Roast The AFL aren't taking concussion and head trauma seriously enough. Lalor/Ginbey incident.

How many weeks should Ginbey get?

Ok Dr Google. Which type of break/fracture was it?

  • Simple (Closed) Fracture – The bone breaks but does not pierce the skin.
  • Compound (Open) Fracture – The bone breaks and punctures through the skin, increasing infection risk.
  • Hairline (Stress) Fracture – A small, thin crack in the bone, often caused by repetitive stress rather than trauma.
  • Greenstick Fracture – The bone bends and cracks but does not fully break, common in children.
  • Comminuted Fracture – The bone shatters into multiple pieces, requiring more complex treatment.
  • Displaced vs. Non-Displaced – In a displaced fracture, the bone pieces have moved out of alignment, often requiring surgery. A non-displaced fracture means the bone remains aligned.
So you're spending all your energy playing down the severity of the multiple injuries?

You over-reaction is funny to me, the injury is not.

The meltdown is worth it alone though! It’s almost like every club cops one (usually multiple) injuries like this every year

It will be hilarious coming back to this thread when a Tigers player does something that causes a head injury.

The desperate backflipping and evasion and yeah-but-no-but-ing will be something to behold.

They already have with Hopper apparently being all sweet lol

One obvious one I can think of was when Broad tackled Parnell causing a concussion. As far as I recall Richmond supporters were overwhelmingly accepting of the suspension Broad received(3 weeks from memory.)

Another one was the Mansell suspension for his bump on Aish. Tiger supporters were split, I was in the camp of this not being a suspension due to debatable factors which were well documented at the time.

It is almost like we are collectively capable of working out which ones are debatable and which ones are not.

Hopper caused a head injury now?

It was an injury that’s all you need according to you blokes.

Neither are worth a suspension eventually you’ll get there the rest of us are there.

Haha yeah, Richmond supporters here are known for their balanced, measured and unbiased assessment of all football matters. Never a contradiction or logical reach in sight.

That same poster posts essays whenever someone suggests Dustin Martin may not be the greatest player of all time.

Concussion is never minor. There is a high risk of CTE in the future.

And yet there is a mountain of information regarding mild v severe concussion.

Interesting reading. You should try it sometime.

You are carrying on like his jaw is wired and he is eating through a straw and it was a car crash level concussion. It wasnt.

Your melodramatic style and lack of common sense is why the vast majority dont agree and neither did the AFL and MRP.

If the game was changed to the extent you and your fury friends are suggesting we wouldnt have a game to watch or play. It would be like watching a running style net ball on a big field

Then what cloud would you have to shout at?

AFL is a combative collision sport. Players know it and are paid very well to play the game they love.

If you cant handle accidents and collision injuries maybe its not the sport for you.;)

Deliberately push?

So with malicious intent?

Head first?

A deliberate push in the back, so that his head will go in first (because that's what will happen with a push in the back) into a contest. So it raises the likelihood of head contact at speed. Therefore, it is a dangerous action.

Never said anything about malicious intent.

My only point is that pushing players into contests in a way that their head is going to lead will lead to some head injuries. So if the AFL is serious about reducing head injuries then they should try to eliminate deliberate pushes in the back where the player will go head first into another player. They see that as too hard but create vague fuzzy rules to change how the game is played. So I am attacking the AFL if anyone.

This is spot on. The main problem with what Ginbey did is the force with which he pushed, causing Lalor to go into the Eagles player head first. I watched some footy yesterday, and the majority of pushes in marking contests involve subtly shunting a player forward with your chest to get them in the position you want. Pushes involving the hands normally only carry enough force to stop the player coming backwards into the area the ball will drop(perfectly legal.) The only push I saw with enough force to make the player lurch forward head first was where there were no other players anywhere near the contest.

So people arguing pushes happen all the time are way beside the point. Pushes like this Ginbey edition rarely occur in marking contests.

And also if an Eagles player suffers a head injury (which hopefully isn't the case).

We've had 3 retire in the past 5 years due to concussion, Venables had his career ended in season 3 by a Melbourne player flying for a mark.

Nobody cried that the Melbourne player should've been suspended, even though he'd have seen Venables coming and opted to fly.

Shit happens.

You've been around BF long enough, nearly as long as me, to know that club allegiances strongly determine views on incidents such as this.

For instance, I have no doubt at all what the views of Richmond and WCE supporters would be in relation to this incident if the players' roles were reversed.
