are on the money & one enters here with the aim of speculating.

In terms of the OP, I'm interested as to why he didn't ask "who lost"? If there's a winner, then there must be loser, correct?

Over to you BF...

i think you answered your question, it's all the people who claim to know a shitload about a whole bunch of kids from youtube highlights packages put together by the kids' mums

3. Ellis
6. Dowler
14. Birchall
18. Bailey
22. Muston

I actually (at the time) thought this draft was the beginning of a Hawk dynasty, and that Muston was going to go on and become a top 5 afl player.
I always remember reading a recruiters view that Dowler was the best player for his age he had seen.
Aaargh, what could have been.
The dynasty was ok, 2 flags from 3 attempts.

I actually really like what WC ended up with.

Sheed is exactly what we need; a ready made quality mid with foot skills and traffic awareness
Karpany I really like the look of and with the addition of Ellis and Yeo will give some quality run, carry and disposal on the outside
Barrass is a logical replacement for Glass only with better kicking at draft age
Main is the one I'm actually most excited about as a long term prospect. Has a lot of NDS about him in his vid, stands tall when kicking. Has plenty of stick, height, goal sense and could be a good future mid.

As for other clubs, think the saints nailed it with Acres sliding and Sydney got a bargain with Nav, Nak, oh what ever the big mans name is!!

Sheed :thumbsu: that is all.

All round i'm happy enough. Would have loved a matured aged midfielder in Cain or Lambert at 49 but they are both still availbale in the rookie draft.

What shocked me was how many teams were passing on picks altogether when young talent like Battersby, Tsitas, Templeton, Dwayne Wilson etc where still there

Cripps went at least 10 picks too early. Very surprised Carlton didn't take McCarthy.

As they say - time will tell! Didn't think we'd go Cripps based on perceived need for a KPF, but then after just watching a video of Cripps speak and explain how he focused on developing fast hands and good vision to compensate for being a small player earlier on in his career it got me thinking: this bloke might just be seen as a steal in retrospect a couple of years down the track. He's certainly put on a lot of height and weight in recent times and is now almost a "Freo-style tall-mid"; if he can improve his fitness (he did suffer a broken leg in 2012) then this bloke could even be a "poor man's taller and quicker version of Greg "Diesel" Williams"! Was hoping for Lennon, but Cripps might really be something - checkout his highlights package!

Basically a big inside mid designed to win clearances and distribute the ball to other players ( replacements for Judd's current role). Malthouse was apparently keen on the guy for months so I don't think its a reach if we actually rate him.

Yep, Sheed has no potential, and all of those WA boys Freo picked are spuds

Personally can't see any of Freo's WA recruits getting a game. Maybe I'm on my own though. :(

A tad devastating seeing Scharenberg available at 6. Personally I'm a massive fan of him and even though we have plenty of medium defenders, would've taken him in a heartbeat - I think he'll be a star....

I'm sure it's been covered elsewhere but who would you equate him to playing today? Medium defenders who are stars are rare. Other than mids who are turned into quarterback style defenders (Deledio, Hodge, Del Santo etc...).

I haven't seen his highlight reel so not doubting you. Just that he is known as a defender today and those others I have named were mids who played down back to set up play.

Update: just checked out his highlights package. This really hurts me to say this but the Pies have really got themselves a player. This kid is silk!! He's a step ahead of most other players out there. Interesting to see him develop over the next few years. Looks the goods from his highlights package.

Apeness will play 100+ games. Sandilands and Pav are almost done, there are no guarantees with Griffin's knee, Hannath played well when required but is still raw, Moller won't make it. Clarke is their only sure thing IMO.

He's also not West Australian.

Yep, 0 games for the WA kids. Apeness will play next year.

Curious to determine why Dumont got to 30 if he was rated a 15-20 prospect. I guess this is where needs come in to play perhaps?

You weren't trying to win the flag in the other years? ;)

Hey if you think that draft was bad, I remember expecting multiple AAs from:
1. Deledio
4. Tambling - was to be our Andrew McLeod, lightning fast line breaker
12. Meyer - another described as lightning quick with exquisite skills
16. Pattison - this guy would be our AA Ruck/CHF replacing Bradd Ottens for the next decade
20: Polo - After a 28 possession, 3 goal BOG debut, I was convinced we'd found the next James Hird.

I've learnt a lot since then.

Easy, 40 second YouTube videos.

Ah yes, where every Beau Dowler looks like Jason Dunstall. And every Richard Loundner is Dean Cox.

I think Melbourne and Collingwood are going to regret not taking Sheed. Salem may turn out ok but Sheed looks to be a boss. Freeman seems Lonieesque to me.

Aish's size and lack of contested ball winning ability are a problem. Aish's outside game lacks the grunt of a Kelly, Gaff or Whitfield leaving him reliant purely on positioning, subsequently being more liable to a tag.

Sheed has a better inside game and a better work rate around the ground that compensates for being not quite as pristine in his disposal (which is very good, but obviously lacking comparing to Aish).

I'm not advocating Sheed as being, but with Priddis having his limitations and 29 years of age plus Kerr retiring, a player who is flexible enough to work across the flanks and behind/forward of the ball was going to meet our needs more than an undersized, elite skilled player easily susceptible to a tag in Aish.

Put simply Sheed lacks Aish's X-Factor but is far better placed to make an impact in many positions for the Eagles.

lol. Grunt is not by any stretch, synonymous with Gaff.
