Am a long way away from it over here: Is the feeling that Buckley would walk of his own volition before the season is out?

Some think he will walk before the season's out. That could be the least damaging to the club, and would help maintain Bucks' reputation as a 'club first' operator (which some don't agree with anyway). I hope he walks. But I also want the club to go through due process for the next appointment, and not an Eddie song and dance scenario where we annoint a big name and hold a major celebration to announce it.

Yeah people focus too much on thinking 'Player A can't kick'.
Most of the time it's more the game plan that's the issue.

If players up the ground led into space better and all the players basically already know where they're going to kick the ball before they even take possession due to the game plan, it makes a players kicking look better. Think Hawthorn in their premiership years where their ball movement worked like clockwork...players would mark the ball and immediately turn and kick already knowing where a teammate was going to be up the field.

If you're unorganised and making things up as you go along and have to spear a pinpoint pass to a player then obviously some will miss and your kicking will look bad.

Iwould go the other way. While gameplans and how much time space and plan can effect kicking efficiency the biggest determinant is individual kicking skills. Put the ball in the hands of Josh Kelly compared to Adam Treloar, both great young mids, and there is a big difference in how the ball gets kicked.

The example you use also makes this case. The Hawks went out with a policy of only recruiting guys who could kick the ball well under the Clarkson years. It allowed them to play the type of footy Clarkson was planning. The difference in kicking skills between the two clubs was for mine the biggest reason Hawks have beaten us routinely since 2011

He can walk tommorrow or at the end of the season.. it's how it does it that matters most. There's no differential between the 2.

I feel no sympathy for him to be honest with you.

The worst thing we can do is do what Melbourne did.. with the Roos/Goodwin succession planning role. It would just look like we are mimicking em.. and it will give everyone the impression we're a club in turmoil.

Totally agree there.. it shouldn't be MM in a ferrari scenario. And it should be an interview process with the selection panel consisting of experts in different fields.

There's a couple that are in damage control themselves. Mcguire and Pert.

I will always say the real 'rat pack' is the inner circle. It always is.

The relationships within the organisation appear to be 'it's who you know'. It might take a few years to weed it all out.. but every employee of the Collingwood Football Club.. should be employed based on merit!

I t would be apt to say he has talked the talk now we get to see if he walks the walk. He has always put club 1st on the agenda. Asking for a one year extension. Talking about needing to make the finals to keep his job etc. he can't coach it seem but is a person of integrity is my guess. I don't think he will need to be pushed. He will walk.

This has been the worst 6 yrs of football i have seen us play. Dismantling a premiership side where there was talk of building a dynasty.. to suit one's self.. to cover up for ones deficiencies as a coach.. rebuilding it.. with no key positiion players.. and midfielders running around like headless chooks.

My respect for Buckley has definetely diminished ovee time.. i look at a great player of course.. but then i revert back to.. 'you destroyed this team'.

Was it a selfish act that he did accept the role.. did Buckley ever stop to think and say 'I'm not ready for the role'? I think he did! And that what upsets me the most.

Ao you're telling me that he thought he was ready for the role? I'm telling you 6 yrs later he's still reading through his coaching manual. I think he knew he was out of his depth as a 'senior coach' from the onset.. it was just too good of an opportunity for him to refuse.

Heater had brain fades? Mate.. Shawry was never the same under Buckley.. ever give thought that his behaviour was infact a cry for help?

Excellent post and spot on, that some people carry on about the "dismantling" of a great team by Bucks is crazy hillbilly stuff. Most of them fell of the perch very quickly, Jolly prostituted himself around offering to play for a can of coke and a hamburger a game and there was no takers, daisy was always injured and can't do jack, Heretier seemed more interested in feel good politically correct nonsense than playing footy and I could go on about many more. But for some crazy reason the anti Bucks people in their dumb irrational ways want to put crap on our greatest ever player. Shame on you that are in that camp

I have changed my mind on Buckley (not for the first time). There doesn't look to be a disconnect between the players and coach, so I think Bucks should be given the rest of the year. Use this time to gradually introduce young players and to develop a more attacking game style. The club can conduct a full review of the footy department at the end of the season.

To criticize supporters for having these views is nonsensical to begin with.. so your argument falls on deaf ears.

Lumumba was always like that.. and i loved him for it.

I criticise supporters that are personal in their criticism of Bucks, I criticise supporters that want us to lose so that they can feel good about putting their venom on Bucks. I don't say Buckley shouldn't be criticised but the hate I will never get

That doesn't explain our below average goal kicking. Can't pin that on the game plan. Improve that and we're atleast 2 wins better off if not more.

He'll get the rest of the year no matter what , then that's it it's all over.
They're not making finals , and I'm certain Bucks' is a man of his word .
I just hope a few go with him in the coaching/footy department.

Gimp, Buckley was ****ed from the moment Mick spoke about 'his' boys on the dais after the 2010 GF. What has followed is a situation caused by many other factors rather than just whether one man can coach or not. What has been lost in all of this and not mentioned very often is the fact that that the football department made a decision on the list after the 2012 season.
Maxwell stating that some players just couldn't let go of Mick has received scant attention. The players in question have a fair role in the 'dismantling' but hey, they are premiership players so they are untouchable.
No, I'm not giving Buckley and co a discount on who they brought in, that's on their heads.

Buckley has given his all. And some things are good - contested possession being one. I loved the effort and desperation yesterday. Normally I'd be pleased the team was having a dip and be somewhat happy with the "honourable loss".

But sadly for Buckley, he's had near 6 years and the time for patience is gone. Those credits have been used up. If this was 2 or 3 years ago, I could have (and did) cut slack. Now I have to judge on big picture rather than effort and possibility. The big picture is 2:6 and a downward trajectory over 6 seasons. Maybe we're about to turn the corner based on yesterday's performance. Maybe. But we've all seen this movie before and I'm over it. We need to try something new.
